MW2 : wtf srsly

Ok i just bought MW2, then started playin. Kickass solo mode...

BUT:

What the hell is that mission with Makarov at the airport?!

At first mission, you learn how to shoot enemy and how to dont shoot at civils and stuff, but then, 3rd or 4th mission, there you go you have to massacre hundreds of civils, and nothing else.

I dont get it seriously. Like we need that kind of stuff in videogames. What will be next? A game about rwanda? Come on let's kill more than 1000 tootsies in less than one minute! What the fuck...

Probably most of you guys dont fuckin care about this and will post some retarded comments but i still think videogames dont need that kind of shit. We can "play" the war, but there is some limits in my humble opinion.

Hope i will not see that kind of shit in the rest of SP...
Have a good night.

"and will post some retarded comments" (Shit i was right.)

Oh you like killing people like that? Go to a hospital real quick dude.
You can like gore but imo not that kind of.

Even if you are 19, or supposed to be, it seems you dont have the maturity to understand my point on this journal, or you didnt read it carefully.

I bet you didnt play that game yet, so your point is childish AND useless.

JA LJUBLJA TEBJAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA MOSKVAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

GO WHINE SOMEWHERE ELSE, BITCH
Parent
Oh, wow ... in a video game you have to kill! Now that is so sad and disappointing! Obviously you'd rage about Resident Evil 5 who's story is in .. omg Africa and omfg - you have to shoot blacks? We can't play Black and white, because NOBODY FUCKS WITH THE JESUS? :XD
Parent
In resident evil they are undeads, not humans without weapons tryin to escape and screaming "help".
Parent
And how about B&W (which is rated for T (Teen)? You can also put people there on fire, throw them around and crush into the trees or hills, drown them, bring suffering and misery on them as the GOD himself. In some missions you are somewhat forced to do that on other GOD's villages to achieve victory. How about that? Killing innocent people, playing the god .. aren't those things in your list of "what we shouldn't do? :)

I just don't find it in any way disturbing - there will be always some mentally ill kids who play way too much video games and then go on massacres .. after playing for a while CS / GTA or as it was in Latvia - few pupils killed a same age girl while trying to replicate Mortal Kombat moves.
Parent
Quotethere will be always some mentally ill kids who play way too much video games and then go on massacres

It has nothing to do with videogames itself. If it wasn't for the game, they would've ran into something else that gives them inspiration for their already fucked up minds.

The problem is simply parenting and psychological health care.
Parent
Well, mostly video games are the easiest thing to blame for all of that (besides that MK murder where the kids even admitted, that they were so into the game that they just had to try that out in real life ... and many other scenes around the world), that's true, but I don't know if parenting would be the right thing to blame (or to be one of things to blame) - maybe I just don't get it yet, can you please explain that a bit?

Only thing what comes in mind are parents buying 18+ video games for underage kids, so almost "telling" them that violence is OK and normal thing to see ... Or are there any other [bad] parenting examples?
Parent
Parenting goes a long way. You can't just let your kids play violent games without having properly taught them what's wrong and right. With a game like this, I don't mind parents buying the game for their kids if they are not old enough to buy it yet, however, they can not let them play it unattended. They should be there to teach them what's right and wrong. Sadfully in many cases you will probably see 12 year old boys getting the game for christmas and playing it unattended in their bedroom. That's what I meant with bad parenting.

If you as a parent guide and teach your kid into the rights and wrongs of things then there must be something mentally wrong at childbirth before a kid like that will start a school rampage.
Parent
this mission is about reality and and an opinion for you, to see how far a terrorist like the one you are playing, would go.
due to fsk, the game is CUT in germany, since there is a possibility for you to shoot civilians too but the game will end if you do so.
i just read that yesterday somewhere.
Parent
I can't see what your problem is, you should of put the gore option off when prompted. Also I don't see anyone complaing about the killing of civilans in GTA?
Parent
In GTA this is not the main mission and you are not forced to do that or participate at this. Big difference.
Parent
Yes but you still run people over and commit some of the worst crimes ever. Murder? Deal with drugs? Steal peoples cars? shoot Police? Besides on that mission you did not have to shoot the innocent people as the other guys did it all. in GTA the whole game is about mass murder, drugs and serious crime. In MW2 you did one mission which was to murder innocent people? So compared to all of the GTA games thats not that bad.
Parent
so comparing horribles crimes makes them less horrible?
Parent
killing russians is always fun!
*Enjoyable.

