headphones?

well, my headphones have come to an end. it might still be fixable but I need to gather all my macgyver skills to fix it and at the moment I just cant be arsed.

now that I happen to be at helsinki, there are plenty of stores available, so my questions to you, dear members of the crossfire community are as follows;

1. What headphones are you using?
2. Which headphones would you suggest?
3. What do they cost?
4. pros and cons in them?

What I don't want:
- wireless headphones.
- headset - so it should be without a microphone.
- earplugs, eg. ipod earplugs.

thanks in advance for your effort.

EDIT: they should be good for gaming, but I would also take them with my iPod while travelling. I was planning on spending around 100 euros on them, could be bit more, but preferably around 100e

ipod ears are perfect if you need it in the first place for et
been there, done that. they are awful.
Parent
been there, done that. I hear EVERYTHING with that what I can here now at my steelsound 5H :) (i bought the steelsound because I needed a microphone and I wanted to have it on the headset and for better music quality)
Parent
yes you can hear nearly everything you need to. yet the sound quality isnt good and they are not confy at all.
Parent
comfortable
Parent
they fit perfect at my ears :)
Parent
they fit to some, but I cant even imagine them being more comfy than headphones. and I really dislike them, see aqute's post.

image: DUMBO
just kidding , dont ban :(
Parent
that's why I want headphones, I can hide my ears inside them while im out at public.
Parent
A headset will fuck up your hairdo!
Parent
that's true, unfortunately :(
but I also have nice emo-ish style that doesnt get fucked up by headphones and I can always just make my hair extra strong so that it doesnt get fucked up by headphones or any other thing for that matter!
Parent
Man, you need "extra or uber strong hold spray" that simply nails down your hair the way it is in order to make it stick the way it is if using a headphone :D emo or not!
Parent
yeah I got that shizzle.
Parent
I used to have these, Creative HQ-1500

i agree with spiroze.

i use my iPod ears and they're decent.

also: Sony tends to have good ears/headsets (without mic)

or Sennheiser, instawin with those
decent... just awful imo.
Parent
i guess that's personal opinion then...
Parent
they are usable, sure, but I would never ever even consider using them for longer period of time. as a short, temporal time I would (and I have) use(d) them
Parent
The thing is: what other phones have you heard? You seem to have nothing to compare with?
Parent
i have to disagree with Spiroze...the music quality sucks!
they dont stay in your ear when walking (doesnt go for everyone) and they hurt if you have them in for more than an hour. the quality gets even worse if you use them longer than 1 week. And last but not least...they are ugly and dont match the colored/black ipods
agree on everything but the last point. :) my ipod is black, they are opposite colors, fits. not to mention you have your ipod always hidden in your pocket.
Parent
Are we talking headphones or headset, what is the use of the piece of equipment?
obviously headphones, since I do not want a microphone attached to it.
Parent
Beyerdynamic DTX 800 are pretty good, but expensive :)
Parent
any idea of the cost?
Parent
They aren't that pricy after all, around 90 euros I think.

I got the wrong ones though, it was suppose to be DT 880. Here's a review: http://www.dansdata.com/dt880.htm
Parent
Dt880 is 260 euros. :l
Parent
sometimes you can get sound out of it
Parent
Well, I would recommend different headphones for different applications (gaming, music om computer, music from mp3-player, music while running with mp3-player, etc.).
Parent
Using the Sennheiser HD280 Pro for about 1,5 years now and they have not let me down so far. Bought them mainly for those noisy LANs back then. They are closed, means that they isolate almost any noise from the outside (also from the inside, ppl don't really hear what you're listening to, even if it's loud.) Because of that the sound quality is a bit worse than from most open headphones, but it's still good. Not great, but definately better than from any gaming headsets I've tested (Plantronics Audio 90, Sennheiser PC150, Icemat Siberias, Steelsound 5H).

