hello, router question

im gonna take internet from local cable tv provider (or whatever its called).
he delivers internet [25mb/s] with coaxial cable which goes to the modem and then ethernet or usb. but i want to have internet also on my notebook, so i need a router.

i dont want their shit modem, so...
i want to buy a router where i can connect coax and at least one ethernet cable. it also needs to have WiFi, so i can have inet on my notebook. any ideas what routers are good for that?

i need a router with inputs/outputs/whatever like this:

eeeeeh, shouldnt they should give you a router lol
if they give me a router then i need to connect it with modem+router, and i want to have a modem inside my router, so i have one box instead of thousands of them. also, i want a nice WiFi signal.

Most cable internet providers ship their customers with a bridged cable-modem, meaning coax cable goes in and ethernet cable comes out. It just translates coax signals to network signals. That's it.

What you do with that ethernet cable is up to you. You can stick it straight into your pc and it will work, or you can hook it up to a router which will act as your network gateway for multiple networked devices (pc, laptop, mediacenter, coffeemachine if you like etc) in your local area network.

So to answer your question, no they shouldn't. They provide internet connectivity, not your local area network.

i can get router from them but its bullshit, they want to pay them 5pln per month (its like 1,5 euro per month just for having fucking router!) thats why i want to buy router with modem in it by myself.

Seems like your stressing for no reason. Cable modem + Cable router is a pretty standard setup. :D
Parent
same here, works like a charm
Parent
Even more so, 1.50 a month is so unbelievably cheap. That's only 18 euro's per year to rent a router basically. Peanuts if you ask me but I guess he's a cheap pole :P
Parent
1,5 euro's per month to rent a router is really cheap. That's only 18 euro's per year. I can tell you right now you can not buy a cable-modem and router in one device that cheap. If you want some decent quality you'll probably end up buying something that costs well over 100 euro's. That's 5+ years of renting the one from your isp.

and yes, like razbo said, it's a very comon set up to have a cable modem and router seperately. I have that too.

Worked fine so far, though it limits my dl/ul to ~7mbit/s.
picture is moved bla bla...

i dont mind limiting but to 12,5mbit/s so i can have use of my 25mbit connection *_*
Parent
So can you dl 25mbit/s now or is it just the connection type what they sell to you? This one is good for 54mbit-connection, so it eats 46 out of my connection. But I have to use it because of the wireless...
Parent
they change cable frequency on friday, id prefer to have a router before that time.

yep, will be able to dl 25mb/s.

Oh, I somehow totally skipped that one. Ye, it doesn´t have one. Weird that you have it there.
Parent
after reading some shizzle in inet i think that provider modem is a must. daaaamn, big, awful black box looking like its some robot from 90's :|
Parent
Cos it doesn't exist?
You need to get the modem from your provider. The output of the modem you plug into your router.
Parent
Use a cable router with your ISP provided modem. It will work fine. :)
yeee i know itll work but i wonder if i can do anything to connect it without a mode :D (its pretty big, 2 my friends have it)
Parent
then you can buy a modem/router unit :[

Parent
