YES WE CAN!
The way I'm seeing this we dont have to wait for a company to create the game we like!
Read beggin's column and the idea's people have, let crossfire know if you're willing to work on something like this! Lets get something going!

Edit: more than half of this community wont even pay for a bnc or contribute towards a game server....
And a gameserver is like 6 euro's a month, ofcourse I'm not going to send the clanleader my 1 euro of contribution each month. He can easily pay for it himself and if he cant he's either 12 or he should get a fucking job.
A completely renewed ET would get my monthly 10 euro's though.
Actually we could make our own game right?
The things we have and need to develop our new and improved ET.
* Xreal
* AntiPro
* ETTV
* Coders
* Mappers
* Visual Artists (I guess we need new textures)
* A project manager
* A PLAN!
XreaL will be a non-commercial multiplayer only first person shooter based on a heavily modified Quake 3 Arena engine (id Tech 3). The aim is to push the rendering technology until it can be compared with current commercial titles and then to produce a playable Total Conversion.
THATS EXACTLY WHAT WE NEED!
Foxdie and his team would be able to completely integrate their anticheat tool into the engine since they have full acces to it. Graphics and performance could be greatly improved because the engine allows you to use newer techniques. Perhaps we could even create something like the quakelive system to make the game more friendly to newcomers.
Make it work with quadcore processors! INTEL
Only grant YCN hosting rights and use the profit for Crossfire LAN prize purse! (I assume we have to keep this non-profit because we use a freeware engine?)
The plan!
1. Find someone to lead this project
2. Create a skilled and motivated team of coders, mappers and graphical artists
3. Get in contact with someone of the Xreal engine, explain the situation we are in, the plan we have and ask for support
4. Start working on textures and implement Antipro into the Xreal engine
5. Make the Xreal engine suitable for ET (do we need the ET source idtech3 source for this?)
6. Port the current competition maps with the renewed textures to the game
7. Make the game ready for betatesting!
This could be the start of a new game and I would love to see some people getting together and have a chat about this! TosspoT (or some other respected person with knowledge and 'power'), mappers, modders and coders unite!
(Might have skipped a phase or 2 but keep in mind I do not have any knowledge about making games)
