He did not play that good in the final, though his goal was well taken. He played poorly in the semi-final the year before as well. The problem is the way Spanish teams defend - he is allowed to basically wander around the pitch as much as he pleases, inviting fouls or passing players whenever he has the ball, which makes him look better than he is.

Ronaldo is a far better player in my opinion; he is faster, fitter, stronger and has a better finish too. He played in a worse team - comparatively (if you want to look at the final) - and managed to stand out more, influencing games to a greater degree. The Inter and Porto games were evidence of that.

As a unit, Chelsea have the best defense in the world at the moment and probably have done for the last year or two. Vidic is too temperamental and Ferdinand is on the way out. Maybe in a year or two when Evans matures they will reclaim that mantle!
