Windows 7 is better than XP at almost everything. Benchmarks can comprove the same. Drivers ain't optimized yet for windows 7, but still.. test at some really old pc and you will see it works better that xp (if you have 1+ gb ram )

How about 768MB RAM? Should I test it or leave xp. It's a laptop so I won't upgrade it (better buy new one :P)

It doesn't make a shoddy PC go faster, it's not magic.

With a modern PC, Windows 7 IS faster than XP. Drivers have matured, since they are nearly identical to the ones used in Vista. Driver architecture hasn't changed.

For old laptop? Best to stick with XP SP3.

Like I thought. I'll install 7@PC for my sister maybe :P

You can give it a try atleast :P take your own conclusions.... a tweaked 7 might work as good or better than xp... test and share the conclusions :)

Please don't spread bullshit. Pentium4 3.06GHz and 1GB ram here. Random timedemo:
WinXP: 110fps
Win7: 80fps

And that's after I turned off some services in Windows 7 which had a little impact on the result. Windows 7 is Vista with some tweaks + like 10x better marketing.

Like i said you must be using some drivers which ain't optimized yet, or using anti aliasing etc... try to run using exactly the same environment. 1gb isn't much for windows 7
Parent
I'm using latest nvidia drivers. What makes you even think that it would run better than XP? The only benchmarks that say win7 runs faster than winXP in games are microsoft ones.

And please realize that Windows 7 = Windows Vista + some nice tweaks + 10x amount spent on marketing. Nothing new here...

well here it goes .. it's a week now I got no problems at all ! but SOMETIMES in SOME servers you can get kicked again, but it's weird in private servers I don't have any problems , but I got problems with xfire :D it's so fcking weird when I open xfire my internet shutdowns XD

anyway just install XP too , and reboot to it =) getting used to it now.. 10 sec waiting anyway
hope I helped , hf
I don't use xfire :D I just need to know it works fine with ET... been using windows 7 at laptop since 1st betas and i'm happy with it, but never tested et(playing)

yea it's a great windows , perfect speed no problems for me and I use touchscreen monitor and it supports 101% so it's awesome

but yea with ET it's not 100% good yet , but when you CAN play it's pretty good.
I don't have problems with other games tho , Cod5 , crysis , UT3 , etc..
Parent
i got no problems

set the pb.exe´s to compatible mode (vista sp2) and it should work fine

and ye its fucking awesome !
do u got a solution for the accelfix?feels really weird for me compared to xp
Parent
i dont have any accel

Isnt working for me. API kicks all the time. Win7 is nice though.
i use Windows 7 ultimate x64 since 2 week and he is really good, compared to XP it is much more powerful and even without carrying out as an administrator + mode of compatibility for Windows XP SP2 i have any kick punkbuster.
I had no trouble with the polling rate the rate changers for vista also work for win 7.

The only problem i had was the pb issue. But if you just search on crossfire for like 2 minutes you find the solution for that problem too.
No trouble with anything here. Win 7 <3
i play et without probs, only got kicked for api on some pubs. but i just noticed that 64bit vers doesnt use 4gbs of ram, just 3.25, like on x32. dunno why...maybe somebody knows?
lol i just noticed:

installed ram: 4,00GB , usale: 3gb oO
Parent
maybe your gfx card uses the ram?
Parent
or emulation x86 software
Parent
explain plz

i got original win7 prof x64
Parent
Win Vista/7 version x64 support also x86 application so they have to fake the ram :) That systems can use 4+ GB ram but they have to emulate 32bit witch is not support that size of memory.

Windows 7 runs ET fine for me no problems seems like fps is abit more stable also. Only reason Im still using XP now is because Razer haven't released drivers for the copperhead yet and won't be until end of this month.
