The effort I admire.. The plain stupidness that it will fail no matter what you try is something I simply laugh at.

If something could be so secure that you can't hack it, why would companies like microsoft or adobe not come up with it? And then I wonder "why would some mod-coders actually think they can do what big corporations like MS or Adobe can't?"..

it's simply impossible to do.

They claim that they have a system that protects the DLL's of the mod, cuz they say "injection of cheats is through dll's".. SURE but what protects the code that is protecting the dll's? and what is protecting THAT code.. and so on..

it's simply a no go.. pure and simple

I am aware of that, thank you. But our technology isn't really about that. Just take my word for it until you'll see with your own eyes. Why didn't others think of it? I'd say because it's applications are limited ( M$ and Adobe have a completely different purpose for their protection schemes - a much more general purpose - we simply want something else ) I don't want to reveal too much yet. You'll see when the time will come.

Yup, it's called money.


There is only so much you can do to make it HARDER for cheaters, but you can't make it IMPOSSIBLE.
Constant updates to the code that protects the injection of DLL's. Which in turn would drive your users crazy cuz they dont want to update so often.
Or callbacks to ETACE server to verify some stuff (which is easy to hack as well (See M$ genuine advance stuff))

Just face it. You are trying to accomplish something that no big enterprise with budgets racking up in the gazillions has been able to do or will EVER be able to do.
Not M$, not adobe, not the music industry or the movie industry not the gaming industry and most certainly not mod-programmers for a free game.

Like I said, I admire the effort but it's a lost cause.

It ET-ACE will prove successful, we'll move on to other games ;)

On the other hand: YES, IT IS MONEY. Trying to prevent others from stealing their functionality. Trying to prevent people who don't pay from using their software. Are we trying to do the same thing? No! We're trying to assure authenticity of the software the player is running. We have our ways ;) It's not like we're trying to gas u before the release date :P

In case you have noticed that is EXACTLY what the Genuine Advance protection of microsoft does. It tries to assure the authenticity of the software, and look how that turned out. It's the very same thing. The only way you can check for authenticity of software is by using software. See the nice little chicken/egg dilemma you got there?

Really, I hope you guys have the smarts to pull it of, cuz that would mean you'd end up a fucking millionaire. Hell, even Mr. Gates himself will personally visit you to offer you a job imo.

I was thinking about that, and noticed we should be thinking about patenting the idea. Unfortunately, patents are very expensive, and the way I'm seeing it, when we release everything, the technology behind it will become obvious, and companies might be interested, in which case nothing stops them from implementing it on their own :(

Some of the methods were discussed before coding even started (i.e. anti DLL injection), and are not on the TODO list because there are many ways to bypass it.

None of us ever claimed that it will be the best AC ever, none of us claimed it will STOP cheats, main goal is to make creating cheats harder than before (yes, that is something I can say 100% - creating cheats for etace will be harder than for PB or etpro), but it will be bypassed sooner or later - that is where frequent updates come in (not too often though so we don't cause a mess).

Also, for special events, i.e. 1day cups or similar, we can make unofficial builds to make sure (not 100%, but probably) that nobody is cheating in that particular event.

Well finally a normal statement towards ETACE regarding cheat-prevention. The general sense that has been put out is that it would make it impossible and that's simply not true, as you and I both know.

That still leaves the fact "is it still useful?"
I hate to admit it but ET is sorta running towards it's end now so I'm not so sure if a new competition mod is worth the effort or if it would even be adopted by CB / WL or independent cups.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't really understand how we made people think that cheating will be gone once etace is released.

Anyway, it is hopefully clear now. We will try to do our best, only time will tell if we will succeed in what we're doing.

P.S. It will be the first anticheat for linux version of ET (PB/etpro don't do anything on it).

But really.. it doesen't matter how many there are, adding linux support for our AC will not be much work.

Think about it a bit.. and then reply again. I admire the effort, I really do. But in my opinion it's never gonna work.

It MIGHT end up as the next competition mod and MIGHT revive the ET-scene a bit, sure.. but it will not be a mod in which it's impossible to cheat cuz that in itself is impossible to make.

this mod still needs a lot of improvement :(

- working hitsounds
- fast popups
- autoexec_map, autoexec_class, autoexec_team
- if possible, better (etpro) hitboxes + maybe antilag
- can't remember more, but I don't think that's all :p

If it really helps against cheaters, I would even play it without the features above... maybe ^^ But I'm not too sure about that...

edit: zomg u fragged me in that movie :(
