you'd be surprised by how crappy some pizzas in italy are...

i once ordered a pizza with cheese (was like that on the menu) and all i got was the dough with melted cheese on it. no herbs, no tomato-sauce,...

in most pizzaplaces they don't even put in on the menu that it has tomato-sauce, because it's so goddamn obvious

Have to agree. After two trips to Italy, I think the pizzas there aren't anything special. Some were really good, though, but the overall quality was pretty average.

But then again, there are as many different variations as there are makers, so maybe I missed the best ones.

yep, that's true. the competition was America's Plate Competition and Finland won it leaving Italia 2nd

"Two Finnish guys from small towns like Turku and Vaasa show a bunch of Italians what a real pizza tastes like. The judges awarded the Finnish duo a total of 307 points for their smoked reindeer and mushroom creation, relegating the Italians to second place with 270 points."

anyway tho, was just one competition of many and Italian pizza still is the best pizza!

well it true, us is a big country and it certainly depends where u eat. I lived in us for a year and i liked their pizzas mostly. At some place they werent that good but in most of the places they were. I always said not to spray that grease on my pizza and it made the pizza a way better :)

italian ones were disappointing
american ones were better then expected (bigger aswell, got a 20" pizza last week :o )
