The signups for the Crossfire Devotii Challenge 4 have been a mixed bag of emotions for us. On the one hand the signups for Call of Duty 4 have been fantastic and we're pleased to confirm that we're expanding the tournament from 20 to 32 teams!
While Enemy Territory and ET:QuakeWars haven't looked so great early on, it seems that both communities are rising to the occasion to bring on more teams as the other. One to prove it is a game that deserves a LAN and the other to show it has not died off yet. ET:QW is past the 16 team marker.
In total, 693 players have signed up so far!
We are asking teams to sign up as soon as possible if they're planning on attending so that we can contemplate tournament expansions or reductions. We have additional capacity at CDC4 which will be publicized in early 2008 which we'd love to fill!
You can find the current list of signups below.
To sign up to any tournament you must complete your clan roster on Crossfire (here) and mail your application to crossfiresignups at gmail dot com - including a link to your Clan Profile on Crossfire and the primary email and phone number of the clan. Teams will first sign up and then an undefined amount of teams will be invited to the tournament with the remaining participants playing qualifiers. Invites will be based on players' reliability at previous Challenge events as well as the roster's potential skill, proven by previous achievements of individual players and the team itself. We will attempt to accommodate players wishing to play in two (2) tournaments.
Signups will close on Sunday January 6th and the Invites & Qualifiers will be published the following week. All payments should be due by January 18th.

Like? I respect your opinion, but I just want to know what your talking about.
When Splash Damage were developing ET:QW they talked about competitive support and the likes, and we all took it it would be there out of the box. Many competitions were getting ready to kick off as soon as the game would be released and many teams were interested in playing. However SD did not add a lot of competitive support out of the box, which got a lot of people confused whether Splash Damage even cared about the competitive community. When Infinity Ward announced ModWarfare, a system which allowed great customization of how the game was played out of the box, many ET:QW players decided to go to CoD4 because the game had a lot more competitive support. Now Splash Damage has announced ET:QW TV and the ET:QW Competition mod it might already be too late for them, but for new players there will be a lot of opportunities to play ET:QW in competition just the way they want to.
Another question is how you define a game to be a competitive success, do you want to count the amount of teams playing it actively or do you want to look at the fun it is for the teams playing the game competitively?
In the end I think both CoD4 and ET:QW have a great competitive future ahead of them, but in ET:QW it will take more time for it to grow into something very beautiful, because Splash Damage made certain choices in favor of public play and accessibility.
[blabla] It is obvious that ET:QW is a complete new game, although it has some stuff in common with W:ET.
Thereby I believe that COD4s SP has an attracting power no other single player has, same for COD1+2.
Splash Damage might have done wrong on the sloth with the TV and competitive stuff, but I don't actually believe that is the main reason ET:QW has been left aside for many people.
On the question how to define a successful game I believe that you should measure [games sold/still playing] and not on how many teams signed up, but in both cases that is still COD4. [/blabla]
GL with ETQW, I still don't like the game but I see that it will need more time.
ET:QW is a mix of a few games and it's harder for people to siwtch, cuz they will like some aspects of the game and not all. And complete new games need more time to get players.
EDIT: ur now thinking I'm a liar ;)
The only thing I see of QW is the fragmovies, but they are so fucking boring, so I'm glad I havent spend the 50 euros on QW and I will spend them tonight <:D

You make it too easy.

DM 1on1: 37 Played, 37 Won
Well atleast it gives others a shot at the cdc4 title

gl guys but you won't make it;)!
we'll see..

It gonna suck omg...
16 ET Teams
16 ET:QW Teams
What about that? :o
Additionally, that suggestion only gives 5 'extra' teams for QW, and given the normal level of dropouts that might well leave us short for a 16 team QW tournament (it probably wouldn't, but it might be close). CoD4 presently has 17 extra teams...
The other problem is the schedule - firstly it'd be more complicated, as sets of 5 PCs currently marked as CoD4 setups would need to be used frequently for ET and ETQW games. Secondly, with the generally longer games in ET and especially ETQW alongside the requirement for 1 extra PC per team it is very difficult to fit into the time, even though it probably reduces the total number of games played by 8 in total.
16 teams for ET
12 teams for ET:QW
12 players for w§w
Would be better in my opinion.
12 teams for ET
16 teams for ET:QW
Would be better in my opinion.
I count 26 though..
proof that ET is not dead yet and ET:QW is already dead before it was born
how come? its still at WZZRD isnt it?
edit: oh yea, just noticed someone had added them to that list again :s
just yesterday Lightning came to ask me if he could remove them from the list and I told him that he could do and they were both removed already
16 teams for ET
12 teams for ET:QW
teams signed up per slot ratios:
CoD4: 58/32 = 1,8125 (current: 58/40 = 1,45)
ET: 29/16 = 1,8125 (current: 29/12 = 2,41667)
ET:QW: 20/12 = 1,667 (current: 20/12 = 1,667)
when you watch at the amount of clans signed up for each tourney and the amount of slots reserved for each tourney, you can see that CoD4 has 40 slots for their tournament and 58 clans signed up. ET on the other hand has 31 clans signed up and only 12 slots reserved for the tourney. So CoD4 has just 1,45 clans signed up per each slot while ET has 2,58 clans signed up per each slot.
this means that fairly over half of the ET teams won't be able to take part in the competition while almost all of the CoD4 teams signed up can participate. also as the maximium capacity of the venue is already reached, you can't just add more slots for ET, so you need to reduce the slots from some other tourney.
and as I already pointed out, when looking at the amounts of clans signed up per slots in each tournament, it's obvious that CoD4 has fair too much slots compared to ET based on amount of clans signed up compared to size of the tournament. so most fair thing in my opinion would be to reduce some slots from CoD4 and add more to ET.
this is just my opinion tho and it's up to tournament organisers to decide about the tournament sizes for each game, but can't really get what's hard to understand on what I was saying.
so ur ratio thingy, which is retarded, is biased
and why do i care anyway..
if you can't see those tournament sizes as biased on CoD4, even if ET is 6on6 and CoD4 5on5, you aren't the smartest guy around atleast
40 CoD4, 16 ET and 8 QW could work though, but I don't see it happening :p
ET Slots - 12
plz -.-
59 CoD4 teams for 40 spots = 1.475
32 ET teams for 12 spots = 2.667
20 QW teams for 12 spots =1.667
time to decrease CoD4 and increase ET tbh !
btw in the news i can only see 32 cod4 teams, not 40? where did u see that
And why perfo not ? Shit community
and many more.. if the banlist was here or fusenlist to check it out ..
hf sol & zerender! :*
Hope to show you that 'noflash' on LAN :*
:D
around 66% .. i thought .. 36 teams.. 12 slots ..
