dsl speeds

my download speeds go down in the late evening because my ISP restricts traffic, especially noticable on torrents.

but i was thinking, i have DSL, not cable, so should we actually be getting what we pay for 100% of the time? otherwise whats to stop my ISP deciding to limit trafic to 20% for the majority of the time?

its BT (large UK company who own pretty much all the phone lines)

Same happens at portugal with Netcabo (nice portuguese company). They block the dl velocity to 30kb/s max :x

actually foonr i could have a long conversation with you on this but believe it or not BT are far from the worst out there, if you cant get any ADSL 2+ services then i recommend you switch to fast.co.uk, they are head and shoulders above everyone else for broadband speeds especially during peak periods since they dont do "ANY" restricting but they also dont give these "unlimited" broadband bullshit quotes, they set limits which believe it or not is what u want

and to note, if u keep downloading during peak periods they will limit your speed all of the time until the end of the month, its called putting you on the fair usage line ;)

its not the dll speed of your line which got limited its the bandwight of the backbone which have a limited number of capacity and if there are many users they share the bandwight between more users than during the day!

BT Total broad band never had any problems always banging out the same and never screw me over only have to speak to India people if I have a problem.

Hey m8 dont worry your not the only 1 my ISP does it as well but am not in a busy area so it dosnt happen everynight.

if it bothers you look for a very unused isp

actually on a 100mbit bubble but i can normally get 10mb even at peak times \o/ *gloat*
