Where would you go?

Where would you go if you could study abroad for 6 months? To which city and why? Where would you definitely NOT go?

My first thought was Australia but my school doesn't have any contracts there, but New Zealand looks interesting as well :)

Parent
Canada -> Vancouver.. most definitely.
why most definitely?
Parent
Canada has been voted the nr 1 country to live in quite a few times and within Canada itself, Vancouver has taken the crown of "city to live in" for years and years.

Google up some images of Vancouver and it's surroundings. It's amazing out there.

As for Canada and your questions wether it's the "wannabe US". Nah, you can't compare Canada to the US. They have some similarities in life-style but when it comes to the people itself there is quite some differences. I've lived in Canada for half a year and it was great.
Parent
Well people from the USA are generally nice and helpfull.
Parent
I just said there are quite some differences. I never said that Americans are better or worse than Canadians. They are just different. Not in a good or bad way.
Parent
I'd go w/ singapore, usa or seoul
definatly new zealand
Countries I left out because they're shit: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Norway, Poland, Sweden, UK

WTF??!?!?!
I would also consider how good the partner institute is because a badly organised one could spoil your stay completely. Ask some students who have already done their exchange about their experiences with a certain location and see if it's something for you though at my school Canada and US seem to be pretty save bets.
Also take in consideration how many spots are available for a certain location if they only have 1 or 2 and you are not an A grade student I wouldn't expect too much if you do decide to apply. Hopefully I can start ranking for my study abroad somewhere in February but I only just started looking at locations last week.
Yep Yep obviously, I know enough about the uni's and experiences with them. But atm I'm looking more into the countries/places to see what they have to offer ! It's hard to decide why you would/wouldnt want to go anywhere you've never beem and so can;t really have a proper opinion about it
Parent
Seeing as I have family in Australia I would like to go there but they only have one location near Brisbane and 2 spots :P
Parent
Good way to keep you motivated then ;D

Czech Republic: Prague -> Prague is cool but dunno about czech - id like to live there
Canada: London, Kelowna, Calgary, Vancouver, Kingston, Waterloo -> I really don't know what to think of Canada.. wannabe USA ? - canada is great but too far away imo
Japan: Osaka -> weirdo's - lold:D try that out, would like to read your experience youve made there
Mexico: Monterrey, Ensenada, Mexicali,Tijuana - dunno
New Zealand:Auckland - dunno
Singapore: Singapore - dunno
South Korea: Seoul - lold x)
Turkey: Eskisehir, Istanbul - no³ too many kurds imo :D
USA: Grand Rapids (MI), San Marcos (TX), Oakdale (NY) - would also be an awesome experience i guess
russia, leningrad! :D gogo
or germany, hamburg :)
dublin would be awesome!

need a suggestion on where to go in case that i 'have to' go to russia for 1 term... st. petersburg?
i've been 2 new zealand and it's fucking breathtaking so beautiful... :) never been to canada but that must be really nice aswell...

i'm having the same problem i wanna go abroad for 6 months aswell next year, but dunno where to go. What kind of study ur doing btw??

e: USA can be nice aswell but i only liked New York rest is kinda dull :D
Saying USA is dull means you haven't been to Yosemite! :(

NZ is great, went over there for a trip once and loved it, reminds me of my Wales home!
Parent
Lots of sheep right?
Parent
Was quite a few there! But general landscape, green valleys, waterfalls, rain etc :p
Parent
nah but where i been it wasn't so special and i've been around with a camper... just hills and like plains. :D not like i've been all over or anything :p
Parent
what would you say are the highlights of new zealand.. well let's call it the thing you recommend it to see/do :) The countryside? The cities aswell? How's the culture and people?

Studying for bachelor of international logistics
Parent
hmmm i dunno all the names anymore but the nature is stunning :) i remember going to some park called fjordland which was really nice :)
Parent
Drove through fjordland, went on an overnight cruise in milford sound, kayaking around the fjord until it gets dark then coming back on board to a few drinks and a meal <3
Parent
nice did you like it as much as i did?? :)
Parent
I'll be looking at going back some time in the next few years when I head back to Australia. I've only travelled the south island :'(
Really enjoyed it out there and done 3 bungy jumps :D
Parent
yeah me too.. nice photo's btw. U photograph for a living?? :D
Parent
In a way yeah. Don't earn enough to class myself as a professional though : (
Got an exhibition coming up in December too so hoping to sell a few =D
Parent
That's not really funny today.
Expected response from an expected nation.
Parent
its Japan for me
i strongly urge you not to go to tijuana. lots of gangs and that place is a terrible place to live.
if you wanna go to usa, i suggest oakdale
- definately not japan/korea: almost no one speaks english, you cant communicate much outside of uni (difficult to rly integrate)+ too overcrowded + cities all look the same, u get bored after 2 weeks

