So why am I whining here today? At cpc it was really embarrassing to see CoD players setup in a mere minutes, whereas some ET teams needed over an hour before they could play. So what's the difference? After I bashed him in Quake, Nellie pointed out CoD players have ten times as much lans as ETplayers so they are bound to have some experience setting up their mouse, keyboard and headset.
But I talked to some CoD players and its not the experience. CoD players do not use windows hacks and other tweaks, simply because it is not allowed by any serious lan. So why not? Lets take a look at perfo. He's a bright kid, but the usbpatch that worked so well at home made the LANpc crash, taking 20 mins to system restore. Next came david. David is the kind of player that install windows, plugs in the mouse and starts playing. So after perfo was done playing with his ubertweaked-15-patches-pc david had a real bad game. Never having used any of the tweaks, david had no idea what was going on.
So what would be a practical solution? Only allow mousedrivers and windows registry tweaks. First of all, lets face it: its a lan. You are playing on a different pc anyway. Nobody flamed about the TFT's, everybody had the same handicap. Second, as long as the pcs can run 125fps there is no real need for high USBrate, besides most new mouse allow you to change it in their drivers. And windowsaccel? Well, you can get rid of allmost all the accel by using the good old raziel regfixes.
Would this be the only solution? No, but it is the most logical solution and the reason why all major lans only allow drivers and registry tweaks.

like ?
just restore a ghost after a game, only takes 10 mins
but it's better anyway huh ?
btw a ghost which just has windows and the games installed would take about 5 minutes to restore
You have a valid point there, mEIGHT. Sounds like a good idea to me.
Having 125HZ or 500HZ makes a huge difference if you're playing with some older mouse. Just check the esreality benchmarks and you get what I mean.
In addition I must say that I whined big times about the TFT which was black and white.
kheb u in de trein der gelijk over gegeven, dus ik zwijg nu
My set up took around 10 mins each time, and over half of that was spent trying to plug in my keyboard and mouse, I couldn't plug my mouse into the front USB panel, because then my USB key wouldn't fit in the one beside it. They could/should have had extension cables.
I'm assuming the CoD2 players weren't expecting to be able to patch USB, due to the fact that it's not allowed at other LANs, therefore they didn't try. We were, however, clearly told that we were allowed to do that.
Patching the USB port should take less than 10 seconds if the PC is set up correctly.
Nobody listened :'(
And the usbrate proggy did crash a lot of pcs :P
You can finish that sentence: because...
The sound problem was annoying because you were not able to go higher than 76 FPS unless you were using an USB headset, personally i prefered having the sound bug but playing with 125, so that's what i did.
Maybe it's illegal to use those tweaks in some big lans, so they (CoD2 players) are just used to it, but still there are mice like my diamondback that doesn't allow me to tweak its rate in drivers, this is changing nowadays since almost every mouse driver allows you to do that, but besides the rate problem, everything else is tweakeable by registry, and like someone up said, having 2 or 3 lans a year, it's not worth to change.
et , a computer hakcing game!!
It's totally different feeling if u try playing without accelfix when u have played with it last 2 years. I tried once and couldn't hit anything.
Also usbpatch does give different touch no matter what fps u got..
I think it's just a good thing if u can enhance your settings with such settings, and CoD players prolly suck aim-wise when u watch them :P
about quakewars, I doubt it will be very popular game anyway.. at least many ET players won't prolly play it :P
about mouse hz just like urtier said some of those older mouses give much more negative accel with lower hz
also everone i saw sol install haxs for sure.
Problems:
Mouse sens in windows was @ 5th notch not 6th by default on all PC's...
PC crashed after applying hz patch by raziel
Weird-ass resolution resulting me in not seeing my xhair, or seeing it kinda inverted
Couldn't put my keyboard on my lap because my keyboard cable is too short and the pc's were above tables =(
2nd game I already knew that 1440x900(lol) resolution works best with those monitors, and that after you applied hz patch, you have to reboot and select "Use last known configuration that worked" @ boot up. And as you know later they gave extension cables for keyboards! I was quite suprised, and also happy since now i could play like i play at home!
Sound didnt lag for me because i had my USB soundcard with steelsound 5hv2, and somehow even playing on a pc which had mouseware installed and some other junk i managed to uninstal it smoothly and set up my mouse like i want! Guess i was just lucky :P
