muai thai workout

hey, so at friday I've got my first muai thai traning and can't wait for it! But Im a bit afraid, anyone of you got some experience with sport like this? I mean I spent last 2 years on the gym and Im pretty sure that gives me some predispositions to martial arts but I think in muai thai things like physical effort, endurance and condition are way more important than strenght. Anyone of you know how the training looks like? For already 2 weeks im trying to prepare myself for this - every day im running about 8 kms, trying to do things like pushups, a6w workout and stretching out.
cheers! Waiting for some answers

Parent
ask FranceSnatix
dude , you done enough.

theyre not gonna punch you out in the first training, theyll take it easy
country : Poland , I would not be so sure... :)
Parent
jsut wanted 2 point the same ( I see the guy above me already didi it )
obviously there shouldn't be any full contact & sparrings @ full speed @ first months

btw
U can go outside & lowkick some trees like Vann Damme did
yeah Im sure there won't be but still I want to be in the best possible shape! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tulJG5ypdsY this guy is going to be my trainer so I think trainings will be sick hard!
Parent
My friend's trainer = Ramon Dekkers, THAT is sick training :o!
Parent
just cut yourself already!
muay thai is some kind of kickboxing right?
Maybe you will even start in a beginner class ? And if u aren't than it's just what WakaFlockaFlame said :D
run, run, run. Legs, stamina are more important than hands etc.

Dunno how it will looke like, i trained mma 1,5 year (contains muai thai) - for first few months - a lot of technical and running.

Watch out for injuries - i got problems with both knees, huckles and hands (wrists and few muscles)

gl with it
"every day im running about 8 kms, trying to do things like pushups, a6w workout and stretching out"

you'll be fine

i do muay thai twice a week (90 min sessions) and have done for some time now

we usually have something like

20 min warmup (running, plyometrics [pushups, squats etc.], stretches etc.)
15 min conditioning (random bodyweight exercises like frog jumps, sprints etc.)
40 min technical (clinch work, slow pad work, defense, movement, counters etc.)
15 min circuits (high intensity cardio - 60 seconds right kicks, 60 seconds left, 60s knees, 60s straight punches, etc.)
show me ya body <3
Parent
haha it's nothing special
Parent
looks fine, your body get ripped?
Parent
not yet but i'm getting there!
Parent
how long you've been training ?
Parent
i did muay thai at firewalker ( http://www.fwc.uk.com/ ) for around 6 months a few years back, but never stuck to it

i started again around late september so around 5 months now, i was pretty overweight when i started though! i'm not really fat anymore, but i'm definitely not 'ripped' either - strong, with reasonably good cardio but i'm still a fair way from defined

i also do 3x90 min sessions a week btw
Parent
mhm so eleven months and your body didin't get ripped? i mean things like abs and shit
Parent
the 6 months i did a while back were good, but i gained weight again when i stopped doing them

'getting ripped' is really more about a controlled diet and making sure you burn more calories than you consume

in the past 5 months i've lost fat and gained muscle though

if you want abs just make sure you're not eating too much, and keep up the cardio/thai boxing

bear in mind that muay thai is a killer workout, and far more fun than 60mins+ on a treadmill/bike/whatever, and will also teach you how to defend yourself
Parent
and no sparring session, wtf ? :D
Parent
more recently we started doing light sparring in the '40 min technical' part i mentioned, but normally only a few of us stay after sessions to spar for 15-20 mins
Parent
That's kinda strange :O
Parent
there are only a few who fight interclubs/semi-pro etc., it's not a very advanced group
Parent
shit comment:

how do you know soo much and you are still a fat ass? :o
Parent
i sit and eat cake while everyone else trains :D
Parent
hell yeah :D but tbh training is a hard thing, specially because "you" need motivation, which is hard if you go alone...
Parent
Same kind of training, but making sparring sessions more. But if you are not fighting in competition, you don't need it.
Parent
Not into muay thai but been active in kickboxing for some years now. You'll have no official matches till your trainers says you are ready for it. Also you wont get full contact.

Probably he'll start with some warming up, and showing you the basics of the sport. More like how to kick, hit and how to place your feet and arms when beeing in defense.

I got a shedule which is something different everyday. I'm training with a personal trainer because I don't like groups.
True about the proper matches, took at least 6-8 months before a first inter club here, even then that was dependent on how well you were training. But full contact stuff would come early on :-)
Parent
Depends on your trainer. In group they will mostly give you someone who's not that good and who can't hurt you that much. I was without a group and asked for full contact the first day LOL. Never should've done that
Parent
Here we'd have 3 mins training then we'd swap with the next person. So sometimes I'd be fighting noobs others people with over 10 years experience and had been training out in Thailand l0L Good practice though, esp against the teachers. ofc would wear decent gloves/head protection if you needed it and shin guards but wasn't always the case :'(
Parent
Never used protection. It will prevent you from getting used to the real pain in matches. I mean a leg hitting your head feels different with protection.
Parent
Our workout varied for warmups each time.
More often than not:
5 mins warmup doing basic running around and few sequence stuff doing various combinations of right-left punches and kicks, clinches etc.
Then we'd do 100 pushups, 100 old school sit ups (not some gay crunches) and 100 squats.
Would do more technical stuff after that then including pad work, learning new moves blah blah. I would end up doing a few more conditioning things like 100 low roundhouse kicks each leg to help with my shins etc.