They are also very comfy after a few weeks! Price is around 100 €.
after few weeks? :D so basically during 1st few weeks you have to suffer in agony and pain?
Parent
No, no :)

They are just holding pretty tight in the beginning. It's not that bad, but you notice it after some hours.
Parent
ye i understood :P had the same with my KOSS headphones.
Parent
Plz upload your config back to your profile, I need it xD

Edit: oh lol nvm
Parent
I have the same. Got to agree with what you said: HD 280 Pro is a solid set. Nothing fancy, but it sounds ok and is affordable. The sound quality is better than with my work set, Grado SR80, which is about 40 euros more expensive.

I hated my set at first because of the tightness, though. Luckily it wears out after a while.
Parent
You should try and get one of the newer Sennheiser models.

The sound quality is great imo and they're really comfortable.

edit: Bose also make nice audio equipment!
i find KOSS headphones quite comfortable/nice :) using mine for bout 2(maybe even 3) years now...so they i suppose theyre quite reliable
My friend has them and we tested the bass on some Death Metal/Grindcore songs - they are really nice :) Also I find the head-lock (well... the thing that makes them stick to the head) quite a useful thing.
Parent
spot on! :P the bass is really good(well this depends alot how expensive headphones u've bought/are gonna buy) i know the cheaper ones arent that good.
Parent
Bah dunno which version did he buy but the quality was satisfying.
Parent
the quality doesn't differ that much but u can hear a slight difference
Parent
just fix your old ones :(
I will, but having 2 headphones isnt that bad afterall. and they really require lots of effort on fixing, not just ducktape.
Parent
when my earphones got busted :p
i had to switch almost every part in it, had to dis amble it and switch weirs
they become even better ;p
you have 24 hours a day, fixing it will take you 30 minutes? start moving fatty ;)
Parent
11:58:20| <@decem> now the other earphone is loose
11:58:32| <@decem> and its been lose for so long that the wire has taken some damage
11:58:46| <@SL|unitier> you can exchange the wire without any probs at those here
11:59:00| <@decem> I mean the wire inside
11:59:11| <@decem> the wire from earphone to earphone
11:59:11| <@SL|unitier> ah
11:59:11| <@SL|unitier> duno
11:59:12| <@SL|unitier> :p
11:59:20| <@decem> it only needs some soldering I think
11:59:36| <@decem> then I would need to make a plastic holder of some sort
11:59:38| <@decem> lots of work tbh

I'd post pictures but im not at home.
Parent
look, as long as its not something on the chip(which you will need soldering iron) you are ok
post pictures later
Parent
I know, I do lots of fixing myself, I got soldering gun etc at home and I like to build stuff. got all kinds of systems fixed up.
Parent
=D
nice, when i was a kid i built lots of shits ^_^
bought the equipment and start building roulette, alarm clock, alarm clock with optic sensor that when he sense the sun he start ringing bathoven music :p
and also a clapper (the one you connect to the light and when you clap your hands it turn on/off) and many more ;)
now i learn electronic in school with a higher lvl, im working at a lab but its fucking boring
Parent
I was thinking of going to work for someone who does repairing of electronic stuff. just so I can learn better. I love to fix such stuff. I just built a home theatre set at school. its a huge shelf that has glassmirror doors. led backlights light up when you open the doors and there's a space for either TV or bartender closet. also I have speakers and bass integrated to it. it will include lots of more stuff when I have time go improve it.
Parent
oh you also some sort of a mechanic ^_^
i learn everything from my father, he was able to repair tanks in the army with no problems so fixing a shelf is no problems :p
i build also airplane models, i dont have pics avi so take some of me friends, we built the same things
image: 2704200583374
image: 250520055731
image: 0908200647135
and alot more, btw we built everything from nothing, we have big plywood and we cut it and make everything you see :>
and it fly magnificent !
Parent
nice mate ;)

my dad had these also, but then he discovered gaming :x
Parent
I have one of those aswell, built it when I was 12.