Sorry to break your spirit but they aint real bro.
Agreed.
Promise me one thing. Never go into politics please. We already have enough retards who want to control the content of video games, and they all are without a single clue.

It has an 18+ label on it and the scene itself is about an American soldier who is undercover who is in a situation where he can't blow his cover and thus he has to go along with what's happening. The plot itself however is that he's being used to start a war between Russia and the US, from which point the rest of the game is based on. Seems like you can't understand it was just a vital part of the story of the game.

Besides, what the fuck are you so upset about? Are you gonna post a journal each time a movie has a shocking scene in it as well? I know tons of movies that have way more horrible scenes than the one you are so upset about and you never hear anything about that.

People need to step of the stupid idea that video games are influencing people to re-enact the scenes from the game in real life. If that is your real worry then you should be more worried about how parenting and psychological care can be improved because I can assure you it has nothing to do with video games, music, movies or any other form of entertainment that contains graphic scenes.
QuoteBesides, what the fuck are you so upset about? Are you gonna post a journal each time a movie has a shocking scene in it as well? I know tons of movies that have way more horrible scenes than the one you are so upset about and you never hear anything about that.

Probably he means the fact that you have to do it (game forces you to do so even if you don't want), not you have to see others do it (movies). Well ,you got the idea :)
Parent
A game doesn't force you to do anything. There is nobody standing beside you with a gun pointed to your head telling you to do it. In fact, in the beginning of the game when you first start it up it actually asks you like two or three times if you want to play that scene. If you really didn't want to, the option to say no was quite in your face to take!
Parent
I haven't played the new one COD so far, so I assumed that this scene is in no way to be skipped (like "Would you skip this one and jump to next one scene?") .. or is it? :)

Anyway, my point was that (and though that mw2 is also one of them) some games force you to do things (like this civilian shootout) in order to move to next level, not like there's someone behind your back and while pointing a gun at your head and in that way forcing you to play it ... :)
Parent
In MW2, when you start the game, the first thing that happens is that it tells you that there is a mission in the game that some people might find offensive and it asks you if you want to skip that mission. You have to confirm it like twice that you do or do not want to play it. So no, it doesn't force you in any way.

But even if it didn't ask you that question, the game is certified with 18+ for a reason.
Parent
But then again .. does it explain what about will be the mission or just that "some might find it offensive"?
Parent
Don't remember if it actually explains what will happen, but that doesn't really matter. If you really want to know that, all you have to do is google "modern warfare 2 shocking scene" and find all the information you need and decide then if you want to play it or not.
Parent
Well, there should be in this case some sort of warning what exactly will be there - some people might find killing virtual kittens more shocking than virtual civilians. I mean, each individual could find that scene in different ways - one might find it rather funny, the other ones probably are so shocked that won't ever again play CoD games .. :)

When there's "Will be something shocking/disturbing now", I'm pretty sure that everyone ignore that fact and are curious to see what exactly will be so shocking
Parent
QuoteWhen there's "Will be something shocking/disturbing now", I'm pretty sure that everyone ignore that fact and are curious to see what exactly will be so shocking

If you know you are a person that will be offended or disgusted with certain things then you shouldn't whine after you selected "yes I will play that mission". Curiosity killed the cat.
Parent
I totally agree with you.
But the thing is i would better like to see a scene to explain this part of the story, no need to play it. Seriously did you enjoy this mission? I didnt.

