had a deathadder for 1 year just bought a xai. The xai is twice as good, lightweight and find it easier to track etc. But im a noob so dont listen to me!
Well it doesn't desactivate it entirely. It's better, but not as good as a native prediction-less sensor (wmo, 1.1a, IE 3.0, abyssus, and pretty much all the recent unusable laser mice)
g500, xai, and g9x have a non-skipping laser sensor. Perform better than the DA in term of supported speed.
BUT they have inconsistent reporting that creates a non regular built in mouseaccel.
So they've really improved but still not usable. Maybe the next generation will do everything fine :)

Atm I would either go for an IE 3.0, a wmo, a deathadder, or an abyssus depending the shape/weight needed, and a puretrak talent or an icemat - homemade or steelseries - as mousepad, depending if you want a cloth pad or a hard pad.
Puretrak Talent all the way. All the guys I know that have bought it are really happy with it. And most of them tried a lot of pads before, they know what they talk about.
