She indeed has a point but I don't think that Samuel P. Huntington's Clash of the Cultures and the perspective she mentions exclude one another, because what basically is summed up by her as the nations or civilizations that are back in the middle ages make up one of the cultures Huntington describes himself.
She generalised by stating that multiple Muslim states were "living in the middle ages". He counter-argued that Western civilisation had developed the idea of culture's clashing (and that this was their attack) not the Muslims, and that they're responsible for the situation we're in.
Her point was about each cultures standards clashing not the cultures themselves. The rights of women in a democracy compared to a Muslim state. Each country can still have its own religious and cultural identity but the most human rights will conquer the weaker/oppressive ones.
