Will the CB C&A changes make a difference?

"In the following days Clanbase will be implying a new rule, about Enemy Territory's GUID system. To reduce any guidspoofing and other excuses, since ETPro guids are totally unreliable nowadays, we urge you to stop changing your PBGUID (this is done by manually deleting your etkey in your etmain folder) Clanmembers / members with PBGuids newer than 2 weeks (not confirmed yet) will NOT be allowed to compete in any cup , or any ladder after this rules takes effect."

So will this make a difference? Will this lead to a cheat free CB, or is it merely an added hassle for the few remaining clean players?

im sure i saw some loly pb guid spoof @ yawn, like year ago or sth, but ehm
spoofing this shit will "only" be a matter of hacking pb master server and sending spoofed packets there, so i guess its possible, but only pro`s can do this


btw if its invisible @ yawn cb et etc, how the fuck will you get it to upload it to clanbase site? :D

that's yawn spoof, not pbguid spoof. coding an application that sends fake info to yawn takes no more than 20-30 minutes to do, maybe less. the real guid was not spoofed

Once people understand that they have to back up this 67 byte big file file they will also realize how easy it is to create an extra PB GUID or three just in case they "need" another one in two weeks.

I actually have a spare one from 2003.

Its not like on publics where the server checks the age of your guid (hi Hirntot and Hirnlos fans). Unless you register three CB accounts, backing up older etkeys wont help you. I also want to thank Netherlands Hope for lending me his etkey in the two weeks after the rifleaim irc drama in which i deleted my etkey and couldnt play Hirntot anymore :'(

only usefull if there will be a lua checking the pbguid @ cb, otherwise it's useless because you can't check full pbguids of other players.

well i am having my same pb_guid for more than 2 years now... i was to lazy to reinstall ET on my new PC and therefore simply copy'd the ET folder over to my new PC... (did the same with Quake3 also btw...)

So tbh i can't really understand what all that whine is about... everyone has a usb-stick or usb-hdd nowadays... if not burn ur fucking etkey on a CD or send it to urself via email...
