ROCCAT Kone

Does anybody have this mouse? Is really as good as they say? How much inputs (Hz) it can handle STABLE? Is it worth it to buy it? Ty :*

EDIT : Once more, I didnt ask WHAT to buy, but if you have any experience with this one.

just buy mx518 :P
It is too expensive, well it looks cool but i prefer tobuy MX518 or DeathAdder insted of it.
it sucks.. get mx518
FOR EVERYBODY.. I HAVE MX518 AND I DISLIKE IT.
ty 4 bro. now I will give one advise to you. learn how to read

i actually lol'd!
izitroll
Parent
vintage copperhead
get razer diamondback 3g x)
i have it too
its nice, but too... unstable?
and the drivers are fucking annoying, /quit them
Parent
its nice but i pref the g9 so gave it to my brother.
what was better on G9 than on this one?
Parent
nothing mate its a realy nice mouse just pref the g9's shape seems to fit my hand better ;) ... the kones drivers are nice tracking is good cant fault the mouse its very nice..
Parent
well, and mx518 shape fits you?
Parent
buy Deathadder
Kone is rly shit
-scroll breaks in a few weeks
-sensor is not as bad as 1st gen laser mice have, but still it sucks in comparison with any optical mouse
-800 dpi minimum
-costs much
Parent
well, I know you are such pro about this (NO SARCASM) so could you pls explain me why laser sux compared to optic?
Parent
well if you're high sens player it might be ok for you
Most laser mice(Kone aswell) have much lower max speed cap than optical ones which results in negative acceleration and cursor jumps. So if you have more than than 15-20cm/360 degrees ingame it will affect your aim a lot. Some of them have other problems with sensor(for example laser razer ones with the cursor jittering). However few new generation laser mice like Logitech g9x or steelseries Xai are pretty promising(havent tried myself yet) even better than the optical mice. Their max speed cap is pretty unreachable.
Parent
so you are expecting, that in future (or already now on that new generation) laser mice will be better?
and one more question..is there mouse out there, which could really handle high input rates?
Parent
g9x is already released and g500 and steelseries Xai should be on market this month. All 3 have the kicking ass new avago 9500 sensor.
Xai is prolly the most promising mouse atm with all it's features and shape.
Razer are still using the philips twin-eye doppler shit sensor.

and what do you mean by "high input rates"?
Parent
well,my terminology isnt good (engrish)
I meant.. for example my MX518 can handle 250Hz "not so sure" stable. Is there any which can handle 1000 stable? or atleast 500 pretty sure? cuz this is imo significant on mouse, isnt it?
Parent
WMO, IE1.1, IE3.0 and DA can all work @ stable 1000Hz.
MX518 can go up to 500Hz stable.
Parent
well,my mx518 can even barely reach 500 :D
what is WMO? windows.. ?
Parent
WMO = Wheel Mouse Optical
If your MX518 can't reach 500Hz, try a different USB port it might solve the issue.
If it doesn't work, then it probably means your CPU is shit.
Parent
My CPU is shit,I know that even without this "experiment" :D
WMO is name of any mouse?
Parent
Yes I just told you.
WMO = Wheel Mouse Optical

Parent
looks like granny among mice
Parent
You don't know how accurate this mouse really is.
@ 1000Hz, it tracks as good as a DeathAdder.
Parent
I didnt say I dont trust you. tbh my old buissiness mouse buyed for 5 euro was much better than this mx518 o_O (not only my opinion)
Parent
most new mice(all laser + deathadder, salmosa + steelseries ikari) can handle stable 1000hz. While all optical mice can handle stable 500hz for sure(except for few ones with 12-bit datapath like razer diamondback or logitech mx510. btw your mx518 should have handled 500 perfectly).
Parent
thanks.. and.. I guess my mx518 is broken then, cant reach these 500 (may it be because of I dont use mousepad, just wooden table?)
anyway, one more question.. is there any way to "force" them to one value? I mean.. now when I try, its like 250 +- 20.. is there way to make them 250 only (or just lesser aberrance)?
Parent
those measuring utilities show it pretty much approximately, based on data they get from the mouse. So if you move the mouse slowly - it won't change coordinates every hz. So you got to move the mouse constantly in a circle with a very high speed so the mouse will send the distance every 1/500sec or w/e you've set it to.
+/- 50 is okay due to this method aswell. Just don't use the rate when for example instead of 1000 which you've set it to it shows 800 max or smth. Same for 500hz - if it caps at 450max - don't use it.
Parent
so basically it doesnt even matter that there are big differences between these values, even while playing?
and why shouldnt I use it when it cant reach it?
Parent
nah, that rate +/- 20 dispersion doesn't matter at all.

