This is the end...Beautiful friend...The end of our elaborate plans...Of everything that stands.
The grand finale between The Last Resort and Team-Dignitas marked the end of EuroCup XXII.
Against all odds and against all expectations The Last Resort rose from the ashes of the Upper Bracket Final and defeated Team-Dignitas 8-0 thus claiming the EuroCup XXII championship title.
Most Valuable Players lost to TLR in the Lower Bracket Final and came in third this season.
But let us reflect upon the past three months, from Genesis to Deuteronomy, before we begin preparing for the upcoming NationsCup XIV.
The signup gates for the Fall 2010 season were opened late in August and 30 days later we had 156 teams in both the OpenCup and EuroCup.
At first we planned to have a 'High and Low Qualifier' system for the EuroCup but during the traditional EuroCup Invite Show both ICTUS and Wonderland disbanded forcing us to completely change the qualifier system and host a three team qualifier tournament instead.
After the qualifier tournament was over, and the losing teams dropped to the OpenCup Premiere division all groups were published in both cups.
During the first matchweek Two4two decided to call it a day; thus we replaced them with Stronger Than Hate, who had previously lost to 242 and 1stCav in the qualifier stage and dropped to OC Premiere.
The group-stage continued as planned and after three weeks the match between TLR and gZcon marked the start of the playoffs. The two best teams in each group continued to the playoffs.
During the playoffs Kamz created two match report videos, and Owzo began shoutcasting on a weekly basis.
As the playoffs progressed, teams lost and others won, as it is the natural order of things. In between the matches players like drago, frozz, and Anim were interviewed. Even Nellie pitched in and wrote a column. Which brings us back to the start of this post.
Last, but not least, during the tournament many people worked tirelessly to make it a success:
- The GamesTV crew who bridged the gap between the players and viewers, allowing the Enemy Territory community to watch such games as the EuroCup XXII final, which attracted over 1200 spectators, with ease and pleasure.
- Owzo & s0k1: who shoutcasted and entertained in both English and Polish.
- Kamz: who created two wonderful match report videos.
- Virtu & kNas: who created the many OC & EC banners.
- And the teams themselves which were, and will always be, the reason why the EuroCup has always been such a success.
The ET ClanBase crew wishes everyone a happy new year and as always, we'll meet again next season! Make sure to check out the OpenCup winners and final news post as well