- not czech rp: go for a holiday or smthg to there not to study

- not istanbul: have been there twice but the going-out-area is just awful: small, mostly empty + expensive + boring; nice for city trip but that's it
=> the benefit is though that you can visit lots of cities/countries closeby & very cheap

- would maybe pick mexico if its close to a beach otherwise definately no

- singapore is nice to visit, clean & modern city but not that much to go out + probably bored after 3 weeks, holiday only

=> either new zeland, usa or canada; out of the choices vancouver looks great and auckland too; find some place where you can travel to some nearby places (so not texas or the remote canadian locations except if you like nature + small city but not that much to do)

Check some pics of the uni & city & check what you can do in the region. If you like combination city/nature/going out pick Auckland or Vancouver
listen to him imo

and pick up the one that ull have less chances to visit in the future
Parent
you should visit a nice country like Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Norway, Poland, Sweden, UK ,Chile, Italy, Portugal, Spain

instead of those shitcountries :o
Hey i wanna go to mexico 1ns , ive been in brasil , but didnt see the sea's as i wanted to see them
South Korea: Seoul

Touching SlayerS BoxeR
NZ or turkey.
Japan ofc
I've also got the option to have an internship abroad for 6 months next year.
Hope I could go to LA. Love the american culture for some weirdass reason and think people are nice. Also LA or santa monica is a beautifull city to live in.

My sister is studying in the university of Washington (it's actually in seattle) and she's having a good time afaik.
youre a fucking moron if you dont want visit Poland... but i guess it would be hard for such a pussy to live in my country
poland should be terminated.(nolifeking)

visit iceland joof ,its the best :O
Parent
Clean your drinking water and I consider coming there
Parent
we drink vodka & beer only...
Parent
Montreal, Canada!
canada is kinda nicee tbh
i live in kingston. its such a small town well not to small but deff smaller than toronto and ottawa lmfao. :P.
if you pick Canada definitely go to Kelowna or Vancouver...anywhere in B.C. really.
You'll be bored in Kelowna after a week.
Parent
sup with fin by the way? I would visit Poland just cause of their awesome music taste. :8)

but then uhm canada / japan

rest aren't any interesting

Czech Republic: Prague -> Prague is cool but dunno about czech dont go ;) not kind people, dont understand a fuck from English..
Canada: London, Kelowna, Calgary, Vancouver, Kingston, Waterloo -> I really don't know what to think of Canada.. wannabe USA ?dont go to Canada, its exactly what you said.. wnb USA
Japan: Osaka -> weirdo's Japan, you wanna miss this chance?:O
Mexico: Monterrey, Ensenada, Mexicali,Tijuana Mexican flu?
south korea and singapore, turkey ? but you say as shit "finland UK etc?" U'r fucking weird.
Those countries are too close. If you want to study abroad, you pick a country that is quite far and totally different then yours or your neighbouring countries.
What's the point otherwise of studying abroad? To learn new countries/cultures. If your dutch and you would study in Belgium you could also just stay in your own country.
Parent
yeah but destinations such as South Korea or singapore and turkey dont sound like paradise for me :) Those are countries good when u'r rich but fucking shit for 90% of its inhabitant
Parent
It doesn't matter that much because you go there to study.

And euhm Singapore is very rich m8, yes even the average person, same for Seoul and even the western part of Turkey is quite nice & not as poor as you think.
Parent
get a hooker if you want to study a broad ;)
Parent
I'd go to USA or Mexico I think..

Already been to Japan, love the country but I don't know what it's like to study there.

2 of my friends are going to China and Argentina probably.
depends how much money u have. people can study even on the moon. who cares about nice nature, if u will study and sit on ur pc 24/7.
PARIS PARIS PARIS PARIS PARIS PARIS PARIS PARIS PARIS if you are rather rich
Canada IMO! It's got all of the awesomeness of the States but without the retarded people. Win win!
Should you go to Canada, I would recommend going to Vancouver. I'm from Vancouver and we don't have the harsh winters like the rest of Canada. It was rated one of the best cities in the world (as mentioned above) to live in. I wouldn't go to any other city (other than Montreal) since most of the cities you listed are either in winter mode 10 months of the year or are small cities. Our universities are UBC and SFU(i go there).

We have the Olympics in 2010 too :)
kom gezellig naar leuven !