the fact that the mouse doesn't reach the target rate means that it cant handle it and skips some of those polls which causes some unstability(though it's not very noticiable for people). And since that usually happens when you try 1000hz, the 1ms difference from 500hz doesn't matter much so it's better to switch to it being stable :p
Parent
yeah, these 20+- might be ok.. but differences when moving fast / moving slow are much bigger, its what I wanted to "force" ;)
anyway thank you very much for your help, you are real HW guru ;)
Parent
oh, no need to force, it's still polled at high rate but since the coordinates don't change every poll the utility shows less than it's really set to.
Parent
oh,I've lived in lie for pretty long time :D
I thought it is fluctuating so much..
Parent
:D
nah it's constant like fuck
Parent
okokok :)
so, once more, thank you :)

I bought roccat kone not long after it was avaible @ polish shops. From technical point of view, it's not bad. I'm comparing it mostly to my logitech G5 which I was using before and am using currently. So, the sensor is way better. It probably isn't better than mx518 optical one, but it's still way better than G5. Roccat kone is working almost without any problem on my icemat (with my G5 it's not as good). Though I have the super-uber option of surface detection (w/e it's called) turned off, since it's only messing up. The configuration/switching profiles etc are perfect, saved in mouse memory and you can use every button however you like (which is quite important to me since I got used to +/- dpi buttons in G5 as spawntimer/knife).

However, there are two drawbacks. After two weeks my scroll fucked up. It looks like it's too hard to push (so one won't accidentally push it while tilting the scroll - that's good since I'd selfkill while changing weapons, but...) so eventually the mechanism in it can break. Luckily, they exchanged me to a brand new one (even the box was closed again:p).

Secondly, I didn't really like the shape for gaming. It's quite comfy and ok, but the mouse feels a bit too big, G5 for example isn't the smallest one anyway, but it's somehow better. I don't know whether I just couldn't used to it or it's the mouse, but eventually I am using G5 at home and brought my roccat to work along with my razer destructor (yeah, it's too shitty to use it @ home!)...
thank you very much for your long review.
so generally sensor is better but ergonomy doesnt fit you?
well, about that mouse-wheel.. imo thats fail because of you can push it to left/right too.. I dont like this idea.
so which one would you recommend me then?
and yeah.. did you try on which values these inputs are stable?
Parent
Well, kone has better sensor and drivers and it's maybe even more comfy for everyday use, but for gaming I found g5 easier to aim with shape-wise. It was quite subtle difference and it could be caused by getting used to g5 (few years already of using g5 - my 3rd one now).

As for the settings, in roccat's driver I prolly haven't even changed anything, just made sure TCU (Tracking Control Unit) is disabled. However, icemat is a really specific mousepad so TCU could work on other mousepads and maybe even help, so just try it yourself if you'll have it ;)
Parent
Well, in the evening I was almost sure I will buy it, but now I am almost sure I will not buy it :)
Though I would like to check it, I dont have so much money to "just try" ;)
thank you once more btw :)

Rly nice mouse :) Never had probs with it!
so you would recommend me this mouse? can it handle 500 Hz stable?
Parent
I use 1000 Hz :) Without any probs! And well yeah if you like the Logitech G5 this is the perfect mouse!
Parent
well, I know it can handle 1000hz, but is it stable? or is it like between e.g 700-1000 ?
Parent
It's stable for me.
Parent
i have it here.. sealed and new .. i've sent it back to the store where i bought it, coz roccat said my mouse had a hardware defect (it had blackouts on a blue steelpad 5l).

i went back to my g5 refresh. gonna sell this roccat kone .. :(

the technology is fuckin great, but the realization isn't
