is there any explanation to it or not? :d because i rly dont get why those settings are optimal

the command com_hunkmegs is used to increase or decrease the size of memory used by the game. By default it is set to 56 which allows the game to run on computers with 64 megs of ram. If your system has more than 64 MB of RAM, you can adjust this value to allow for the loading of more unique models. For example: If you have a machine with 256 megs of RAM you can use the command com_hunkmegs 128 to allocate more memory to the program. You would do this by accessing the game console (press the ~ key), and typing in: \com_hunkmegs 128 (substitute the amount of memory that you would like to dedicate for the "128" in the example above). NOTE: You can only allocate up to 3/4 of your total system memory before you may experience problems with your computer system. The default of 56 is required for the client but is overkill for a dedicated server, and thus wasting precious server memory. For general use free for all, tournament maps, and team deathmatch, a com_hunkmegs setting of 16 is sufficient. Using the included tournament maps only, a com_hunkmegs setting of 12 may be used to conserve more memory. Capture The Flag requires a minimum com_hunkmegs setting of 26 with the included maps. NOTE: user made or future map releases may require a higher setting. If you receive an ERROR: Hunk_Alloc failed then try increasing the com_hunkmegs setting in increments of 2 until the map successfully loads. Command-Line Usage: +set com_hunkmegs

how bout zonemegs & soundmegs? =)

Quake3 defaults to use memory for storing model, map, sound etc. data as if it were on a 64 megabytes machine. Quake3 1.27g and Team Arena now allow 'spooling' of sound allowing far more sound detail to be included by mod authors. New cvars have been added to control memory usage, com_soundmegs and com_zonemegs. If you have more than 64 megabytes then use the table below to optimize memory usage for Quake3 1.2x or Team Arena on your machine:

Default Settings
seta com_hunkmegs "56"
seta com_soundmegs "8"
seta com_zonemegs "16"

128 Megabytes
seta com_hunkmegs "64"
seta com_soundmegs "16"
seta com_zonemegs "24"

160 Megabytes
seta com_hunkmegs "76"
seta com_soundmegs "24"
seta com_zonemegs "32"

192 Megabytes
seta com_hunkmegs "96"
seta com_soundmegs "24"
seta com_zonemegs "32"

256+ Megabytes
seta com_hunkmegs "128"
seta com_soundmegs "32"
seta com_zonemegs "32"

but i have 4GB RAM so i can easily set it hunkmegs to 1024 right? :d
Parent
I tried and error like mad I have 4Gb also, 512 is fine for me atm. The zonemegs and soundmegs shouldn't go above 32 afaik.
Parent
aight, thanks for the help :)
Parent
anything above 256 is overkill in ET, unless you are playing on some of the infamous MEGAMAPS pubs.

Sound megs, memory for sound and zone megs is for map loading/settings?
Parent
omdat je belg bent aapenkop
Parent
btw I was joking about zonemegs, set to 32 should be fine.
Parent
THERE WILL NOT BE FPS LOCK IN BATTLEFIELD BAD COMPANY 2 HURRAY!!!!!!!!

BUT I WONDER IF I WILL HAVE EVEN 60FPS ON IT? :D

:D

:D?
Max for et (hunkmegs) is 512 and who care u can have 16gb but max is 512

com_zonemegs is max 24 try put on game maybe 64 and look on console its still 24
sound megs good is 64 or 32:) or maybe u have hd sound 8.1 then take 128
Memory cvars, all explained there
I heard there is secret numbers that makes hitboxes bigger or it makes you unhitable :o
maybe you have it with your unhit as i have heard?
Parent
Oh that would be nice, I have to most dmg receive all the time :(
Parent
maybe unhit numbers and aimbot? :D:D
Parent
ET will start crashing randomly if u have ridiculously high values
lol maybe this is the reason why i lag out for 15 secs and my desktop resolution set to 800x600 ?
Parent
hmm i guess not :/ but worth testing..
Parent
leave them all on default "0", ET will use however much memory is available and needed, on your 4GB machine it will use whatever it needs (~200mb).

You can safely ignore the guys telling you to put it on fixed values, its a relic from Q3 and the smaller RAM days. And besides you should never put these on fixed values without knowing your RAM capacity and using values based on fractions of your RAM.. but all this doesnt matter anymore.
google is always your friend
