CoD2 at WonderBase Lan in Sweden

image: wbsscu8

Another great CoD2 event is just around the corner and this time the location is Ahaga, Sweden. Although WonderBase does feature the usual suspects, Quake 4, Warcraft and CS, they have also allocated a hefty prize sum to Call of Duty 2. With over €2,000 for first place you can expect to see some of Europe's biggest names making their way to Sweden this November and it looks certain to be an exciting weekend. Popular Swedish community site CallofDuty.se have teamed up with the organisers to run the event and after a disappointing Dreamhack tournament, Johnny "toker" Törnvall will be hoping for more luck this time around. WonderBase have backed up their words with action though and although the news that the event will have it's own chef is an added bonus, most attendees will be more pleased to hear the news that CoD2 will be the only game where tournament PCs are provided, eliminating the need for players to cart their computers all the way to Sweden.

The event will be held in Ahaga, with space for over 1,200 gamers and all useful amenities nearby. CallofDuty.se have also announced that their partners Activision will be present at the event and as well as giving you the chance to try out the unreleased Call of Duty 3 game they are also in negotiations with companies such as Microsoft and Nvidia to increase the prize pot for CoD2 even more. This would be great news and with the likes of Dignitas and Speedlink already showing an interest would only serve to boost the event's publicity even more. Exact dates and times for the CoD2 tournament are likely to be announced in the coming days but it appears likely that it will run from the 2nd to the 4th of November, finishing one day before the event ends. Be sure to check back here for all the latest updates concerning dates, times and of course what you all want to know about... prize money!

Gotfrag Interviews Trigger Post EuroCup

image: gotfrag_smallIt has been a hard week for Michael Sowa, aka Trigger, as he has gone from hero to zero in the space of one weekend. Previously voted the number one CoD2 player in Europe by his peers last sunday he left the EuroCup Lan Finals in shame. Despite being the hot favourites, Speedlink crashed out against Check Six and Tek-9 and Trigger was a shadow of his former self. Various rumours have been spreading about the team's future after such a shocking blow so Gotfrag's Liam Crowley decided to speak to the man himself to get to the bottom of it.

In this in-depth interview Trigger explains in detail how it felt to fall so utterly short of their expectations in Denmark and what was running through their heads as they left without a win. Read on for a small extract...

You mention nerves, but you guys have played well at numerous big events before. Was it the pressure on the team to perform after losing to Dignitas in the Crossfire PrizeFight Challenge?

It was just for me about nerves. I think the other guys were calmer then me, but still Nightwalker and Fuchs couldn't perform well. I have asked myself these past days why I couldn't control my nerves. I played several big events and never had this problem, now they are here and I don't know why, or how to get rid of them. I think and hope it was only a bad day for me and thats why i couldn't control it. If it's coming up again, I have to see what I can do against it. But let's hope its not coming again. Without beeing arrogant, I lead my team sometimes to the victory. Now i ermined with -10 stats. If this becomes the "normal" it's all the time a 4 on 5 and that can't be the way.

CoD2 at Netgamez 2006 Autumn Edition

It's hard to believe it was only earlier this year that we saw Speedlink and Check Six, at the time known as TmG, battle it out in the Grand Final of one of the first major Call of Duty 2 lans. But that was Netgamez 2006A and now the B version lies only around the corner. Featuring a fairly impressive €1,000 for the winners this event will be no slouch and you can expect a number of big name central European teams to be showing their faces there.

This is a BYOC event which makes it harder for teams from further afield to attend but the 2006A event had over 40 CoD2 teams in attendence so with an even bigger prize pot this time around you can expect more of the same. With space for over 1,500 gamers in the BYOC area and an impressive stage for the finals there is a lot of space but book your tickets fast to avoid disappointment as the Dutch gaming community will jump fast at the chance to rub shoulders with the likes of Grubby and Forever who will both be in attendence for their respective games.

Name: Netgamez 2006B
Date: 13-15th October 2006
Location: Nieuwegein, Holland

CoD2 Prizes:

- 1st Place €1,000
- 2nd Place €300
- 3rd Place €150
- 4th Place €100
- 5th Place €100
- 6th Place €100

Major Changes in Tek-9.Steelpad

After a profitable weekend at the EuroCup Lan Finals in Denmark, Tek-9 have returned home to announce their new roster for the upcoming winter events. Despite exceeding expectations and taking down Speedlink to earn 3rd place in EuroCup XIII, roster changes were inevitable as Frijec was already tied to aeon.eSports and was only ever going to be a temporary stand-in for Tek-9. Although he did turn out to be a strong performer for them in Denmark, it is likely that his replacement will be only to happy to fill his shoes.

It will be none other than the former Check Six star, Knaller, who will be taking over his spot. After a brief spell in H2k, it's likely that the lure of rejoining former team mates Sko, Ozwald and moMa was too strong to resist. The move also sees Greeny take a step back into inactivity for the moment and in his place returns none other than Sko. He has declared himself fully active and along with Knaller will hopefully provide the raw talent Tek-9 need to elevate their game to the next level.

This leaves them with a very promising lineup which is as follows...

