Attributes of the map:
- As mapper, you should know something about timing, what it is and what you should do to get it equal.
It is important to have fast attacks and you should base your mapping idea on common and loved maps.
Examples:
The docrun map dubrovnik is a very good competiton map, but it is a problem there, if you secured the key, the door to the other doc room is open to fast and you have very low fps on manny positions there.
The good thing on this map is the nice movement on the roofs and on windows, the short and fast attacks.
La Rochelle, known from last Fart Fall Cup, is another very good map where u have to destroy 2 ships and at first, you have to push and defend a button at start, which was a very nice and new concept in my opinion. The problem there is, that you have to defend this button too long.
- FPS ftw!
Sure, a mapper wants to show all of his skills in create a nice graphic around the played games, but gamers are not intrested in it. Sure, you need a nice texture and some movement points you can use for jumps, but look out, don't make to manny buldings which use much fps, use function of the radiant to get the best fps possible.
- Negative examples
Our main aim is a 6on6 competition map, which you can play in 3on3 matches, too.
You have to watch out for mortar, arty and spam.
# Ways to attack shouldn't be as big as on fueldump
# objectives should be defended by skill and not by mortar (oasis guns)
# radar need much fps, but its a loved map
# at battery, you can defend every attack with a mortar and a field op, but its still a nice map for tactic gamers
a mix of battery, dubrovnik, la rochelle is a first idea, i'd like to give you for this map.
Important notice:
It musn't be a total new map, cause we know that it needs a very long time to build up a map, so we allow mappers to edit their old projects, to optimize them and to get the achivements they should get for it, now.
You can also edit a map of another creater, but only with his total agreement and only, if he gets called in the map informations.
For new mappers, this contest isn't the right thing to start with, may we achive some good response to build up another contest in the next years or maybe seasons for other games like et:qw or rtcw, maybe et again. But if you ever want to build a map, start now :)
