Mangler in studio!
Installation also is as easy as:
1. svn co http://svn.mangler.org/mangler/
2. cd mangler/trunk
3. ./configure
4. make
5. sudo make install
And as in my Ubuntu 9.10 case had to do one more step:
6. sudo ldconfig
Before installing you should check for libspeex, libgsm gtkmm and libpulse devel packages!
And that's it - you've got a working Ventrilo client with no need to emulate the windows version. HA!

I shall test this later, thanks for sharing.
shame on ventrilo devteam!
can you make a tutorial out of this?
edit what's your reason to stay with 8.04 btw?
I'm too lazy to reconfigure all this shit again (especially 120hz with ati cards)
vent 3.0+ or usable with 2.1 too?
i guess pure alsa can be used instead of pulseaudio?
