no hate intended <3
But admins have got a lot better, and most just don't see all the work guys like krosan are doing for the community. the latest lan was a great event again, althought I didn't play myself I still enjoyed my time at the lan center. And who do we got to thank for that? THE ADMINS!
Now I think this site just needs a better search function. And people should start acting human again on crossfire, but that is something that is up to the community itself.
Edit: Quality of movies get's better every year. If we vote for quality again with a movie like FragArea 3 it would be 7 or something. And everyone knows it's one of the best movies ever! After all, it's all about the feeling you get watching a movie!
I would give FragArea 3 a rating of 6 / 10 in Quality at most. Didn't quite entertain me that movie. Can't spot why people thinks it's any special.
The Design is quit good, but it is lacking some modern functions or layout, needs some updates so it doesn't outdate itself, maybe the ability to put the journal/poll/forum/news/interview/comments section to wherever you want, like GamesTV's function available in the profile, the Crossfire header needs some change it is quite old now, also try to fix the "Scaled" design, images do not resize automatically, and maybe fix the ad positions or scale them so there aren't any "black places filled by nothing except an advert in the middle" (4:3 advert in a 16:9 background), rest is fine. Maybe fixing the Journal section or fixing the other sections, you can see who posted a journal, and you can see who posted a comment in the comment section (by placing your cursor on the comment, the name will pop out) but this isn't available in the forum&news section, would be nice to see who posted a newspost/topic without needing to scroll on it.
Anti-Cheat Policy needs some updating, there is no clear rule about being a netCoders customer, how long do they get banned? I suggest a 2 year ban as considering most customers buy a bot to cheat in (official)clanwars, which technically would result in a 12 month CB Ban if we could legally use the info to ban them, and since Crossfire double CB Banlenghts, 1 year X2 =2 years, now there are different subscriptions of nC, you can be a customer for 1 month, 3,6,12 etc, there needs to be more clear rules about this, (example if they get the same punishment or not), also the "playing with a cheater" rule needs to be updated (for example what proof should be shown in proving a guy is playing with a cheater, and how can he prove he knowingly knew etc) i cant remember the last guy who was banned for this rule, think it was duNz and he didn't server the 3 month ban afaik, can't remember anyone who did except the FF team.
Rules are fine, freedom is speach is bliss, but there should be a clear line about to what extent (example personal flame/attacking admins other players etc), also the language rule is annoying, we live in 2010, and everyone should be able to speak english by now, these [GER][FIN][POL] Journals are annoying, why cant they write it in english? this is more annoying when someone posts [GER] in a forum topic. Youtube should be fixed, think it is pretty normal that ppl are posting them, they bring attention and ppl like them, if someone posts an old journal, he will prolly get flamed by the community, its "Crossfire's" natural cause, and the poster will prolly delete the journal if he gets flamed, or he won't post an old journal again, no need for overmoderation, mods should only take action on excessive spam, flame, porn and racism. Don't overmoderate, cos things such as chains or new CF memes might be fun, and make CF interesting, we dont need overmoderation to make cf boring, this is crossfires success to have such an active userbase addicted to crossfire everyday, entertainment.
Admins are getting better, the overmoderation was sick a few months ago, getting warned/banned for posting random pics or logs, don't remember about any flame on an admin for some months now, so its pretty good now.
the day was over, when you finished this text or?
say hi to google translate
the only problem is ofc admining them
The foundations of the site design are fine, you don't need to go excessively modern for the sake of being modern. The banner could do with a change and some of the neat updates Fusen brought in prior to the big crash could be returned. Movable blocks is nice but iirc it's a large undertaking and it does detract from the admins control over what the users see / prioritise. Each block is placed where it is for a reason.
that is of course
IF YOU HAVE OPERA
e.g.
We already had a forum thread with shitload of suggestions:
http://www.crossfire.nu/?x=forum&mode=item&id=22950
Someone should hack something up with greasemonkey perhaps! :(
The admins have gotten quite loose when it comes to the random shit that gets spammed here.
Fags like banga who keep making these retarded journals just to get some attention make sick. Bans should be distribed more to these kind of people and not to the ones that posted 1 sentence in a different language.
Keep the same policy
Design is ok, could be better tho
Add "+1/-1" system
do you feel the same?
Admins just do their job, mazbe a bit hard sometimes but in general its ok.
Design:
Surely the most supposable option. Because it is just about coding some new stuff here and everyone would notice it. No big deal. I#d appreciate this option, because im somehow bit bored of the current one. New template would be nice.
anti-cheat policy:
I'd wish that cheater should get treaten how they deserve. Ban this retards for life and never let them come back. I dont care about cheating on a public server, because cheating is cheating and should get punished! Crossfire has become to one of the most important things for every Enemy Territory Player in my opinion and if you ban every cheater immediately they will get at least a bit afraid of this thread and cheating will decrease. Maybe not very much, but every percent is helpful !
