when my pron torrents have finished.
I always shut down my pc.
this made my nice day nicer, thx
my pc usually stays on for week/ks till i decide to turn it off
and it makes no sense leaving ur PC on, just sometimes I leave it on for downloads at night.
booting takes only 1 min, so I can get smth to drink etc first when I'm going to hide myself behind my PC
+ living at her house
+ idc it's useless anyway to let ur PC on the whole day while not even being at home
ps. Nice whine yesterday when we played against you, twinzz and richi or so.
And finnish guys are unhitable! atleast most of them are for me, dunno why but it's true. (you can test at my place :P)
But in the real life twinzzy is a nice guy, but online he is just a complete retard. But thats because he has his ego online because he played with some known guys, jay lets all be happy for him.
ps. I had to laugh when I killed one of u unhits and said "die unhit die" (or smth) and right at that moment I got killed :D
And I don't care about having to wait 1 min to be able to play ET. And PCs use alot of power, especialy when I leave my 2 CRTs on also :P
And no, I'm not a netset lamer so this whole thing makes pretty much no sense.
I live in their house and don't have to pay for anything (except my own stuff ofc), they pay me my food etc. So why shouldn't I listen to them if they ask me a small thing such as turning my computer oof when I'm not at home.
And when I let it on for downloads I put a timer :D "shutdown -s -t <time in seconds for download>" so my PC will shutdown when the download is completed :D
And I can understand my parents decission about having me to shutdown my computer, because I also have a brother and sister which own a computer. If we all had our PC running 24/7 the powerbill would be alot higher I think ^^
they busted me four times, and last time they where like ÿou aint going to stop so punishing you has no use" :D
and being stoned is the cure for boring movies :D
and why do people drink alcohol? I almost never drink alcohol.
But I realized my weed smoking became an addiction and trying to smoke alot less (since last month) now it stays with max 2 joints a day. While before I used to be stoned 24/7 when I had the chance.
I used to get higher grades when I learned stoned
But the weed always helped me study, when I was stoned I was just looking into my books, not actualy reading but just looking in them. But your brain notices the words on the page automaticly and you remember them.
I even had once that I could see the pages in my brain during a exam and read them xD but I was stoned during that exam ^^
don't think the the same goes for every one, because alot of people can't even think straight while they are stoned. But alot of my mates tell me they also learn better while they are stoned, so it idd does smth with the brain which is good and bad at the same time.
But also playing football is bad for your brain when the ball hits ur head :P so if I smoke weed, play football or drink alcohol it doesn't matter. Almost everybody does some things that are bad for their brain.
And I can honestly say that I wished I never started smoking it, cuz now I'm addicted and it costs alot of money. I'm smoking weed for almost 5 years now, and lets say I spend a averige of 5 euro a day on it I've already spend around 9000 euro on that shit. I could have bought almost 4 kg of weed for that amount of money. While now i've only smoked around 1,5 kg of weed.
its off @ night
on when im gone
always have the pc in my room aswell, totally used to the noise. feels oddly quiet when it's not on
Say I see something that I want to quickly search for in an advert break on TV, I can run up, search google and run back down again.
I don't like waiting 40 seconds to boot and then an extra 10 for firefox to sort itself out
I also leave chat programs running constantly so people can leave me messages whenever I'm away
for the chat issue, I have finch and irssi running in screen on a dedicated server, and on boot putty opens and connects and I can see what I've missed
I have irssi in screen for my uni irc network but no way could I have it as my main irc client
not everything is suited for cli tho :P
mirc+nnscript can show me a hell of a lot more information in one go than irssi and also I can get to and list a lot of shit easier in it
but its useless arguing, because the ease of use of a gui certainly wins. For bored teenagers like myself though, learning irssi's commands/shortcuts isn't really an issue and i get a client which i can use more efficiently than mirc \o/
btw, is there any way to watch the uptime @ windows? ;o
So, the answer is no.
15:42:45 up 53 days, 16:40
it isnt worth it, because my internet gets disconnected twice at ~3:15.
so no downloads and stuff.
normally i put it in hibernate
laptop btw
During summer you can really feel how much heat it generates, so if it's off my room is a bit cooler, too. Annoyingly hibernation mode doesn't work anymore (can't connect to the internet after booting) :L
Because i sleep in other room.
oh wait who would vote for this will vote "No", so the whole poll is pointless !
I don't really mind the noise my PC makes, I get used to it while trying to fall asleep most of the time. Sometimes it's really loud though and I tend to turn it off then.
only real time i turn it off is when my girlfriend sleeps over hehehe!
The hardware strain issue is an interesting question - I think the marginally preferred theory is that the most stressful point for the hardware is startup/shutdown, so by leaving the PC on it has a lower chance of failure.
And to those of you who say leaving a PC on overnight doesn't use much electricity, you're idiots. A decent gaming PC uses up to 300W even when idle (more like 500 when at full load). In UK terms, assuming an extra 12 hours use a day, that's a cost of over £10 a month, which, for a smallish property, is probably at least 30% of your electricity bill.
It's still a lot of energy a computer uses up though :|
In case I want to download, we have Network Attached Storage Device on our LAN network which is something similar to a server, and it has a torrent/download client. So in case I want something to be downloaded, I just go to the NAS, configure it and it downloads all night long whilst it is 50 metres away from me. easy. :)
At university I don't have to pay any utility bills and I've a much faster internet connection, so I will tend to be slightly more liberal/wasteful but I'd rather switch a computer off and on multiple times a day than keep it on all the time.
couple of years ago, it was almost never off...
I dont see any reason to let it on
Furhermore i cant sleep with the noise
IF YOU TURN THE COMPUTER OFF, IS LIKE KILL HIM!!
is...euthanasia!!!!!
nooooo!!!
