Laptop (2)

Ahoi there, we had a journal the other month on a new lappy - the grant finally came through! (woot!_!_!_!)

What say the people of Crossfire to this?

I think he probably means you should be getting at least a core 2 duo which he is totally correct about, i will hunt around now for an alternative in your price bracket.
Parent
Depends on what you need it for...
Just m$ word then whatever I want to do - if I don't spend the full £400 I lose the rest ^^ so the best system I can get for that cash...

Razzah - done and done :p this be my reward!
Parent
Well, CPU is shit (for gaming and graphic works) and GPU is shit as well (for gaming).

In case you don't need that, Dell is quite nice. Using one myself.
Parent
Shit for the price or just shit?
Parent
Shit for anything that needs power (gaming, decoding, unziping, graphic programs).

Price should be ok.
Parent
You don't really buy a laptop to game right?
Parent
laptops and gaming = fail, i have had all sorts of power house gaming laptops and they all fail compared to a pc
Parent
Yeh I tried it with anything possible (connecting monitor and shit to it), it's just on the same. I just use my laptop to browse internet, do my schoolwork and watch the occasional film on it (although I mostly stream that to the plasma downstairs).

When I was in the army, I wanted to play some singleplayer games in the evening. That's why I looked for something that can handle games as well. Paid around 900€ back then. Intel Core2Duo (2x2Ghz), GeForce 8600M GT and 2 GB was enough for me. I know that PC's are almost always cheaper and got more power. But that's not the point. In case he wants to play some games from time to time he needs better hardware than the mentioned one, thats all.
Parent
You can't really play games on a laptop. Unless you're talking about games like FM etc.. And you can still play these games on that laptop.
Parent
I could even play Crysis on that laptop and it ran better than Wolfenstein MP on my home PC ;D Though, of course its more fun on a real PC.
Parent
I had some bad experiences with Dell, but that could be just unlucky.
I bought an asus couple days ago, it's a great computer, but it's pricy offcourse.
Nellie honestly if you can find some extra funding possibly of your own i really would go for a higher spec than that, take for example the studio 15 and upgrade to the Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T6600 processor and you will have a far far superior laptop, but that will cost you £600 which i dont know if you can afford. I would strongly recommend you try and find some extra funding though otherwise that laptop will not be that great for you. Feel free to pm me and i will help you choose.
That's the one I'm getting in 3 days ;o)
Parent
Heh increasing my budget by 50% isn't really an option!:) Laptops have to be the most frustrating thing I've searched for - so many options out there 'n so many differing opinions.

Check list to date is:

Avoid acer
9 cell battery not 6
Intel cpu (avoid AMD)

Takes some major cramming to research the various components ^^
Parent
Ok let me clarify that, no need to avoid acer, Intel Core 2 Duo (watch out for others that say celeron dual core) 6 cell is also fine unless you need a very long battery life.
Parent
Hmm since Acer is ok what say we to this? http://www.ebuyer.com/product/168884 ticks the Core 2 Duo T6400 not 6600?

Acer Aspire 5735 Laptop, Intel Core 2 Duo T6400, 2.0GHz, 4GB RAM, 250GB HDD, 15.6" WXGA, DVD±RW, GMA 4500MHD, Webcam, Vista Home Premium

£420
Parent
Thats a good buy i did look on dabs.com for something like that but couldn't match the price, thats a decent price and decent spec, i mean it is a budget machine but so is that dell, they are ultimately as reliable as each other and good enough for public consumers.
Parent
Excellent - that's been accepted by two internet gurus so that'll be the one for me :O)
Parent
Without the upgrade do you think the T4300 is decent enough?

Edit: wait that's £500
Parent
Not when you customise the CPU its £600
Parent
Getting the studio 15 in 3 days ;o
Save money and buy a decent laptop; MacBook (Pro/Air) or an Asus/Samsung or so, damn those cheap notebooks really :X.
It’s very much given this pot of cash to buy one so looking to get the best possible for the cash on offer. Had they not given me this I wouldn’t be buying a lappy ^^ my cash is going on other things!:O)

And MacBook Pro starts @ £900 ffs :v
