fine dining

after a discussion with friends on vent about this recently, i'm curious how many of you are interested in fine dining (by which i mean michelin star, gourmet, >£25 per person usually)

it's something i'm just starting to get into and take quite an interest in, but few of my friends are interested in it (bar two, one an aspiring chef and one just interested like me) and from what i know, few people as a whole are interested

is food more than fuel to you?

if so, what do you like to eat? where is the best place you've eaten and what did you have?

when i think of fine dining i think of small portions, and there are not so many "fine diners" in Slovenia, i think it will boom up in a few years (idea!)
what do you mean with fine dining=
Gordon Ramsay type of fancy restaurant

Depends on where you live at but I can assure you that going to a chic restaurant with two or three friends (4 people is the maximum including you) creates a very special atmosphere, you just feel good being there, in a great place, with a great meal and friends as happy as you to be here !
I enjoy it every time it happens !
Went fine dining after an exam with the boys. Big dirty medium rare steak with Guinness all round, image: IMG00013-20110110-1713
I am presuming that is just for your bill?

Me and my otherhalf try to go out at least once a month. Got a lovely Greek restruant near us which is more or less around £30 per head excluding drinks. (Starts is about £5, Main course around £20 and Dessert ranges from £5-15. Drinks are normally £3.95 a beer or I think a glass of house wine is £3.50ish)

If they don't have a table we settle with a nice chinese which is a fixed menu, 5 courses, for £25 per person. That again excludes drinks.
Also, the Jamie Oliver restraunt in the city near my place is quite good. Reasonable prices if you choose the special of the day. About £20-25 per person inc drinks

Parent

Parent
looks really good man, just checked their website

what did you eat?
Parent
dont remember :X some lobster menu, like 5-6 courses
Parent
Well, the normal evening is around 5-12 aperatives, then same in the local gourmé-restaurant and a 6€ pizza (7€ if feeling rich & kebab-hungry) on the way home (alone).

Or, you can just skip the pizza and eat leftovers at home.
yh food is mroe that fuel! its my life.

on a serious note, portuguese gastronomy is absolutely amazing, my favourite meal is a " francesinha" and my favourite restaurant is "capa negra"
i go out with my girlfriend like once a month/two months, usually costs me 50e, including drinks
So you are following: Antony Bourdain's no reservations?
food / going out for a dinner is one of the few things I 'waste' my money on. but I don't go to michelin star / gourmet restaurants, cause I dont see the point in spending 200 euros per person for a meal.
they're not always that expensive...i'm going to a michelin star restaurant on friday called turnell's of harborne, it's 25.50 for three courses & amuse bouche e: (lunch menu)
Parent
yeah might be there is also those special offer days or something. but the michelin star restaurants here are like 80 euros at least only for the 4/5 course menu... and then you might wanna get a bottle of wine starting from 40 euros, water, espresso and such.
Parent
expensive shit ;D worth going on a special occasion if you're interested though
Parent
Theres a micheline star restaurant in my town, but i prefer a no star decent italian over this shit..
paying big money for little food is ghey
That's why you belong to the lower class.

*Moved to

And yes, I am saying that!

what one chooses to spend one's money on does not determine one's 'class' or socio-economic status
Parent
Sometimes I would like to go to place which it is more expenisive. I work at a restaraunt that is a bit on the expensive side and usually the costumers are retards cause they think they know everything cause they're rich :D
And you are their slave, doesn't that make you the retard?
Parent
Meh I dont care I usually walk away with $200+ dollars depends on the night of tips with only 4 hours of work.
Parent
I'm just saying.

The nicest? Probably http://www.devere.co.uk/our-locations/oulton-hall.html

I don't know how much the meal was (private dinnerparty type thing) but I think it's typically ~£200/night for a room there so I can imagine it was pretty ridiculous. Tasty tasty food however I don't think fine dining is something you can really afford to pursue on a student loan!

ps: hitting Birmingham again next week! =o)
i'm going to HMV on wednesday next week if you wanna meet on a night out! if you wanna do something generally text me/baggiez and i'm sure we can arrange something!

and i work so my income is well above my loans...not saying it's something i could do regularly, but i can afford to go once every month or two if i wanted to eat somewhere nice!
Parent
i think the plan is wednesday, snobs then maybe subside. only got one lecture on thurs and really doubt i'll make it back for it so might be around thursday aft (depending on if my friend from uni comes with or not) for a chat if you've got the time! shall text when i know more x
Parent
well u shud go to zwolle then, 3michelin star restaurant at ur service, u might wna take half a year for reserving a table tho
Not remotely interested in fine dining, (I eat healthy). I've eaten at some pretty fancy joints before though (hotels etc), http://www.shanghaiblues.co.uk/ one of the pricier places I've been to.
I like food, but I don't like spending a lot of time at the dinner table. :)
WOULD NEVER DO THAT
I was in this conversation before! :D
baggiez mztik and i had a similar one more recently

:( I'm missing out by the sound of things