It has nothing to do with videogames influencing people to act like that in real life and thats not my worry. I just think its a bit sick to play that kind of scene.
Parent
I didn't enjoy the mission itself because it was quite a boring part of the game, but I do understand the point of the scene itself. It's simply to engage the player into the story. Nothing more, nothing less. And you, and politicians all around, shouldn't read so much into it but just understand that it serves a point in the game story-wise.

It's all pretend and fantasy. Hell, a movie is a lot more realistic than some models of a video-game but you never hear anyone about that. Or even worse, the news. You see tons more horrific stuff on there that actually happened for real. That's the kinda stuff that makes my stomage turn around. But textures and models on a video game? Nah. Not even in the slightest.
Parent
+1 for the news, but when you read it or watch it you are passive, not active in a video game, and i think that is different.

Im not screamin that this is absolutely not right to have this in a videogame, i just think its useless and you can tell the story with another way. I think there shouldnt be some stuff either in news, than videogames, than movies, etc. Yes its utopist but that is just my point.
Parent
So what do you suggest. That we just replace the news with episodes of sesame-street? You can't stick your head in the sand for stuff like this. There are simply people that are screwed up in their heads and if it's not for a video game or a movie, they will simply run into anything else that will inspire their already screwed up minds.
Parent
It is all about money anyways..

Nice discussion tho, for once someone replied something smart and interesting :)
Ill read the rest tomorrow.
Parent
So are movies and everything else in the entertainment business. Sadfully the budget of psychological care in a country is also about money and most notably the lack thereof.
Parent
Depends of the country tbh even if its right for most of the countries in EU.
Parent
mate you do know this 18+ labelling is a moral issue enforced by law don't you? Trouble is, there is no enforcement apart from parents.

The other thing I mentioned below...seems like the developers are really attempting to provoke governments for some reason... We need a study group, or at least a PhD student to sort this out into understandable reasoning for us lowly dumb gamer types ..:/
Parent
An 18+ label at least means that nobody in a store is allowed to sell it to anyone under the age of 18. And sure there are still ways to get it (online etc), but that's just like cigarettes, alcohol and porn. You can still get that if you really want to, and here is where parenting comes in again.

I don't agree with you on developers wanting to provoke governments. I don't see the scene as provoking in any way. It's just a fictional story, just like any other hollywood production of which nobody ever whines about (apart from the occasional delusional politician or fanatic)

Besides that I see no harm in such a scene in a video game. It's a game. It's fictional. We've all played games for years and years and have done things in games that would be really horrible in real life but we would never ever even think about doing that for real.
Parent
whilst I do agree with you on principle, look at the wider picture. In fact (I live in Germany now) and have actually spoken to local politicians on these issues. To reiterate, the 18+ label is a moral issue enforced by controlling bodies in all media circles due to acts of government. It, let us say, covers the developers/producers asses. However, this means nothing in real terms. Everyone knows that an 8 year old can download this game from daddy's rs account. With that in mind, why are developers leaving themselves wide open for critic? I suggest bad publicity in this industry really does rule...It will happen...just wait.
Parent
QuoteIt covers the developers/producers asses.

Bullshit. An 18+ label doesn't cover their asses at all. Their asses don't even need covering. What exactly did they do wrong?

An 18+ label is an indication to shop-owners and parents to instruct them to be mindful when kids are going to play that game to be there and guide them into what's right and wrong, or in other words "parenting!".

It's all too easy and just ostrich politics to point the finger towards the entertainment industry, where they should be blaming bad upbringing and bad mental care.

I never hear a politician suggesting to replace the news with episodes of sesame-street because it's too horrific, but yet there it is, right at the 18:00 news around diner time where all the young kids are still wide awake and seeing way more horrific stuff there than in this video game. And yes, way more horrific because that is actually real, and if it's one thing kids do understand at a certain age is the difference between fiction and reality.
Parent
utter bollocks...the 18 labels are not there purely for guidance but they are statutory..if you know what this means. I should know, I spent 2 years starving hungry doing an LLM in Nottingham, to learn this sort of stuff, and the political implications of "violent video games" was one of my interests as being a gamer myself since god was a boy.

