Fine, but in journals only with [LANG] in title:
"Fine, but in journals only"
but it was
"Fine, but in journals only with [LANG] in title"
and imo its gay to always but [lang] in front, but thats just what i think :)
I can speak: Hebrew, English, Russian, Polish, German. (but only English and Hebrew are my windows and keyboard languages)
How can you explain that?
tHx master of fail!
tHx master of fail!
:P
Hi,I'm wsk!
edit: nice deleting...
but get rid of dutch plx!!!
ronner doesnt like germans, its my impression tbh :O
nvm
All people saying the only people voting #1 are wrong, but....
Even worse are the retards saying no english ....
When someone has a problem and he/she feels like it can't be described in english, i say it's perfectly OK to let him/her describe it with his/her native/specified language.
If another language than English is allowed then it shouldn't be possible to add a [LANG] tag after creating the journal, when people who don't understand the other language have already started reading/responding.
By the way, for all the Europeans whining about the English wanting an English only Crossfire, maybe look at your own languages and wonder why they're so hard to learn. Not everyone is lazy, you should be thankful English is so flexible and easy to learn, rather than falling on the same tired arguments: 'how many languages do you speak?' and the likes.
if someone from a country speaks to someone frome the same country in their native language, what tha fack you have to care?! just scroll down and let it happen...
i think theres a difference between someone who wants to speak his native tongue on a gaming site and a murderer o/
and if you see that something is written in a language you dont understand, why the fuck dont you just scroll away?
i got one question:
if english wouldnt be the world language, but lets say, flemish or smth, wouldnt you, as englishman, try to speak in your native tongue instead of always speaking flemish?
what about my question btw?:P
That was the poor premise (argument).
Hard to say in the circumstance, since I do honestly believe that English is technically the best language. If Flemish was the 'world language', then yes I would use it (on the internet), gladly.
It really isn't anything to do with stupidity. It's like someone telling you to ride a bike with three legs (from an English point of view). Inflection is a really big deal, and if you read the likes of (Steven) Pinker or (Noam) Chomsky, you'll find language is an instinct.
We're all born with the same linguistic engine, and all languages share common traits (generally the vocabulary is just different, get a word in German, then find what it's in Dutch, then English and you'll see what I mean).
If you learn English, you're impaired somewhat (to learn other languages), because it's such a functional and efficient language. Why are there multiple versions of the same word, regardless of how I'm actually using it (in German)? Hopefully you get what I mean :P
P.S Generally it's to do with laziness though xD
I'm actually 'relearning' German though, for all those Europeans who think the British are just lazy or stupid (or both ;D)! If you don't like speaking English 'all the time', then get off our invention ;)
Crossfire - TosspoT (English)
Internet - Sir Tim Berners Lee (English)
(Yes I know Crossfire was developed by raza, a Belgian.)
(i am french)
- English is spoken by over 1.5 billion people, and unlike Chinese, its popularity is not derived from mass population (i.e. the idea of lingua franca; you're free to check how many people speak any of the Sino-Tebitan group of languages (and how far they've moved outside of Asia [I'm being sarcastic, they haven't] to see what I mean).
- I'm not certain of your knowledge regarding language, but phonetically English is much superior to listen to. Sounds are much softer, partially due to the diphthongs (vowel sounds) and how they're pronounced. French goes further, and this is why people often enjoy how French sounds. English is a nice medium between the likes of Dutch and German, but stops short of French or Spanish for example.
- English has huge flexibility. You could name any English word, and the chances of it actually being of English origin are quite slim. English has (though I don't want to be proven wrong, I guess it's possible) the largest, most sophisticated, and most technical array of vocabulary of any language out there. Partially due to the fact, English steals words from other languages, whilst still keeping the same Germanic core (A good example where this doesn't apply, is with food. The latin or French variants are typically preferred, especially with regarding meat. Again, social and cultural issues).
- The biggest reason why English is much superior to other languages, is inflection, or lack of it (almost, I bet 'plurisation' will die out soon enough). If anyone says inflection is a good thing, then they're probably an idiot. This is the sole reason why native English speakers struggle to learn foreign languages.
Inflection introduces:
o More verb tenses
o 'Genderisation'
o More words to a sentence (redundancy isn't good)
If you want it summed up; English is the best, because it has already pillaged the best parts of your languages, whilst ignoring the worst. It sorts things by word order and particles rather than inflection. Thus unless you're literally retarded, no matter how bad your English is, people can almost certainly understand what you were wanting to say.
we just got a lot of words in common (we the ) because the latin base!!
i have to agree its quite easy to learn the basics if you want to but that doesnt make a language to the best language!!
to summ it up you wrote a lot of words and it sounded quite nice but imho it doesnt constitute why english is the best language!!!
I think that's perhaps more to do with your lack of knowledge about the semantics and grammar. Don't worry, I didn't honestly expect anyone bar FlyingDJ to understand. ;D
But to answer your other point(s), the English weren't the only Europeans to colonise, and countries like Germany and France have been of equal status in pretty much every regard (trade, influence, colonisation), so why haven't they (as a language) flourished in the same way as English?
easy language + a lot people talk it = best language ??
If you want a gaming analogy, then think of it like this; everyone understands the basics of Quake 3 since it's technically an easy game to understand, but mastering it (timing, movement - grammar, vocabulary), reveals layers and layers of complexity.
im french btw
I had a French guy come complain to me on SK that people were insulting him, I don't understand French, none of the crew does. Please find me a better solution than forcing everyone to speak a language they already know to some extent.
I don't mind if you speak horrible English, you'll likely never find me insulting or critising someone for bad English, and I'd gladly help anyone who wanted help.
1.20 - 1.30 xD <3
and uk people are allowed to use their latest insult like douchebag or other new stuff(not sure thats very new but i hear it recently and still dont get it T__T)
So its fair!
I don't really care whether or not someone talks in a different language in a journal.