Rules:[/u]
I think that they are fine. Just delete the old stuff like: Youtube Journals arnt allowed and the randompic rule... Because this is why i am visiting Crossfire nearly every day. To have a laugh and inform myself about some ET-News. I dont say that i just want to see hundreds of Youtubejournals every day with some senseless content. The current balance is admissible..Just delete the old rules ;)
Admins:[/u]
Nothing to change here tbh. Most of them are doing a great job. (expecting some stupid replies now, but idc)
Other:[/u]
Please add this fucking Cupsection and some new flags. Please man...We are waiting so long for it...and fix the seachfunction. i CANT find any new things there. I always see the same old shit from 2006/2007..and if i am searching for more words like: "aiming like raziel" then i want to search for all three words and not only for "aiming". Fix that please.
- razzah
My guess is that if we manage to get rid of all the cheaters, there might be a good chance of having some old schoolers coming back to ET.
Pretty much like GTV's reply function, so u see names instead of #Numbers.
Much better option would be to restrict what they can do (say stop them being able to post journals / comment probation) & highlight in their profile that X user has been banned for Y months for Z reason.
Kills two birds - cut could down on the number of fake accounts & also stops the banned cheaters going undercover. Most bans are timelimited not indefinite - so where's the logic in forcing them to create a new account, when they could just run out the ban on their old one & hopefully go straight?
More involvement in other games (on such a level CF is actually regarded as an asset to their respective communities).
maybe a highscore with some criteria like posts, journals, threads, bans, news posts,....
CF should adopt a stable anti-cheat policy with special admins just for anti-cheat section.
The design does feel a little dated, but on the other hand it's very functional in allowing you to quickly look at the latest news/journals.
Perhaps a less kludgey way for information about the latest Crossfire Challenge matches to be presented when there's a LAN underway. That giant box at the top that has been there for the last couple LANs is quite ugly. (Though, for that, the solution might simply be having a sticky news post with the information there, links to brackets and etc.). A touch more promotion of good tutorials would also be nice, as I find some great articles there.
Anti-Cheat Policy
I haven't been following anything that would seem to make this a controversy lately, I like how it's being handled now, with the one-year bans for people who are busted. If you ban them for life like people are suggesting, then they'll just spend time trying to create proxies and new identities to get around the bans, and will be less inclined to "sit in the corner until invited back".
Rules
Not much to comment on. Admins seem to introduce valid rules when needed, nothing un-just that I've noticed.
Admins
Seem to be mostly good people. Every once in a while there seems to be an abuse by somebody who lets it get to their heads, but those seem to be relatively isolated.
Functionality
Search needs an overhaul, as I think most people believe also.
I like the suggestion of hamstermgc a few comments above mine, of being able to comment on people's profiles, it would help the social aspect a bit. However, the user should be able to delete comments on their profile, lest we end up with tons of flames going back and forth, or people spewing falsehoods on the profiles of players they don't like.
For recent comments, perhaps the name + flag system that's on gtv? It's nice to be able to see who's making those comments, and then click-through if it's somebody that you know. :)
I'm a bit tired, so that's what immediately springs to mind.
+
delete movies with non-working links/mirrors or/and reupload them.
- Delete all perm-banned accounts + inactive acounts
- Design can be a bit more 2010
- Busted cheaters should be banned till they got unbanned
disallow useless journal spam
if crossfire will ask now for some new admins nearby nobody will do the job!
i cannot say if the admins make that great work or not because I don't visit the page everyday, but I can say that I wouldn't make it better, because I wouldn't had the time to do the job.
dunno if its possible ?
- get a better search function since its utter crap
Anti-cheat policy: Lifetime Ban for Cheaters/Ex Cheaters
All these nerds will get banned!
"UNBAN ALEXL"
?
"Show votes"
I see loads of lifetime bans incoming for those who voted admins :D
Functionality which Killerboy spoke of would be great.
The rules should be specified for every possibility (stable!) and followed. I heard of cases where a cheater has been unbanned because he was an admins friend. Now, what if you are an unknown to the admin? You have to serve the full ban. And what if you are a foe of the admin? He'll ban you for longer than you should be banned normally. The rules need to be described and available to the public, so everyone can see whether an admin judges reasonably or not. Make the new rules more strict and apply them faster than you do nowadays.
Perhaps make only one person responsible for banning cheaters. He would have to apply the same rules to everyone, even if they are his friends. Of course if the above rule will be applied, such a person is not really needed, but if there won't be such a rule, than I think we should have such a person.
After changing the rules, delete all permanent banned and old inactive accounts as this would be the perfect opportunity to do that. Most cheaters made a new account anyway by now.