Belgium Davy
Belgium Mitox
Netherlands Sko
Netherlands Knaller
Sweden moMa
France Ozwald

CoD2-EuroCup XIII Grand Final Tonight

The EuroCup XIII Lan Finals kicked off yesterday morning in Aarhus, Denmark and it was a day of shocks and surprises for many. Check Six were the heroes of the day, taking down both Speedlink in Dignitas but Tek-9 pulled off an upset as well, sending Speedlink home from the Lower Bracket in an intense match. Nobody expected so much from these teams as they both had recently undergone major lineup changes and Check Six in particular had only played as a team for just over two weeks.

Today sees Dignitas face off against Tek-9 on mp_dawnville to fight for a spot in the Grand Final later this evening against Check Six. Coming from the Upper Bracket, Check Six will have the advantage of only needing to win one map but with the way the tournament has gone so far who knows what will happen? It has been an incredible tournament so far and even if you don't play CoD2 you should head over to GGL and Gotfrag to check out all the VODs and match reports from the games.

Gotfrag European Call of Duty 2 Rankings September 06

Over at Gotfrag the latest Call of Duty 2 team rankings have just been released and Speedlink have just managed to hold on to their number one spot, despite their recent loss at the Crossfire PrizeFight Challenge in Rotterdam. Dignitas shoot up the rankings after a very successful month which saw them take top 2 in both the Outpost and Crossfire Lans.

September also sees too new entries, Aeon.eSports and TooEasy. Aeon, a well known CoD1 team, shot back into the limelight with a victory over the experienced Logitech.fi team at the-experience.dk Lan but have had to contest with lineup difficulties since then. TooEasy have been around for a little longer but have also shown their worth offline. A great run at the Outpost Lan saw the Italians formerly of Play.it narrowly lose to H2k and finish in a respectable 7-8th position.

With the EuroCup Lan Finals in Denmark fast approaching you can expect big changes in the rankings next month and maybe even a new number one. The voting method is explained on page 2 of the Gotfrag article but basically consists of taking votes from representatives of both the top teams as well as community sites that cover the game.

You can view the full rankings as well as indepth info on all the teams here.

Crossfire PrizeFight Challenge - CoD Results

It's been a long and hard event but I think everyone can agree it was a resounding success. Speedlink were toppled from their throne at last and as many predicted it was Dignitas who inevitably were the ones who could do it.

WHO Crew and kickR rolled back the years and surpassed all expectations in taking 3rd place but from the word go it was Dignitas making the headlines. After a surprisingly close playoff match against NWA, the UK heavyweights stepped up their game and absolutely steamrolled H2k to move on to the final with Speedlink lying in wait.

So began an epic affair spanning 3 maps that caught the atention of even the newest CoD fans. I was told last night by an avid ET player who shall remain nameless, "I don't know a thing about CoD, but that final was damn exciting!".

After losing on Dawnville, Speedlink were powerless to resist the force that was Team Dignitas and although they stalled it, taking a win on Toujane, there was only ever going to be one winner on Burgundy, the deciding map.

I would like to personally congratulate all the teams who attended the event and made it something special and of course especially the winners below. A big thanks as well to the whole admin team who really stepped it up all weekend and made this event almost trouble free.

I'd like to single out Raza in particular because although there were other guys doing an amazing job it was Raza who was working with me on the CoD tournament and his incredible work on the first day especially made my job a whole lot less stressful so <3 Raza. Congratulations as well to TosspoT who worked like a machine, day and night, for us all and without him the event could not have taken place as you all know.

Without further ado anyway, here are the winners of the CoD tournament and I think I speak for everyone at the event when i say a big thanks for puttnig on a great show!

1st Team Dignitas - €1,500
2nd Team Speedlink - €1,000
3rd WHO Crew - €500

Tournament MVP: Trainee (Dignitas)

Well done and see you next time!

CoD - Gotfrag previews the CPC

image: xfire_logo
Over at Gotfrag, Liam Crowley has written an indepth preview of the CoD2 tournament in this weekend's Crossfire PrizeFight Challenge. It includes a detailed look at each of the groups and a run down of the teams likely to challenge for first place.

Here is a small sample from the article...

QuoteAfter a long wait we are now only days away from what promises to be one of the biggest events for Call of Duty 2 so far this year. Featuring 12 of the very best European teams and held in the state of the art TGS Rotterdam, the Crossfire PrizeFight Challenge is almost upon us. Rivalries will be renewed as the beautiful city of Rotterdam plays host to the likes of Speedlink, Dignitas, digitalMind and more. With the last spot filled today after the announcement that Webone were unable to attend it looks like the stage is set for an action packed weekend.

The teams will be competing for a total prize purse of €3,000, one of the largest we've seen so far. We are likely to be given a good indication of who's in form as the EuroCup Lan Finals approach with both Speedlink and Dignitas in attendance. Both these teams performed well at the Outpost Lan last month and Speedlink in particular will need to avoid slipping up here if they are to maintain their aura of invincibility for the EuroCup Lan. Dignitas on the other hand will have to prove that their 2nd place placing at Outpost was no fluke and hopefully their recent victory at i28 will have helped their new lineup gel. Losing Qwerty in particular will be a big blow to the team as he was, along with Raz, a key figure for Dignitas at the Outpost Lan.
