120 hz vs 85 hz

Hoi guys, I got a problem:

I have two CRTs here:

An eizo f57 with 15,6 inches - able to get 120 hz
A viewsonic p97 with 18 inches - able to get 85 hz

Its easier to see enemies with 18 " i think, but aiming is easier with 120 hz...

What should I use and why?

thx 4 advices

how should we know

Most of the time, bigger CRTs can achieve higher refresh rates then smaller CRTs.
Your 18" CRT can probably do 120Hz.
Also try lowering your resolution.
i play @ r_mode 4, 85 hz only @ nvidia

perhaps its a newer kind of crt or so, not sure
Parent
use powerstrip and force the hz :)))))))))))))))
drivers never show real hz anyway...
my driver shows me 200hz max but it's 160 :P
Parent
powerstrip - i will remember that :D

btw i think we had a kewl cf-conversation on silvester :D
Parent
lol true :C
Parent
how much did u drink?
Parent
can't even remember :|
Parent
my dad has a blow-in thingy like the police has - it said 2.46 to me
i cant remember what i drank but i remember the conversation with such a nice girl like u :D (i go eat bb)
Parent
dont play on a 15,6" :p
need perfo
Perfo uses a 15"

A 15" Fujitsu Siemens TFT that is.

bigger screen @ 85 fps & 85 herz ( or even at 76 and 75 )
im using that atm and i dont feel bad with it!
but i wasnt sure coz i read many times "more hz => smoother game =>better aim " and stuff
Parent
85hz / 85Fps -> big screen and smooth
120hz / 125Fps -> small screen and smoother

So Imo use the 85
Parent
the advantage you get by playing on the bigger screen > the advantage you would get by playing with a quiker refreshrate

or that's how I see it

I play ET at rmode 4. But when I put the displayrefresh higher than 85 hz my ET view isn't fullscreen anymore. It's also not a real square anymore. It gets oval -_- How can this be?

I have a 22" inch iiyama screen. But it's better to use the whole screen even if it's less smooth then ?
Parent
75hz on a crt isn't very good on your eyes, would probably give you frequent headaches
Parent
played with it for several years, never had problems ( though I do have a synus condition and my head hurts frequently anyway so maybe I'm not the best person to judge this one ;D )
Parent
was playing on 76 and even on 40 on crt and none headaches
Parent
A low refresh rate on a crt can cause eye strain, which can also result in headaches. I'm not saying everyone gets headaches if they look at a crt with 60hz, just that it does put a lot of strain on your eyes and some people suffer with headaches more by using them.
Parent
85fps is pretty buggy.. it makes u laggy which will make u unhitable but also will let u hit worse.

and for the hz part.. i think its all placebo.
Parent
always played on 60hz laptop screen but at cc5 played on 120 hz screen and it felt so nice. Could have been the 0 ping aswell, but if ur used to playing with shit hz then choose the bigger screen
bigger screen obviously, but i think you can reach 120hz..
just set r_displayrefresh 120 and you dont have to set anything at driver, should work.
will try that this evening thx
Parent
Both of them sound far from ideal, try looking for another crt online. Can get a good crt second hand for cheap these days.
eizo was free for me (teacher offered it to me)
viewsonic was 10 € for me

so nvm
Parent
17'' 1152x864 @85Hz, so 85Hz is fine imo :)
ok not my resolution :D
Parent
I wouldn't care about the screen size as long as it's 120Hz
GET THE FUCK OUT OF UR FUCKING CAVE AND BUY LCD
better than eye-cancer crt :D i hate them crt's gives me headaches
Parent
120hz here
no headache :)
Parent
100 hz crt here :D
Parent
got 22" viewsonic lcd @ 120hz. simple as.
Can you get yours to do lower resolutions at 120hz?

When I tried setting it at nVidia my monitor started freaking out.
Parent
haven't tried actually. could try, but not in windows because it fucks up everything.
Parent
How much was it?
Parent
was around 270€ few months back.

fps 100
r_mode 6
100 hz
curved screen

Parent
a flat one is better I guess? : d
Parent
Curved screen eats one inch so 19' monitor would be only 18'.

21' flatpanel here. <3___<3
