console and stuff

After playing ET for 1 hour, strage things start to happen:

-Console starts disappearing
-then the text "recording xxxxxxxx" starts to disappear aswell
-then it takes so long to load a map - the lagometer stays yellow all the time and after -almost a minute it starts loading
-when a round starts it takes about 5-10 for me to be able to move (all i see is the yellow lagometer again)

any idea why? think it has to do with memory/ram

Stay with vista.. I haven't had probs with it, windows 7, you hear thousands of problems in journals with it everyday

Well, works exactly like XP, except that you can't vid_restart inside the server because you get some weird kick most of times. I never had this kind of problems tho, because i always use the same config (and i vid_restart before joining the server)

ye, used to vid_restart before a match usually, but fixed it with autoexec.cfg instead. and i haven't play a match on a pb config for ages anyway :p

u can vid_restart with win7. There is a bug fix for that on crossfire which helped me and everyone else.

Just get the pnkbstr services -> right click -> properities -> log on tab -> let it interacte with the desktop

sometimes these settings reset.. like after a pb update i think. But that should work then. Also run them in compatible mode (which isnt needed here but to be on the safe side :P ).


vista > xp
Win 7 > xp
Win7 > vista

Vista is slower but i find it much much much more stable than xp.

and for your actual problem: no idea :P

ye if you dont vid_restart u wont have any probs too :P

and totalyl disagree... xp gets slow and fucked up after using it for a time.. i guess every year you can re-format.. also its unstable as hell.

Vista might be slower than xp but it wont get slower after 7000000 installing/uninstalling of programs and also i never had any bluescreen or freezing or anything after using it for 6 months. no registry cleaner or anything similiar needed in vista/win7 while u need it in xp and mostly only fuck up your system with such cleaners :/

i didn't overclock and i have the same problem as you, tbfh i think it's vista, it eats so much ram, and the more et is on the more memory it is leaking, think format will do the trick for some weeks/months, prolly best to install xp or w7
