Doubting about cfg
I am a fifteen year old ET-player who mostly plays on the silent mods but i sometimes play some low-/+ scrims.
Now i recently changed my fov from 110 to 90, now as i always doubt my cfg after having a bad day, i am doubting if im using the 'best' cfg again.. Cause then i read on forums, "Omg, using his cfg made me do much better' then i decide to download some good players their cfg, but everything is so different from my cfg. But as they all are good, it must be that theirs are better..and i know i should stop starting to ask questiond after having a bad day, but i only wanna do that if i know if im using the 'best' cfg.. Nowmy question is: should i just start playing with that 110 fov again, or play with 90, or just play with a fov and NEVER change it again? Cause i really wanna improve in this game, but i wanna be sure to be playing with the right settings, so i wont start doubting againin the future by just reading: using his cfg made me med+ instantly!
Plzbe so kind to help me! Cause its so frustrating atm,im even doubting using a white or cyan crosshair :/

For fov select somethin that will fit u in close combat and long shooting, that u wont go blind monk from not seeing anything, and still being able to do well in close combat, as well as sensitivity, select carefully which one u want and stick with it, too many changes to settings will result in never improving in this game.
Adjust that one manually
/writeconfig fluxis
made me go insta med+
If you don't feel like going through each command individually or don't feel a need to I suggest just to ask/download configs from other players/friends. Find something that your eyes like, think brightness and color vibrancy. You can play around with things like fov, sens, mpitch etcetera to find something that suits you best. Best way to figure those out is to just put those settings on something random and see if you like it. At some game you will realize "oh I kinda like this fov, but the sens is just too high" so you keep the fov and change the sens abit.
Keep playing around with settings, change is almost never a bad thing. Your config is also an easy blame target since its so easy to think "if I change this I will be better". A bad game can have a thousand cause like maybe your mousepad was abit dirty so your sensitivity felt weird. Maybe your chair was in another position so you arms felt strained. Maybe you had a bad nightrest the night before so you were not in top shape that match. Don't assume it's your config instantly :P
Hope anything in this wall of text helps, if you want to try it you can find my config here. I use quite a high sensitivity(about 5 cm for a 360 turn with my settings and mouse) so I do suggest lowering that a bit because you will probably just fly all over the place with it. Goodluck and feel free to ask more (this community can be quite a dick but there are nice guys around hiding in the dark corners hiding from the assholes :D).
also take a look on this, might help u:

Play a lot to get better and dont waste your thinking on something thats not (very) relevant.
Focus on actual game decisions!
Try to find out how you aim the best. Sure you should try out different sensitivities. But for example if you know you aim poorly with medium to high, then maybe you want to try like three different low sensitivities for a while! Dont just randomly adjust it all the time. Give each of those three sensitivities like a week or two. And dont test it in publics, where people dont even strafe when they duel and so on.
Basicly stop thinking that everything is related to your settings, because its so far from the truth, atleast in my opinion.
must've been nazty's
But the two periods I played at my best and consequently the most active, were when I decided to stick with a certain setting and just try and get used to it. Undead didn't even want to play with me because he tought I was cheating. The person who is the most comfortable with his settings, has a slight edge over the other one usually, not the one who has the "best" config or settings.
That being said, some settings ARE better in certain situations and you might want to consider that when picking your settings. For example :
1. Low sensitivity is more difficult to play with when things get hectic but a lot better for precision shooting or perfect tracking.
2. Low FOV is easier for long range, but harder for tracking up close when being shot at (because of the knockback).
3. Low m_pitch is easier to keep your crosshair on head height when being shot at, but can be harder to adjust your aim in mid duel or fights on uneven ground (depending on the sensitivity)
3. Resolution : I'd advise you to stay between r_mode 4 to r_mode 8. I know some great players play with a higher resolution, but I feel like tracking is less fluid with a higher resolution in ET. Also, go with the highest displayrefresh you can get.
EDIT : Ow, if you care, the settings that almost satisfied my quest for the perfect aim were : 1.0 sensivity with 900 DPI, m_pitch 0.022, r_mode 6, fov 90 (or sometimes 100). Aim was my one obsession in this game.
Hi!
But even if you doubted me from time to time, you always stood up for me if they tried to kick me from a public server! Now that's a true friend! :D
You still playing a little or stopped for good now?
UK dead, few of us still idling in the channel but that's about it. I still see English playing ET some times but that's about it left from there I think. Or Gnome.
ps. I'm still shit at this game.
Have a good day sir :)
find the best resolution/r_mode and sens that fits you. good luck !
select a sensi which you can turn 180 comfortably,
make sure your graphics settings are good for visibility,
Anyway configs are highly overrated. Its like a shoe for a tennis player. A pair of shoe will never make you a good tennis player, but its important for u to feel comfortable in it, also you dont slip in a good shoe etc.
You need a good config that will give you the basics to be able to improve, but a config will never make you a better player. Just make sure its not holding you back (for example if u have a small monitor you shouldnt play with 110 fov, because u cant see shit in the distance).
get a sens ur comfortable with, get some visual config you seem comfortable enough with and KEEP THEM.
most important step is to just KEEPING THOSE SETTINGS.
configs don't make you better. practising does.
Wow, says exactly nothing. But dont worry, everyone repeats this shit
Its like: to kill enemy u need to aim on head, to win a match u have to make obj faster than enemy, im fcking prophet
Higher fov makes u feel enemy's and mouse moves are slower and smoother, gives u better control aroud. But 2high fov makes invisible little mistakes of mouse moves. Lower fov is harder at the beggining, u need to learn aim by heart firstly but later when u learn it its easier to fix little tracking mistakes. High sensitivity in game is easier to control, gives u better tracking but sensitivity decides about highest possible skill to achieve, for example if u'll get sensitivty 50 and 50 dpi, controlling every point is simple, but hitting hs on long distance is random or impossible. Lower sensitivity is harder to control but edge of mistake is bigger, for example 3x lower sens in game gives u 3x more points on enemy's hitbox, also lower sens gives u better feeling of mouse position. 2low sensitivity in game gives u negative accel -> fast mouse moves are reported as slower than they were ( comes from quake engine, depends on resolution and fps, higher values gives u higher max speed without neg accel, sometimes comes from mouse sensor if its old or bad). Dpi changes balance between control and tracking, lower dpi - harder tracking, easier control, higher dpi easier tracking, harder control. 2 high dpi will prevent u tracking on distance, 2low dpi will make ur aim shaky (ofc as effect of practice, at the beginning its inverted), u'll lose control and tracking on close distance. I can recommend u highest dpi u can control.
See dyna get planted through wall. :aweyeah:

@crook i did /r_mode 8 and i got like a shadow on my gun and on the walls when i walk, as they are like dark spots on the map, its so annoying to play with! U know how i can higher my resolution without having 'such black spots' ?
