The snail is at 0m after the 17th day (daylight, before the 17th night starts).
It may didn't go out then (depends on remaining cm or how long the snail is).
Then it definetly escapes on the 18th day.
But how long can the snail be there without food?
If there is no food, I would say that the snail simply dies.
The answer would be never, if it dies before.
He should have used a robot snail that needs no food or a snail that can find enough food on the sides of the well to survive...
