look at reputable brands eg: akg, audio technica, sennheiser, denon, beyerdynamic, grado
avoid "gaming" brands like razer, steelseries
find info & trusted reviews on http://www.head-fi.org/
headphones are subjective. nobody can tell you what to get.
these are working pretty nicely for me at the moment
for that price i would go for sony (only high end sennheisers perform well, and the other two can be pricey also), this pair is very good (tested, bought a pair for housemate -- they come close to my sennheiser MKII's in sound):

amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-MDR-V700DJ-Professional-DJ-Headphones/dp/B00005QBU6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1271098110&sr=8-1
those are well known/famous dj headphones in your price range, they do some "extra base" series too, but DJ and producer headphones are the best because they are monitor headphones AKA they don't colour sound.
you can safely ignore the people posting gaming makes for headphones jeesus :/
