Are you in favour of in-game advertising?

Google has recently announced that it will be venturing into the gaming world via Adsense which means gamers will experience video, image and text advertisements. John Carmack of CEO Id Software has stated "If it is successful, we've tossed around the idea of taking the Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory game (which was actually always more popular than Q3A in the online space) and doing a similar treatment on it with the experience we've gained here".

depends on how much bandwidth it will use, I don't wanna lag because my game is loading 10 google ads.
Where goes the money?..
to the people who put the advertisements on their servers
Parent
Undecided

i don't care aslong as it doesn't cause lag/fps problems/...
I don't care tbh, if it's like advert boards on the sides of building then it really doesn't affect my playing that much.

You can always block the ad server, or just tone down graphics
agreed, as long as it's integrated into the game properly & the ads fit the scenery then it does in way help the realism
Parent
dont rly care.. et already lags alot soo extra lag isnt that important :XD
If it's not completely overt and results in more free shit then yeah.
Google ads in a WW 2 game? Seems realistic.
3/4 headshots to kill people is realistic?
Parent
Why have good gameplay when you can have realism!
Parent
yes realistic
Parent
trust me, they'll find a way to fit it in
Parent
This amazing 5 man panzer kill was brought to you by Google™!
Parent
haha, that would be nice though :p

care care care
No No & 999999999999 No
If it doesnt make me lag and interupt the game, I dont care much about it. Just put the ads on destroyable boards so we can always break them when we dont want to look at them!
yes, free games with ads.
i don't know if you realized it, but some people actually pay money to keep this game kinda alive by hosting servers and websites.
Parent
I dont mind as long as it doesnt cause lags.
Yes, so long as it's sympathetically implemented. For example, billboards in a game advertising real life products that actually fit in with the game would be fine; if they contain white-and-blue google ads or anything that just doesn't mesh with the tone of the game then they could really wreck the feel and be really bad. Seeing adverts for a video card in a WW2 game would suck, unless they were really well done specifically to fit with the era, for example.

Product placement in games (like having the computers all running software by Cisco ala 24) is fine too, so long as it's not too blatant.
Like need for speed has banners and stuff ingame, when you're riding
Parent
Iam against that.
If it means that ID will take ET back and improve it, YES!
If it basically means adding ads to it and doing nothing more, NO!
totally agree
Parent
Don't Care.
never bothered me in CS
don't care
Don't care.
i dont care if i have an Adidas symbol next to my ET face, it would kinda look cool or professional :D
I don't really want penis enlargement ads popping up during my pwnage killing sprees.
I say yes If it has negative effect towards communism
I dont give a fuck
if it helps the game or the community in any way im behind it
hell no
don't care if it doesn't affect the game
if they would support the anticheat part, fix pb lags etc, yes!

Otherwise no! :P
lol? my english skillz failed at understanding this :[
add option: as long it doesn't effect my playing, i don't care
DON'T FUCKING CARE
yes if they actually use some of the funds to make the game better
care option today
as long as it doesnt lag you, Dont care :)
idc

i am not in favour on advertising what so ever....
CHARGIN MAH LAZAH
more money into games, so yes! 3 weeks ago i read an article in the papers concerning a company that deals in this. They were starting to get more and more request so i especially sports games and race games can look forward to real life sponsors ingame
In online games, I got no problem with them at all.
Yes, if it brings advantages for the gamers as well (cheaper games, higher cash prizes or something). If its just gonna be more moneyz for the developers, no thx.
random google adds + lag + pop ups in game = fail.
google adds with game shit + no lag + adss in loading screen = win.
yah gd idea
As long as they use the money to improve ET then I would support the move.
Haha like Obama on Burnout Paradise XD
In ET? So that people can download and play it for free, but with ads?

Great idea...
well, i hope that if they will make it then it canbe removed with a command if u didn't like them and from the aspect of moviemakers i think it sux ass : D
so if they do it and gain money from it then they should put at least some money from it to the very same game to improve it but i guess it will never happen
dont care aslong as it won't lag me more
yes, they can do it. If it will not lag more, and if they want to improve the game again with a new patch. But if it will be more laggy without improving the game, we can still play the free version without google ads or?
Don't care, but I think they would be perfect during map loading screen, instead of ingame shizzle.
Good idea, its was going to happen one day whether google did it or not (well it already does, but not in Euro games as much)
Google's team could write a better setup than pb in under 1 week. Let them advertise if they agree to replace pb. They could call it 'PuuBle'
If they take the same approach as they did with QuakeLive, then it will be great news for ET. Should cut down on the number of cheaters, the difficulty of patching and make the public scene more 'integrated'.
who cares...
As long as i don't see campaigning ads for a nagger.

didnt we already have this discussion?
Definitely yes, anything commercial in nature should help one way or another.
Only if they fit in, for example a Coca-Cola ad in CoD4 would be completely fine, but I wouldn't like to see that in a medival RPG.
