Quake 4 game

Would really like to play this game again , i have a real copy but the cd doesn't work anymore and it doesn't work with any of my friends as well (Universal problem?) ex: sneek , acid, lio etc

If I download this game with a crack but i fill in the real key can I play it online?
Or are there any other options?

as long as you need to install it (means: you can still install patches), you shouldn't have a problem.
