Ladder Idea

I was just talking to Canadapunkk about several things, among them ladders. I've been approached several times about doing one day cups, and we have a lot of scattered 3v3 scrims in the US, Canada, Mexico, and Chile. A lot of those teams belong to improperly managed unpatched leagues that allow cheaters because they don't think they can compete in leagues. If you're not familiar with the North American ET scene, there are only three 2.6b ETPro servers and only two active pubs. There are several 2.55 pubs that are populated regularly, most of them are Jaymod, NoQuarter, or ETPub servers with silly settings. There are probably 20 or 30 of those. There are five or six 2.55 competitive ETPub servers, and several 2.55 ETPub scrim servers. With the exception of two or three of them, those servers aren't well managed. Basically, it's completely divided and scattered. So punkk and I both agree that a properly run 3v3 cup would help bring proper and diverse competition and help rejuvenate the scene a bit. Then punkk suggested we allow European teams. I might be open to that, but I suggested instead that maybe we include Australian and Asian teams to help boost their scenes. We could buy several servers in California to make the ping difference tolerable. Just wanted to know if any of you from North/South America, Asia, or Australia would be interested in a trans-continental ladder, and if there are any data providers, sponsors, or gaming organizations that would be willing to work with wocen.org in providing quality competition to our community.

great idea
good idea. but be prepared to get raped by the european ET scene! (not me thou... i suck)
europe gonna roll im afraid
Well, if we got enough teams in the ladders, we could do several different ladders for different skills. I would probably try to do it without Europe first then expand if I see the need. Europe already has ladders.
ladders for different skilllevels??? that doesnt make sense...

It's sort of a weird concept but I think it would be better if we added all the countries in together. It sounds better when you say you were 2nd in the beta ladder than 76th in the alpha ladder.

Kinda like TWL? Alpha beta?
Parent
Yes just like TWL.

That's comparable to the Warleagues/RTCW.no model. If you put that up there I think the euro's will understand better.

Yes I heard most americans are low 2.55 heroes

I have one of them in my Xfire and he's stupid. I think I'm going to delete him.
Well what really kills me is that the 2.55 scene is either intimidated by the 2.6 scene because they're more competitive, they don't even know a 2.6 competitive scene exists, or they are cheaters. Thus, the vast majority of them haven't been exposed to skilled play. So we have the same handful of people playing each other and nobody gets any better.

euros dont want to play with 200 ping, and I guess most "new" Americans neither
Well it sounds good - and maybe worth a try - but I don't see the benefit for the european teams. Playing with 150/200 ping against - probably - lower skilled opponents while there are loads and loads of teams within Europe itself with all sorts of skills to play against. All I'm saying is, such thing is not needed for European teams so I doubt many want to put a lot of effort in it.

It could be a good initiative for the NA/Asian teams tho and maybe some European teams want to try it, who knows.
best to make it without euros imo
id take part in this
+1 for the idea
-2 for the text dump
In my opinion a really good idea, If you see how "dead" the ET scene is the last days compared to games like COD4. @ cod4 it takes like 1 min to find a war. @ the ET channels it takes like 10 mins usually (if its not sunday evening)
Getting Americans / Australians / Chinese people more to our side would be nice, and indeed if the pings are more equal. Would make it much easier to find a war, and would give you more oppurtunities to play in more good organisated cups instead of the OC/EC or at the random ladderwars. So Good Luck with this possible project ur starting.
Keep the scene alive (H)
@Ping will be a problem
I can get 2 16 slot servers in San Jose, California for $25. Ping from Sydney to there was 160, which isn't unplayable.
