snatch3 ("new" map) *update

Seeing the current debate about new maps (e.g. for the OC 3on3) - and seeing that most ppl prefer to play maps which actually kinda suck, just because they know them and there's no decent alternative... i would like to introduce a new map, which most ppl probably don't know yet...

I will go through the objective from Allies side (without mapscript, so watch the changes too).

Right after spawn you got 2 ways to go. Through the open “road” and through some kind of upper caves. First thing you gotta do is to construct a bridge (or plant the maingate first, whatever)

Like already mentioned, you should blow the maingate then.

Now you have to get the Command Post in order to have a closer respawn. The bridge which you should have constructed by then helps you with that since there is a way though some kind of caves with an exit near the CP. The CP is close to the truck, which you will need in the end.

Now you have to get the docs, which are on the roof of some building in some radar-thingy. You gotta bring them to the truck to secure them.

If you have secured the docs, you have to escort the truck.
The truck can be damaged by Axis.

But the Axis can still construct 2 Barriers, so watch out.

I have never played or tried this map in competition so I don’t know yet if the map is equally balanced or how long it should take (15min for fullhold?). Maybe it needs some changes (too hard when the truck can be damaged? don't know)
BUT it’s a very promising and even good-looking map with various stages. This map might have a great future in my opinion. In some ways it even reminds me of a map like supply which is probably still the best map out there for competition (overplayed maybe, but suitable for competition like no other).
Give it a chance.

edit2: like some ppl already mentioned, it's not really a "new" map, that's why i took "new" in quotationmarks. the map just has never been given any attention except for one episode of lugerfrag (that radio-shoutcast-show with FlyingDJ) where the map was introduced.

Its a nice map, but the last stage is just impossible for Axis imo. Especcially because you can attack from 2 spawns as allies, the map is a bit chaotic and last stage too easy. I would suggest some adjustments (small ones, like moving the barrier2 to another spot). Otherwise then that it is nice :)
Want to see Sottevast though, love that map! <3
i rather thought it might be hard for allies with axis being able to damage the truck (spamming artillery everywhere, that's what i fear tbh). but i have never tried it, so i'm not sure.
i can imagine it's quite hard for axis to build the barriers, but if the truck is not moving cos it's damaged, it might work ;o
attacking from 2 sides? which stage do you mean? getting obj or escorting the truck / building barriers. tbh the first allies spawn is quite far away so it's probably not that easy, dunno.

Well, afaik. The first stage is rather hard for the allies indeed. Taking the docs and getting past the 1st Truck Barrier + Gate. But the difference is that, I believe the allies can also spawn on the end of the road (where the truck needs to drive to) and so can pin the axis in between them.
In the first stage this does create some chaotic events (blowing up the gate from the otherside etc.) but when the truck is past the 1st barrier + Gate, it beomes impossible to defend the 2nd barrier, cause it is too far from axis spawn and you get easily pinned in the open by allies from 2 sides. At least, thats how it was when I last played it.
Still it could be fitting for competition if you ask me.

ye, maybe it really needs minor changes like changing the place of the 2nd barrier.
if that stage is rly quite hard for axis then maybe the truck should stay damage-able like it is already (actually i would have said it should be invincible, which seems to be done with a single mapscript like meez said)... dunno...

Quite old map ....
This is good map, would like to play 6on6 on it. Not too big, not too small. It sure beats frostbite/braundorf/goldrush/bremen 100-0. Just make the truck non destructible and the map is superb.

It's a good map, played it a few times before

Although a few things could be changed, I suggest getting a few show games on this map to see what needs to be changed to make the map as good as what it probably can be.

I played this on a pub like 4 days ago just for 1 long round and didn't have a fucking clue what was going on till the last stage which although Rewolf says above that it's hard for axis, on that server me and a fop were caining them at the last stage, it was a reaaaal choke point.

added to the fact you can stick a mg42 in little places here and there is was pretty impossible for the allies ;P
should be different if the players knew the objective (and it's not very complicated actually) :p

they did know the objective in the sense they were going for the docs in the tower room thing, but they had blown the downstairs wall and me as a med with the fop next to me were creating a cross fire that went up the hill to the tree area (past the build able barricade) and through the door to under our original spawn.

if you add in someone who can actually aim unlike me then it's a bitch for the allies to get past

if the allies can aim though it should be doable, shouldn't it? i guess the allies didn't really know how to aim either and on a noob-public one single good player can make a huge difference.

Well, I meant last stage as in, they have the docs and try to drive the truck to the end. Afaik the last truck barrier is near impossible to defend decently.

if you really want to use that map as an official one you'll have to find someone bug-/hotfixing that map. There are still too many places you can plant mines(if i remember right you are able to mine the cp-area completely), the pass throughs for attacking team is in quite some areas too small(sometimes you could actually block a whole team with a single person infront) and there has to be min. one more way to attack the obj.

PS: As mentioned above, add some obstacles to the 2nd barrier

PPS: Maybe widening the area in addition toanother way to attack might balance it, as far as i remember the base was about twice the south radar on tc_base?
it's a nice map, i always wondered what it would be like in competition, cause it seems to have all the characteristics and lacks the funmod rubbish (unlike warbell :D).

could be a bit long though, and that choke point could be an issue also.

i guess one can only find out by trying, as pub experiences with it probably don't say much about how it would perform in competition (3on3 not 13on12, everyone knows objective, tacs not random fragging etc.).

if you can damage the truck with nades etc + you can fix 2 barriers then it seems easy to defend but thats just a guess =)

It isn't new, but its to shit to introduce to the Enemy Territory community.

The map is way to unbalenced, since the guys who need to construct the bridge got 2 options.
  • Construct the bridge, and get spammed by nades/arty's
  • Go from the road-way, and get fucked by the mg at the gate


Don't get me wrong, but teams who got 2 pretty good fops, are the best on this map. Since you only need timing with your arty's in this map ( talking about the first stage )

The second stage where you need to blow up the gate isn't good either. As soon you will plant you get raped because the only way they will come is from the back, as nobody is that stupid to go from the doors.

The last part is the most balanced part, but the way to the truck is way to long, if you don't make it into the caves you're dead. Also the barrier should be removed second part.

Its a nice map to play on public or w/e but not for competitions or you need some major changes in the map.
then it should be a decent 3on3 map though since these aspects like mobile mg don't count for 3on3. and if it was played in oc 3on3 ppl would know the map and might automatically try it out in 6on6 too and we would see if it works or not.

Snatch has nice idea in it but its too much of a axis map. Its very easy to fullhold. I reckon it needs an improvement especially into bridge construct part.

that was also my fear, there might be a lot of camping on the roof with too much cover in 2nd stage. not sure about the rest.

i think its pretty nice...its 'supply-style'....and if the trck isnt damagable it could be competitive
