Most of you might not care about it, but once in a while i have to explain at irc what it is and stuff. University students have a tradition and a uniform... check the following video if you are curious enough.

no one is forced to, thats why there is some people "are called against praxe". Either way this is about meeting some people, enjoying/partying, tradition. It's really funny trust me, university would be very boring without this :D

what kind of academical standard can you expect from people
who expect the university to be one huge partyzone?
obviously the portuguese educational system isnt top notch, is it? :/

it probably isn't, but I think university time is a party time for large groups of people - also those attending _good_ universities - it's not just about developing your "read and be able to repeat" skills, not so much these parties but fraternities (usually the hosters of these parties) offer a lot of options to develop yourself which you wouldn't/couldn't get from just the university

I guess you just missed a opportunity to stay in cave :|

1st "praxe" doesn't want people to miss the lessons, this kind of parties have a special holidays week at 99.9% of universities..

2nd Portugal might not be a top country at education system, but trust me.. it's far away from being one of the worst... We have a high percentage of graduated people.. more than some of European countries...

3rd trust me, this is important for students.. it's about meeting other people, learning some life stuff.. opportunities that you wouldn't get if you stay home as "against - praxe" people :>

well tbh i like those traditions and the campus flair,and i got nothing against parties..hell sure i dont, but i also do know people who even if they dont have the potential to finish university,attend university nevertheless just for nonstop partying. i dont really like those people as they are just wasting the seats ..

and like in your video it seems that in portugal nearly everybody gets the chance to study (similar to usa) and this leads to many dumb people going to university which ruins the campus flair. when somebody connects university instantly with partying, this shows immaturity and lack of seriousness to me, which means those people or not made for study and will probably survive university for only a few months though.
however,im pretty sure, in portugal more people will get through though, as the degree of difficulty is lower than in germany for example.

well, that depends of what you are studying.. some degrees are kinda easy thats why their students have enough time to party and study.. some others are way to complicated (engineering).. but thats not the overall idea i think... because as i said, it's a tradition.. we have holidays for this kind of stuff... thats why we study till end of jun/jul xD

yet again, it depends... there is everything.. lazy ppl / party ppl / hardcore students...
and yes we have too much students :|