Will vary from different places you go to as well. Some days we'd have the Bas Rutten MMA/Muay thai workout (google it if you're not familiar)
"100 pushups, 100 old school sit ups (not some gay crunches) and 100 squats."
you're doing it all in the one series?
Parent
Yes straight after each other. Could do them in any order as long as you smashed them out :-)
Parent
wow it has to be freakin hard to do 100 pushups, now Im doing 4x30 and Im tired as hell
Parent
It'll come nice and easy in good time :) Try doing 2x50, starting with your knees rather than full on pushups if you can't do it :>
Parent
dude, you will get used to it in a time. Believe me ;) Just prepare for blue eyes and broken noses :D
Parent
ready for this shit! :)
Parent
the first time your nose is broken let them remove the bone in it. Its easier for you
Parent
eh tbh i don't want to remove the bone lol, at least untill i will decide if I've got the future in this sport
Parent
than enjoy breaking it every god damn time :ddd
Parent
they won't prevent breaking a nose ;)
Parent
You don't get black eyes and broken noses at a training. :P
Parent
I'll give you an example of the training.

Warmup:
3-6 Mile run(for fighters and advanced students only)

Then as the beginners show up(the advanced students do this as well):
Weighted rope skipping- 20 minutes
Tire bounce- 10 minutes

Workout:
Calisthenics and conditioning(around 30-45 minutes)- Varies
may include:
Mountain climbers, push ups, squats, duckwalks, speed pad kicking, continouous knees, bag burnout drills, some olympic barbell stuff and other nasty drills.

Main training varies also: Pad work, Heavybag work, Speed bag, Double-end bag, Sparring(for intermediates+), Partner drills, other creative skill building activities that i can't quite remember.
for now it's damn to hard training for me, but thanks will try it after I will get used to this kind of physical effort!
Parent
Its a very nice sport! you'll gonna like it :D
I feel terrible because i quitted it to go to the military (big mistake)

In Muay Thai theres always splitted groups :)

beginners
moderate fighters
Gala fighters
profs

you'll always start at lowest ofc :D

My trainings sessions looked like this

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday

Monday and Wednesday technical course training

Monday
15 min cardio
15 min core stability
30 mins technical trainings arms legs and clinches

Wedsnesday
same with cardio and core stability
after that technical training with medium body contact (punches and kicks you feel)

Thursday
full 30 min warmup (sparring boxing only)
15 min of light sparring
10 min full contact sparring
5 min cooldown
Parent
I DONTS NEEDS EXERCISE CUZ IM IN SHAPE AND NATURALLY STRONG LOL WEAK NERDS
brazilian jiujutsu way better!
Na, that's just for faggots :D
Parent
+1, starting karate soon tho
Parent
dude thats so mainstream, better take MMA or something, way better for self defense trust me :D
Parent
that can be true but i don't need to defend myself anyways because none fucks with LORDI.
i want to do it for fun and it would be nice to learn some cool kicks :XD
Parent
You want to learn some cool kicks? Better check out some MMA videos, sickest roundhouse kicks ever ;).

Well, do whatever you like, it's your choice :p!
Parent
ye, thanks for the advice :) gonna check them out today when i have some spare time.
Parent
You're welcome^^.
Parent
I used to be mt fighter, as i remember first my training was so difficult i hardly went to my bus. first u must know basic movement and basic technics, however i wish u gl
My kickbox/bjj training pretty much looked like this

15 minutes warmup.
10 minutes of core muscle training
10 minutes stretching
10 minutes power, speed, flexibility, balance or endurance training
40 minutes technique training (alot of kickboxing and ocassionaly we took it to the ground
And at the end we sparred for about 10 minutes.

I got into kickboxing/bjj right after 2 years of intense fitness/bodybuilding and the extra weight I've gained surely didn't benefit me and I wasn't as flexible as most of the others but after about 6 months of serious training I got along pretty nice.

Anyway you'll be fine if you work on the stretching and keep running.
every polak here is mma/mt/muay thai fighter
Was loads of Poland when I was doing it.
Not sure if you can see this video though http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=1168359890301 guy from our club was a bit cocky and some polak kicked him in the face and knocked him out =D
Parent
im atk fighter but it's nearly the same. polakk is polakk right?
Parent
u have 2 be strong to steal daily
Parent
around 50% of the people in my classes are eastern european :D
Parent
you are not gonna make it!
ask bearboy :::P
good luck and have fun with your sport! =)
its nothing compared North Korean army training :)
used to train at ling ho gym with andy souwer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBPt9SrCPfY when i was a kid (he used to kick my butt though), lot of it was condition training since i also was a midlong distance runner no probs there.
Rest was mostlly technique training.
There's something sadden hidden inside you, the way you're nice and excited and past your gangster and shitty behaviors points out that you had a breakdown and realized stuff you didn't want to, and now you're trying to be different
dark inside of me
Parent
Just don't worry and go ahead, you're not going to a competition that's just a training :P
i hope they beat the crap out of you
Pain is an important part of training. Enjoy!
training for 1 year at one of the best muay thai schools in south germany. And it s hard, but don't worry.
get the fucking difference between going to the gym (having beautiful empty muscles)
and doing a sport !

One of my classmate does karate on a very good level (international), his muscles look just like any other guy, but i saw him fighting, his speed is just amazing, and the power coming out from his arms is amazing
Just to point out that bodybuilding is shit :D (greets to some sweden boy)
Tho i wish u HF !
