Broken PC troubleshooting

This old warhorse is in trouble and in order to finish my movie I wanted to get it back up and running! I need some help working out and fixing the problem with it.

Firstly, the shuttle has taken many a bump on the road, its been to korea, LA, Dallas, Netherlands and more this is all before I learnt of the magical world of laptops. But the hardware should still all work!

However..I can boot it up no problem, go into windows even play ET but at some point I will hear this "click" on a drive and it will just skip a beat and shut down. I am confident that its not on my C drive but on my D drive which is a 10,000 RPM WD Raptor I am currently replacing the SATA Data cable, but what else could it be?

Is there anything that cud cause it to randomly shut down after this "click" type noise.

i allways had probs with them...had to change my hdd 4times in 0.5 year because i suddenly couldnt boot them anymore
Parent
maybe its not the disks? or was it Maxtor?
Parent
it was seagate..but somehow my mainboard allways lost the connection to the SATA hdd without any reason..so SATA is shit, atleast with seagate :>
Parent
it's just the way u use them --_

no sata is just fucked up..its like u shut down ur pc and wanna reboot and suddenly it tells you that u dont have any hdd in :/
Parent
Well, it sounds like your raptor is fucked. To find out if your drives are working, get this Western Digital Diag Software this will test your drives and not just your WD one.

If it fails, take it completely out of your system and it will stop crashing it.
it just passed the WD test after I changed the SATA data cable
Parent
And before you changed the cable?
Parent
didnt run the test before hand
Parent
Well, that tool is awesome, so it was either the cable or something else wrong in the system.

its prolly a hardware error on your hard drive, its prolly because its old, or has been damaged on your trips around the world. i dont think you can do much about it. maybe try to defragment it and check for errors, or copy all the data to another disk. and if that wont work, and if you really value the data on the drive i'd suggest that you take it to a shop and pay them to do a complete copy to another drive

i think thats all you can do about it

I got 2 WDs with 10000 rpm, and never had any probs like that

try error-checking on it or some hard-disk repairing software
I got same thingy with my old pc
When you play ET for a while you pc gets down

do you hear such as an amazinly stupid sounds comming out
of your headset?

I think it is the CPU, wich get's 100% and the window safety
just shut's down the pc.

btw.. I kocht/kauft/bought/gammala a new pc <:o).

gl, you need it
its bought, not buyed
Parent