[FIN] Sennheiser hd555 maksaa 80e. Näillä ja hd 595 ei oo muuta eroo ku hinta. Nää on mukavat, hyvä äänenlaatu, basso ja kuulee ku pelaa. Emmä mitää miinusta näistä löydä tässä hintaluokassa.
Not correct, HD595 are better, all over. With decent source, they are miles ahead, but HD555 aren't bad, but not as good as HD595. For gaming, the differences are minimal that is right, but if you listen to music you notice the difference. I have owned HD555 too, and have listened to plethora of headphones.

HD600, HD650, HD580. AKG K601, Denon D2000 and so fort.
Parent
i got a random sennheiser, it's very comfortable and has very deep good sound. i suppose if you spend around 100e on a sennheiser you can get an awesome one :)
that DT 880 arachon suggested sounds so sweet, but I simply cannot afford to spend 260 euros on just headphones :p I'll talk more with urti later and prolly buy the senn 280 he suggested
Parent
urti solves everything

we should introduce 'ask urtier'
Parent
Parent
Sennheiser HD555, friend of mine uses this for music mainly (and gaming at times), quality is very good and it is very comfortable, it's closed as well
HD555s are not closed :-d
Parent
well not fully but most of it :D
Parent
they are 100% open headphones..
Parent
oh yeah i got it wrong indeed :D
Parent
sure earplugs or some bose headphones (not the cheapest ones)
Grado GS-1000

(any elite sennheiser or koss should be fine.)
sennheisers are prty good
I have a sony MDR-cd780 headpiece which I bought like 6 years ago for 125€, yet it's still awesome.

image: sony-mdr-cd780
I have USB Headset with Microphone which I'm supposed to use for my PlayStation 2. But since my Logitech Precision Gaming Headset died because of retarded "blond" sister... I'm now using that, only got one earpiece so it's not prefire useable :<
ill use this . . . awsome

1. BEYERDYNAMIC DT770
2. BEYERDYNAMIC DT770 (there are several editions, choose any)
3. A bit more than 100e
4. Closed, AWESOME ULTIMATE EPIC SOUND QUALITY (especially BASS), though they are too big for often usage with ipod.
btw every time i see some sound recording studio or a radio studio on tv, people are using dt770 there ;o
This homo has it right! Beyerdynamic DT770 is my suggestion.

I have DT880, which are open version. Very good, but DT770 give more bass, due their structure.

AKG K601(open) could be worth to check, so would Denon D2000 (closed).
Parent
Grado SR60 for music and Sony MDR-XD300 for gaming.
agree, I used them for more than 1 year and it was the most comfortable headset ever ! :D also quality is kinda nice, but not better than sennheisers (im using hd202 at my ipod and it's very good, but still the cheapest one of sennheisers imo)
1. sennheiser hd 595
2. sennheiser hd 595
3. ~140e
4. yes, they're pro
beyerdynamic dt440 is kinda awesome!
safe choice is sennheiser HD555 / HD595 in that price range
Beyerdynamic DTX700 / DTX800 / DTX900
Sennheiser HD280 Pro / HD555 / HD595
i use some shit of headphones wich were 14 € ( i dont know the name of them)
1. Beyerdynamic DT880 (I own Sennheiser HD595 also)
2. Beyerdynamic DT770, likely my next purchase :)
3. Depends, Pro version is bit cheaper, but 100e - 200euros
4.
Pros:
- Really solid soundstage
- Suitable for all kinds of music
- Low and detailed bass extension
- Build quality is miles better than with Sennheiser

Cons:
- They aren't the best looking phones around, but who the fuck cares
- Possibly not that easy to get for the right price

AND if used phones are an option, Sennheiser HD650 are great option for 180 - 200euros. I had those for a few weeks, loaned, but I had to return them. They require a headphone amp, that's a downside - to get best out of them.

Suomeksi, kyllä ne Beyerit vie :)
I'll try to find a seller for beyerdynamics, I'd like to compare DT880, DT770 and DT440 with each other.

Muuten, vieläkö tarvetta niille Cinema 4D lehdille? :)