Not so needed, but still nice would be a rule to require linking to your accounts on other ET concerned sites like CB, ESL, GTV and so on. That would make the banning so much easier. Send out a warning that every account without valid links to your profiles at that site will be banned for some days (or a access lock, so you will have to enter those data before being able to access your account ever again) and then eventually deleted. This could be achieved by the need of specifying whether you're an ET player or not. Guid / Yawn integration (need to specify your guid) would also be very nice.
Introduce a 5 star movie rating system.
Improve the search function. Well, I think you would need to code a new one considering how pathetic the current one is.
Add a cup-section.
Add a preview before add option, to see whether there are any mistakes in the markup tags, spelling and so on.
Try splitting the profiles into two categories (profile and details, like at Cadred.), the current accounts allotment looks too messy.
Perhaps make a comment counter thing right after the topic / journal name, so you could see what is really popular at the moment.
Don't split long topic / journal names into two lines. Make it like on Cadred with three dots after the maximum character count.
That's how the crossfire cheat policy looks like to me to be very honest!
And that was not the only point I made. If all the effort went into you responding me to just one single point, than I am very disappointed, but not the least surprised.
I also stated an eventuality to what to do if you are not capable of creating a rule set like it should be done:
Perhaps make only one person responsible for banning cheaters. He would have to apply the same rules to everyone, even if they are his friends. Of course if the above rule will be applied, such a person is not really needed, but if there won't be such a rule, than I think we should have such a person.
And I would recommend Killerboy to be this person, if he wants to, because that would make his work at CB easier due to being able to do faster cross references (he wouldn't have to wait for a CF admin to do that for him), ban cheaters at two sites at once and so on. And that would be of great profit to crossfire too.
I only replied to the one point as I couldn't give a flying monkey about the banning of cheaters on this site - it serves no real purpose but if it makes people feel better then fine. I'm not fussed either way ^^ the rules for the banning of cheaters is a different beast entirely to the general day to day rules of running the site...
I don't think you can offer another, as there hasn't been :) sol be near dictatorial on this shit...
Here's a thing which got nothing to do with this case, but could you explain to me what someone would have to do to get his account banned forever as I couldn't find anything about that in the rules.
I'd imagine Night would be banned the same as any other, as countless other known players have been.
Now you can't permanently ban anyone from the internet. Flaming tosspot usually sees your account banned for good - beyond that you'd need to ask the admins.
Why do ppl spam journals 24/7? Why is twitter / facebook so popular amongst adults? Basicly these social network sites are like crossfire, ppl spamming away their own unimportant lives, sharing it with other unimportant ppl.
Why do I want to use crossfire when I'm banned? Not to read journals, or the epic content (cause seriously, there isnt much, there never was much, dont take this as an insult). I do need crossfire if i want to contact ppl, send them a message etc.
Give crossfire more facebook like features and make it into a facebook for gamers ( kinda what it already is for the ET community)
And btw, for crying out loud an reddit like features where ppl can contribute content and have some filter / sorting of that content unlike the journals which is one big heap of bs and the only filter / sorting you can do is jump into the cloud. Top down media (where few ppl decide what is news) is 2003. And no, just allowing anyone to contribute isnt the same :p Its like Web 1.5 or something.
And how many times have I heard "@ lan he was a nice guy, nothing like he is online" - what makes you think most people don't like the relative anonymity?
That is all.
1.) get rid of _b A n g a_, he thinks he is funny, the poll about biggest xfire retard prolly gave him a boner.
2.) dont delete journals too quick, journals will disappear anyway
b) crossfire servers with trustworthy admins and a zero-tolerance to cheaters!
http://www.crossfire.nu/?x=user&mode=view&id=9096
http://clanbase.ggl.com/humaninfo.php?hid=2779672&suspend=1
2) I see people spam and post utter bullshit everyday without consequence and it's usually always the same group of people doing it. Warning points aren't going to stop spammers, infact most of them brag about having warning points because it makes their e-peen bigger. I suggest you stop warning and start banning.
Just a thought how layout could be a bit different, would need new graphics too though.
A good example of really good looking site is www.fnatic.com.
keep the good old cf-mood
i really do not like it :-/
search function.
Oh and add some clanless section like on IRC(!cless) where anyone can join the 'clanless team' and any team recruiting can take a look.
How can I chnage it back to normal font size? Looks like someone tried to play with the site design :))
Also what sol said an age ago on the admin side - a sliding scale of punishments. Restrict profile / journal / comments / etc.
Like the one in facebook.. if someone knows that.. :D
and
Build in a "Change name" function..
Already exists:
http://www.crossfire.nu/?x=user&mode=changenick
Also good function for the site would be, people that are member for some time give them the ability to moderate in points. For example flames get -1. Neutral posts, get 0. Good usefull posts get +1. And add filter next to that, atleast if you got 300 comments than you can filter out the bad ones. But i am not sure if it will work with this community.
And most important, we need ignore function.
GIMMEH MAH YERMAN BACK :'(