Like I said, I agree with you on most of your comments but you are going about it a bit single minded.
Parent
May i ask u what kind of job u have? Your english is always pretty good and i was wondering whats the reason for it :=) I cant rly believe that you learned that during your schooltime.
Parent
My job is not really a factor on my English. I'm a software engineer.

I learned English mostly when I was younger, say between the age of 11 and 16. During that time I was pretty active in the Commodore 64 scene. Everyone communicated in English by normal mail and in the demo's you made so that way you pick it up really fast.

Aside from that I've lived in Canada for about half a year but my English was pretty much the same before and after, though during the time there I was able to speak it a lot easier because you speak it every day, all day.

Oh and discovery channel helps a lot too ;-) I used to watch that lots in bed when I still lived with my parents.

I strongly believe though that the fact that tv shows and cartoons etc are not dubbed to dutch in the Netherlands is a factor here. I remember when I was 10 or something that I was watching cartoons on "fun-factory" (english show, doesn't exist anymore afaik) and that it was all in English. That sticks around.
Parent
Ya that will explain it. :) But another question: So the cartoons in netherlands are all in english or did i get it wrong?
Parent
Back in my day, all cartoons were in English. Right now there are some cartoons being dubbed into Dutch but usually those are cartoons that are targeted at children that can not read yet. Others are mostly in English with dutch subtitles.
Parent
why the +1?

It aint as bad as Postal where you throw gasoline on people to put them on fire and smash their head off with a shovel to play soccer with his head. (Yeah thats fucked up)

But if you're gonna make a point out of this, you might wanna think of going to law school and join Jack Thompson's campaign against this kind of stuff.
Postal is pure awesome - sad that Share the Pain MP part is such a failure QQ

Was quite fun actually, gotta agree. I can have quite a laugh with sadistic shit. But that game took it too far in my opinion.

3rd part coming soon!
Parent
postal is only as violent as you make it :P
you can cruise through most missions without killing shitloads of civilians, you can stand in line and stuff at the bank instead of going on a massacre.. not that I believe many people choose that route though :D
Parent
Hm, yeah. Thought about that. You're right. Can just go to the bank for money and buy some milk...

But the people who do that probably also read the license agreement when installing any program/game.
Parent
I agree with you.
It might not be real but still, I think it was just useless.
I feel for you man...I mean I cried all the time playing rtcw single player those days..All those dudes with helmets have families and feelings too...such a sorry state of affairs

Makes me sad this fps scene, need to go fill up a river with my tears :(((

But on the other hand, after reading what ronner said, though I don't agree with all that he said, does give Politicians more ammo when the next school shooting happens...

This game will be banned / censored in Germany by Merkel and her Minions

This journal will be a long one...well done!
When the next school shooting happens (and I fucking hope it never will), it has nothing to do with scenes from a video game, but all the more to do with already screwed up people that suffered either bad parenting or bad psychological care.
Parent
answered u up there m8, jeez crossfire is slow as hell tonight :/

edit.. but off course you are right, but it doesn't change the fact that some politicians are actually looking for these excuses to ban such games...

what about GRAND THEFT AUTO! - that shit is like 10000x worse.

FFS, i hate this shit. Am sorry (and this isn't pointed at OP) but this shit really has to stop. Its a film/game. What if this happened in a book? Would Politicians get in on that and say 'NOPE!! sorry you'll have to take that sentence out its a bit to graphic...' FUCK YOU!
I was going to say the same thing. Except, the OP is to blame.

then i got to know I was killing russians

needless to say i replayed the mission mowing down everyone i could :)
You are an undercover agent on the first mission, if you haven´t realized that... So I guess you don´t have the game or you are little bit slow...
there was an update which added a dialogue when you start playing the game that says something like:

there is a scene that is not suited for lefties and gays

if you are easily offendend click here

if you are a man click here

so i guess you press the wrong button -_-
Can't see what all of the fuss is about really..

There's a warning, an option to skip and most importantly it's not _really_ happening.
