LCD tips 2009

Hi,
last year I was going to buy LCD and people http://www.crossfire.nu/?x=journal&mode=item&id=66936 told me that best for gaming and multimedia is ASUS VW222u. I sticked with my 17" Hyunday ImageQuest but I must leave it at home so another LCD journal from me. Time has changed so what do you think?

My favourite is stil ASUS VW222u 167 Euro, what about some new Samsung or Illyama? Thx for tips and experiences :)

Samsung Syncmaster 226BW or Samsung SyncMaster 2253BW has good reviews too but its hard to buy them, most czech eShops dont have them :( Maybe some new models?

i have the asus for some time now and i must say it's like new and never had any problems with it in games or movies etc.i would say it's a good choice and not that expansive oO
thx for sharing, I will take that :)
Parent
I got samsung 2233rz. ET is playable with that and finally I got rid of my big crt :/
Et is playable with a 75hx monitor until you play on a CRT for a while :)
Parent
not for me :(
Parent
if you want 22inch, go for Dell 2209WA just read some reviews, everyone praising this screen, and it has E-IPS panel and with that price not getting IPS panel screen is a joke.
I am not familiar with types of LCD screens, IPS is something better?
Parent
HP w2408h :)
samsung 2233 is the best TFT you can buy atm with 120hz displayrefresh and an average outputlag of around 3-4 miliseconds compared to 16ms on default TFT's.

its no CRT, but its damn close to it.
16.67 ms is just the time interval between each fram at 60hz not the actual input lag. Unless you are talking about those shitty ancient LCDs.

Quotecompared to 16ms on default TFT's.

I was referring to this part of your comment.
Parent
any tips how I can make the widescreen resemble a normal crt :d ?
Parent
Attach a mini-fridge to the back of it.
Parent
Its this? http://www.alfacomp.cz/php/product.php?eid=105145006000000KYO&Search=samsung%202233&SearchType=1 looks good, same prize as ASUS VW222u. Its written 5ms but I saw many articles that this numbers are very biased. Do you have it?
Parent
5ms doesn't matter. 120hz does
Parent
thank you so this samsung 2233 is better than asus vw222u right?
Parent
that's right
Parent
Thx, but I cant find this 120MHZ in specification?
Parent
My mistake, but finally I have found one small problem - its 470Euro for 2233RZ thats 120Hz one and 2233BW is what I was talikng about damm.
Parent
yea they are pretty expensive :p
Parent
sadfully 1680 x 1050 :(
Parent
Just play 4:3 with black borders and use the 16:10 for movies?
Parent
I didn't mean that, I meant that 1680x1050 is kinda shitty for developing. I've been using 1920x1200 on a 24inch for a while now and it's so much nicer to have all kinds of panels (nav, debug, console etc) open at all times. With 1680x1050 you just miss that bit of extra space.

I don't game on the tft though. Never could get used to it, so i have two monitors. Vision master Pro 454 for gaming and iiyama prolite e2403ws for developing.
Parent
Have to second that as the IDE usually takes up most of the space, it's nice to keep as much coding space as possible =).
Parent
yup. Eclipse with nav, debug, console, outline etc open (which is nice when coding) will take up quite some space. On a 1920x1200 screen it's doable however :) on a 1680x1050 you just don't have enough space to keep all the things open and still be able to see enough code, so you have to keep switching between maximizing and minimizing your code view, which sucks :D
Parent
btw, how do u make black borders in ET?

I might try it
Parent
Well if there is a 4:3 aspect ratio as a feature in the monitor itself it's easiest. However you can do it through nVidia drivers as well.
Parent
ok, gotta give it a try
Parent
Some cards have trouble with this feature.

One solution I used on my LG monitor was this.
Parent
VX2268WM is doing better. Can't notice any input lag + the 120Hz is actually more clear (no color blur) than on a CRT screen. Have to get used to the widescreen though. The screen also supports 110Hz and 100Hz on native reso.
Parent
again.. 1680x1050 :(
Parent
Wait for the Asus VG242H
Parent
Do you have some tip for good LCD about 170 Euro with good parameters?
Parent
why do you dislike 16:10 16:9 resolutions? it just needs some time to get used to or am i missing something?
Parent
read above, it's about more space on screen when developing ;)
Parent
QuoteVX2268WM is doing better. Can't notice any input lag + the 120Hz is actually more clear than on a CRT screen

Surely this is impossible due to the refresh type.
Parent
CRT loses sharpness quite fast and suffers from colour blur. I never said there wasn't any input lag, I just said it is unnoticeable.
Parent
Regular TN - Panels have 6-bit colour which use dithering in order to try and replicate 24-bit through dithering. CRTs are so much better for colour reproduction.
Parent
Where did I deny that? It's just easier to track models, because they appear better in fast motion. I guess it's also just a combination with the sharpness.

Any good designer works on a CRT because of the way better colours. I know that =P.
Parent
I find good CRTs to be sharper than good TFTs.
Parent
I got a Samsung P2270 (1920*1080) atm but my graphic card ain't good enough to run that resolution ^^ so tuesday I'm gonna buy a new card (100€) so I can use this screen decently :)
buy gx260 @ 170 € its a beast of a video card and worth every penny you put into it. best performance / euro you can get atm.
Parent
I'm gonna order a new pc next week (tones), I'm just gonna buy a new graphics card for my old pc (wich will still be used by my parents and my brother).. and my old pc only supports AGP-cards.. It's the Radeon HD 3850 512MB AGP card (one of the best agp cards that are still on the market).. any news yet on the upcomping 5xxx series? should I wait on that or will they be overpriced during the first months and I'm better off buying a 4890?
