tbh uve gotta play one for a few hours, and then all of the sudden it's awesome cuz u rly understand the game and all the possibilities. at first i didnt like it that much too, was kinda bored, not rly my type of game, but now since medieval2 total war I think it's epic ^^
you have to give it time - i have been playing the total war series since total war shogun and it really grows on you - but be aware if you get hocked then you have to be prepared to spend month of playing the games cause the shear endless possibilities are time consuming - many factions - endless strings of possibilities the game unfolds - and now you still can play medieval 1 then rome then all the expansions - medieval 2 and now empire at war ... so honestly dont start it if you only want to play from time to time cause that isnt gonna happen :P once you are in you stay in - like wow but a lot more sophisticated - cheers
I guess I just want to really get addicted because I don't have time for that and therefore I'm really careful about it.
I also have watched my friends play it since shogun but as I mentioned in upper reply, I never really tried it myself :p
Btw, some old nexus guys are running a BiO-like server and we'd need some players there every now and then, so u could join it also sometimes :)

Most expected game of the year for me and i didnt get disappointed. very n1 game. Love the new battles on sea and when it comes to maneuver all ships by yourself :)
it needs a new pc!
