As the title suggests – we’re discussing the direction of xf elsewhere, and disagreements tend to boil down to people having differing understandings of what exactly xf is, and what makes it good.
So what do you guys thing? Anything & everything, comment structure, page layout to the moderation. What be good, what be bad?

Things like that. The fact I can ask daze some random shit about the time he’s been here, whilst there’s other relevant posts below mine that’ve not been buried, as I can just hop down beneath the comment tree.
Shit like that I guess – it’s the whole package.
I agree that without the journals and spam site / ET would be dead (yup, even more dead that it is already).

Need an option for journals and that is sticky...some things are simply not a news, not even a forum thread but can be a useful sticky journal for some days...or something like that.
And nowadays, crossfire is only a community where kids tend to spam utter bullshit, while you can still read some useful and nice newsposts, some article or column from time to time but that's pretty much it. It's getting boring...and these positive things are just not enough anymore.

ofc there are also nice and cool ppl around, sadly its not even a minority.
Half the new admins are admins because they want a name for themselves, they dont even add content (they usually delete) and if they do it is rarely on the same level as some of the old newswriters. theres no network of newswriters, just a lot of ppl soloing (im not talking about ppl like swine who work for other sites)
Site lacks easy ways to add content (pics, videos, links) or markup text, site lacks easy ways to browse the content or sort it, search feature is a bitch, site lacks ways to give feedback (+ or -) its content so all the garbage stays on top.

and what the fuck do you expect me to be like, all nice? the way you treat your users you shouldnt expect anything less.
Ignoring the userbase problem; as although I’ve used that argument in the past, I’m not sure I want to sound quite so defeatist! But what positive things does the Esreality style popularity add? Since removing [-] it’s nothing more than e-penis – does that add anything to the site? Yes it’s nice that my status changed, and I always liked being seen as a celebrity, but did it change anything? Not so much. I can tell if a post is good by reading it, the popularity rating was always below that anyway - I don't need other people telling me it’s good…
Alternatives could be receiving “Thanks”.
Though the whole notion of popularity has always been so self congratulating, I hate the ethos that you deserve people’s thanks and should expect it for doing things. I add content because I want to add content; if it gets lots of hits, lots of posts & lots of discussion – great. The kind of torrent sites where uploaders get pissy if hundreds of people don’t click the “Thanks” button really get on my tits. The fact I’m downloading your torrent is proof enough that I’m grateful, be happy in the massive swarm on your torrent – why do you need more than that? Why do we need more than that?
Although I’ve suggested elsewhere we might want to consider getting with the times & copying the CPMA style wiki – though I don’t think that’s what you mean by quality (though that be so subjective!).
I disagree that the site lacks easy ways to add content – given the nature of the userbase I think it’s bordering madness to suggest that they can’t use simple bbcode, if you can – it’s way quicker than any user interface – and christ do I hate smilies, if that’s what you’re suggesting elsewhere. Links / images have never been a problem & have been avoided exactly because Crossfire is not, and never should be, some newbie infested cesspit.
The search feature was improved though I don’t know if that improvement has been lost (yes, nice fuck up), will check. I don’t think it’s any worse than elsewhere though there’s certainly room for improvement, equally in areas such as the tutorials. The “Popular” cloud located in “My Crossfire” will allow you to see the quality / popular journals, if that’s what’s being requested.
Though all this said – you’re missing the point of what’s being asked, despite all this shit, you still log in every day, and have done for years – why?

- several fragmovies
- some great tutorials

I nearly don't read it anymore, only if someone c/p me some journal. In my eyes it's a place for e-heroes to act cool, and that's it. Barely anything useful on it. Sorry.
For me personally the fact it's a gaming site is not very interesting, it's the thing that binds at all but besides that we're all very different from each other and that makes it interesting to see how people look at certain topics compared to others (old/young, europe/na, west/east).
+ lots of random journals about basically everything
+ comment structure (minimal info with nick + flag; no bullshit giant signatures or smileys; reply function; hide tags)
+ simple side structure, no unnecessary animations in flash
- search function is rubbish
- lots of small things that can be improved and partially had been improved before the crash (the jump to new posts function was nice and the drawing of journal / news / forum titles in tabs); what I would like to see is a better scaling of the page to higher resolutions
But there were less retards (or at least they wouldn't post here) before :(
I used to read a lot of journals talking about interesting subjects ... now we have food, random pics and crossie's lifes. awesome.
sure there r some retarded guys but if i read the comments of some 15 year old kids for example on readmore.de i am glad to have another site where r also nice and friendly people and useful stuff to read tbh.
this has always been the one and only site for ET players besides a few national sites and has been keeping the scene alive with the crossfire LAN events and many other cups/events
the content of this site always gets more interesting and better when something is happening in the scene, atleast I always have enjoyed all the pre-LAN/EC previews with speculation and interviews along with post-LAN journals with great stories and pictures for example. when nothing happens the quality of content goes down a lot and you'll have hard time picking up a few interesting journals now and then from the unstoppable flood of new journals. if you are lucky you might spot an interesting interview or article outside the events, but that's kinda rare. movie section is always active and you can pretty regurarly spot a movie by some known player which can get you interested enough to watch it
