News
Each Monday I plan to cover the past week's latest news surrounding the world of gaming, including major tournament results, headline gaming news and notable gaming releases and updates. So without further ado ...
eSports
This past weekend saw the latest installments of the hugely popular ESL IEM and MLG eSports tournaments. The Intel Extreme Masters, which were hosted in New York City, begun a day earlier on Friday 14th and saw players compete in League of Legends, Counter-Strike and Starcraft II competitions. The results of these respective competitions can be found here.
The Major League Gaming Pro-Circuit took to Orlando, Florida for the 5th edition of this years calender. Once again MLG showed why their events are leading eSports into the 21st Century as they treated their hundreds-of-thousands strong audience to some absolutely amazing Starcraft II, Call of Duty: Black Ops and Halo matches. Our very own Noorgrin should be posting the full recap of MLG Orlando's results this evening so be sure to check those out. The 6th and final fixture of this year's Pro Circuit will be held in Providence in a month's time.
Also finishing at the beginning of last week was the International eSports Federation 2011 World Championships hosted in Andong, Korea. I had the privilege of attending this event as the national representative of the United Kingdom and I'll be documenting my experience of Korea and the event itself in the coming weeks here on Crossfire. The tournament featured A.V.A, Fifa and Starcraft II competitions as well as serving as a backdrop to the IeSF General Meeting. The work being done behind the scenes at such events will go on to define the future of eSports and it's role within the mainstream entertainment industry, so watch this space!
Gaming News
Sony were once again the headlines for all the wrong reasons as they fell victim to further attacks on their Playstation Network and Sony Online services. Over 93,000 accounts were said to be targeted but Sony claim that little to no activity was recorded on these compromised accounts. Despite their own defence in the media, this will come as another hammer blow to the reputation of the entertainment giant. Should your account have been targeted you will have received an email from Sony detailing what course of action you should take.
One interesting piece of news to come out of the developers of Deus Ex was the first media peak at their brand new engine: "Luminous". Seen here on YouTube, Square Enix take you on a photo-realistic 15 second walk down a grubby corridor. (You'd think that with such an impressive engine they'd show us a little more than a corridor) With the world of in-game graphics being pushed ever closer to what is indistinguishable between real and computer-generated, Luminous is perhaps the last big step.
Notable Releases
This week saw the latest release of racing sim Forza with Forza Motorsport 4. The 360 exclusive has recieved universal critical acclaim and scored itself an impressive 91/100 on Metacritic. A must for any racing enthusiast with an Xbox.
Although not released in the last 7 days I want to give an honorable mention to From Software's Dark Souls. Released on both PS3 and 360, the dark fantasy RPG is the spiritual successor to GameSpot's Game of the Year 2009: Demon's Souls. Speaking for myself, I absolutely love this game as it is a throw back to the golden generation of single-player games, offering a punishing difficulty curve rarely seen in today's 'hand-holding' titles. Even God of ET azatej is lost deep within the world of Dark Souls! The game is currently rated at 89/100 on Metacritic. If you're looking for a single player RPG, look no further.

This week sees the release of Batman: Arkham City and the week after brings us Battlefield 3. October once again delivers as the month for games in a year which just keeps on giving.

There's a broken mentality that nothing should be posted on Crossfire that doesn't exclusively cover ET, but the fact of the matter is that there simply isn't enough ET to cover 7 days of news a week.
If you really desire to read about nothing but ET then there are filters on the site.
LOL
LOL
nvm aza is in so i like :)
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!we miss you god of et !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
played wc3 since 2003 and I just love it.
If you don't play for 2/3 weeks then suddenly you don't know anything anymore and everything that worked for you before is no longer useful and you actually have to follow the metagame to stand a chance. Thankfully SC is an amazing spectator sport and events like MLG and the GSL mean I'll happily watch SC for years to come without having to be any good at playing ^^
how many players play SC2 actively?
and also is there custom games in SC2 like in wc3? I mean tower defences, footywars, dota etc. ?
Guess I'll buy a new pc & SC2 next month. Xmas holidays will be standard nerding 24/7 :D
No idea how many play, but it's a lot! You'll never have trouble finding a game at any time of the day.
Hundreds of custom games. Thousands. TD, footywars, dota, whatever, it's all there
or could just ignore you.
guess I have to go with the 1st option :<
Epic winning there :)
Really you got some extra energy, you should use it to something useful. what about to start goint to gym or getting a boyfriend?
Someone will give you 2 months aswell, and there we go, 4 months in total of nice written news.
