GSM Frequencys

Hello i had written this nicelly done journal but i hit the backspace button and lost it all :D lets write it again >,<

Dear journal reader/no lifer. I have to hold a lecture on the proposed Google Phone, which is going to revolutionize the mobile phone industry in the U.S. and perhaps other country.

I have come into some difficultys in trying to comprehend the nature of the meaning of when some1 says that they are about to bid on a piece of the 700mHz range and say like 70mHz. What exactly does that mean, since there is a 400mHz range used for the old nmt standard etc.

700mHz auction will begin in january of 2008 in the US bidders like at&t and other shitty phone companys and then internet giant google will compete for this lucrative frequency which is beeing used now by the telecom companies in 2009 because of the mandate of all analog tv signals be send in digital mode and therefore not need the 700mHz range anymore.

Google's Phone service will be free, will be run like the usual google things on ads.

If any questions arise plz feel free to pm Loekino.

imo the mobile phone is to big
google hasnt gone public with it yet, it has to win that auction of the 700mHz range in the us first.

Unlike those fazist other us phone companies it wants an open standard

ads during phoning?!?
I can't really say how it will be implemented but i doubt that would be done, you would just see ads on the phone screen.

GSM network dont work atm @ 700MHz frequency (atleat I never heard of that network in eu/usa).
So if google will buy license for 700MHz frequency, they will need to design new network and then build that network. Imo it's useless.
Its a new thing, since analog tv is giving it up in 2009 its beeing auctioned up

allready read that but this thing is pussling to me
QuoteAloha estimates that the 700 MHz auction could generate between $20 billion to $30 billion for the U.S. Treasury. Aloha, which plans to bid for the 60 MHz of available 700 MHz spectrum, expects the auction to be highly competitive.

are they talking about the 700mHz to be from 0-700mHz then? Oo
a confused mr Gibri

1st. Don't write mHz anymore. It's MHz or Mhz. mHz means mili hertz, and that's totally wrong. (in case you also need to show slides or smth)
2nd. 700MHz band means some range of frequencies centered around that value. Since you said something about 60MHz bandwidth, I'd suppose it's something like 670-730MHz.
If it were to be 0-700MHz, it would conflict with existing bands, like FM radio (around 80-100MHz), plus in frequencies you should never say 0-something (unless it is a low-pass filter or something) since frequencies usually are used with logarithmic variations.
