SAGE ET tournament info!

It's the first major event of the year for Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and, so far, the largest ET LAN announced for 2011. Formerly going by the name of "TLR's eSports Challenge", I can now confirm some more information about the LAN event, including some specifics about the ET tournament...



Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory tournament
This tournament will be limited to 16 teams in order to keep numbers manageable yet still have a great tournament. The event filled up relatively quickly and will feature the top teams from the scene. The group stage will be best-of-three followed by a best-of-three double elimination playoff bracket. Teams will compete across four groups of four teams. Naturally, the format will be 5 versus 5 on Stopwatch mode. The maplist is yet to be decided, but don't forget the winning map of the mapping contest will have their map included in the list.

I would like to add, as well, the teams who do not make it into the playoff stage from the groups will still have a chance to play in their own fun tournament bracket in order to give everybody a minimum of 4 matches. I will also state now, if the event experiences any massive delays, this consolation tournament will be cancelled.

Event coverage
As for streaming and event coverage, Owzo will be at the event working on behalf of Kaos TV as will Anaconda from Games TV to bring all your ETTV needs!

As for textual coverage (ie. posts here on Crossfire), I would appreciate anybody who wishes to come forward to let me know by sending me a PM here. I will be expecting you to work quickly and efficiently (and admittedly pretty long hours at times), in return I will provide a bed for you at Logica.

I can confirm that I am looking to gain a couple (or so) more computers to run some fun community competitions as I know there are a lot of you out there who like playing Quake Live and StarCraft 2 right now. I am also looking into running a FIFA tournament on the consoles at Wzzrd should there be enough interest.

If you would be looking to compete, depending on the numbers, I’d be looking for around €10 per player for each tournament. Some of the cash will be used as a prize (probably winner takes all) and some will go into the rental of the spare computers. I will see about getting some extra prizes for these as well (no promises, though!). These tournaments will strictly be open to the Crossfire & TEK9 communities. “Pro” players need not enter. Again, these tournaments will only go ahead should there be a high enough interest and if I can secure extra PCs.

Our team have paid to play in the tournament but we can no longer go, do we get a refund?
As a policy, I will not offer a refund in this circumstance. It is your responsibility to ensure that your team can attend before you pay the entry fee. However, you are allowed to sell your spot either privately or by contacting one of our event organisers.

What happens if we pay and you cancel the event?
In the unlikely situation that the event will be cancelled, I will refund you the €350 entry fee that you have paid to attend. Unfortunately, I cannot be held responsible for any funds you may lose in booking your travel or accommodation.

How much does it cost to spectate at the event?
Nothing. Spectating is free.

Our team want to play in both tournaments, is this allowed?
Yes. It is not against the rules for your team to participate in both tournaments running at the event. However, I must remind all players that it is their responsibility to ensure they are able to play all matches on time otherwise they may suffer a forfeit loss. Due to the nature of LAN tournaments, we strongly advise to limit your team to one tournament for the whole event.

Do I need my PC to play in this event?
No. This event is a non-BYOC event. WZZRD will be providing PCs. Here are the specs of those PCs: Intel QuadCore Q9950, 4GB RAM, 1TB HDD, nVidia GeForce GTS250. Each PC runs Windows XP Professional.

Will I need to bring any hardware or drivers with me?
Bring your mouse, mouse mat, keyboard and headset with you (ensuring these are USB). We also recommend that you bring a USB pen with your config and drivers on it. This will also be useful for saving demos.

Am I allowed to bring my own food and drink to the venue?
In order to show respect to the staff at WZZRD gaming centre, I ask that you do not to bring your own food and drink to the venue.
