The world is gazing down the precipice of a new era, a new future - change. There's a shift in the landscape of the laissez faire heading our way – no, I’m not talking about the incoming Obama administration or the credit crunch; but the future of Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. The AntiPro developers have created the opportunity for this community to once again shape the direction of their game. They’ve sparked a heated debate, one not seen since the days of XP removal, prone delay or spam limitation, and we should learn from the past. The list of requested changes varies from the minor, to the profound, but they’ll all have an impact on the game we’ve enjoyed for so many years.
In such sensitive times, it’s important the right decisions are made and a consensus reached.
The first move should be to remove the disparity between the ClanBase, Crossfire and ESL configs. People should take a step back from their dogmatic positions, and adopt the conciliatory road laid down by frop all those years ago. The hierarchies of ClanBase and ESL may be at war, in competition, but it needn’t be the way at our level. We’re all volunteers, aiming to serve the same purpose, merely exploiting the resources offered by each respective organisation.
The initial priority should be a standardised European config, from the minor one day cups to the Crossfire LANs. I, here and now, challenge the league admins to begin implementing this – or, if proved impossible, to publically explain their reasoning not to. If this cannot be achieved, what hope is there with a range of new variables heading our way? Only then can real progress start to be made.
Once this has been completed, and a working dialogue between the main organisations created, they should then tackle the future. What do we want from the new mod? What gameplay changes? What bug fixes? What improved features? Where to start?
In doing this, a ‘working group’ should be established, an expansion on the current in-house discussion. Canvassing the top players, the league admins and the masses through columns, journals and debate. As ClanBase Supervisor Cash successfully lead such a dialogue – the current crop are more than capable of following his lead. Discreet discussion within various admin channels (as is already happening) should no longer inflict their vision of fundamental gameplay changes on the masses. Especially when such changes could prove divisive, further splitting and harming the community.
Only with a clear direction can the community give the AntiPro devs a working vision. We’ve a motivated and seemingly skilled team, let us enable them to do their work, and enable us to continue to enjoy the game we’ve come to love.
The debate will be heated, as has already been within the first poll on the subject (nearing 400 comments), but it’s a debate that should be heard, and one that needs to see strong arguments made on both sides. Put your case, put it strongly, put it intelligently and help shape the future of the competitive scene for years to come.

Where to now?
Nowhere, we're all waiting for wolfenstain2! - anwsered voice of the community
- trying to save et
- trying to kill et
trying to make et more like rtcw
- trying to make et aim only
- removing spam
primary teamsize changed to 5v5 - OH PLS YES! Finally everybody must understand that its little change but it can help scene to grow and less waiting and less organizing!
but the ban should expire soon. this year I guess :p
if this is gonna pass I care about the other rules cuz that's gonna save et
-> riflenade disabled, damage increased
..this is not about people..this is about power..
- removing the nade hitsounds
- adding those punkbuster exes which make et almost unplayable (for me atleast) since its causing huge lags in very important situations only
- removing xp system
just watch some old demos and compare a match from the past to a match from now and u ll
that almost all the things that made et special are gone
*edit* + it was fucking spectecular seeing all those multikills :p
But if it's such a gripe, 'n you've enough that agree - why not do something? Admins would listen if you had a fair few teams on side saying "we won't play your comp this season unless x map is included / removed"...
and ye, I think more than 50% of the ec players nowadays have never ever played oasis in a 6on6 and dont miss it :p
I'm a bit torn on oasis, it can be the ultimate ET map - but not for any period of time.
and apart - you can still see the xp raising while you hit smoeone with artylery.
and apart - you can always use your brain to get to know if you have hit someone or not ^^
i just enjoyed hearing the hitsounds and i whould like to get em back for public gaming at least.
They have always done their own shit and didnt really care abou the game itself. Just their publicity.
Has ETAce already proven itself? Has it already caught cheaters? Is it really that different from the normal ET pro with PB.
I haven't noticed any differences between both. I think we should wait untill we see some real improvements (cheaters/lag etc..)
Lots of etpro changes where initiated by CB sups.
Nothing against CB or ESL admins but I think the overall community cares more about this game than some CB sup nowadays.
i hope its good ;<
It was possible in the past, why shouldn't it be possible now?
I agree that Europe/ESL's config settings are better than CB's one, or they could both associate with each other and let the best part from both settings to combine as one solid settings, so there wouldn't be any disturbance between them.
Somehow I find it vicious that all major cup-runners would do such a big impact when they go together. I think that the "product" itself would go done, even if your idea about that is great, I doubt it would work in reality. Yet I would give try for it,despite it sounds like communism for me, which I hate because of my principles.
Keep hitboxes same, It is hard to hit opponent on this new etace thing. Just keep it as a anticheat program.
Hopefully there will be some conservations about this issue, but hopefully it won't turn to be controversial and crucial one for our community.
The answer was
- We never remove mortar or mg
- autoaction including autorecord is not needed
- Maxpackets in 40-100 are fine
- Maxpackets and fps are working together, "get a clue first"
After that, we released our own, changed version of the previous clanwar config - which donex created before. I defintly have to admit that donex wasnt wrong about all these facts, but time has passed, and with a new mod and a possible crew motivated, improving the anti cheat issue and all these cups running, guess most people behind these projects are willing to use a global config again.
Just hide the record text, you'd never know o/
111fps/100 maxpackets = 56 packets
56 packets is the minimum you can force the game to send (Without using fps < 56)
which is why it's the most fair solution, since when you force 100maxpackets, people with better computers send less packets to the server (unless they force 100fps)
Question, is it possible to make a config which varies the maxpackets according to the clients FPS so the user will always get the highest avi hitability?
The first goal I had in mind when I took the challenge of creating the new sets (;p) was to bring back a global config set. After talking to doneX we unfortunately could only agree to use the same mapscripts which in the end was needed anyway.
All I want to say is that there may be different point of views about some settings but in the end we are open for a cooperation. How the compromises would look like may be cleared at another point of view.
(You anticipated me btw with this column :p)
or even that just one is allowed i dontr care if its 100, just that all players have the same
If you play with 125 fps / 100 packets there will only be 63 packets send.
Play with 76 fps / 100 packets and there will be 76 packets send.
the point of the game is 6 man medics with 3 hs only
