Group B
Finland vs Estonia
Date and Time: Tuesday 15th July 2008, 9:00pm
That’s right! Our “Game of the Week” for this week has to come from Group B and it’s Finland vs Estonia. Both with credible NC pasts, these two teams atone time or another have been considered the crème de la crème of NC outfits.
Finland however, has the better track record in more recent times.
With a WorldCUP medal and a hugely consistent core of players even in the summer months, these Finns have the upper hand going into this game and with players like Squall, lettu and the chance of an appearance from jauhis, the undoubtedly high quality associated with the Finnish team is there once again.
Estonia in contrast, has had a more torrid time of things recently. With many of the previous Estonian legends of past NC squads having left the game, the potency once taken for granted with the Estonian name is no longer present. It’s been a long time since NationsCup VIII and with somewhat questionable performances from the usually impeccably high standard nation; they really do need to restore some national pride.
Thankfully for the Estonians however, we do see the return of Night and r3vers to the side. Both members of that NationsCup VIII winning squad, they will really need to perform at the top of their game to beat the Finns and will equally require the same from the likes of the well oiled teammates such as EmeRica and LudA.
As for the game itself, well, without the usual outstanding quality throughout the Estonian side, it’s going to be a really difficult encounter for them. The Finnish team has so much experience together to go along with the talent they do have throughout, so they should take this one comfortably over the two maps.
Hopefully I’m wrong however and with the help of Night the Estonians could pull things together causing an upset, pushing the game too a decider map or even taking the entire tie itself.
As this game if is the “Game of the Week”, I decided it would be prudent to have a few words with both teams’ captains. Firstly, I caught up with EmeRica to ask him about his sides chances in the upcoming match.
EmeRica - I hope it will go great. I know they have many great oldschool players, who can easily decide the outcome of any match. Squall,l ettu, twidi, lepari are all great players who can really cause us a lot of problems, so we will have to do our best to contain them. I’m really looking forward to the match, I hope it will be a great one.
I then caught up with Squall, to get an indication of his feelings about the match.
Squall - Well I think this game will be quite even, we haven’t pracced that much and I bet Night has been praccing his ass off like always, but I think it will be 4-2 to us.
For a more neutral perspective on the matters at hand, who better to speak to than our very own TosspoT when it comes to epic NationsCup encounters.
TosspoT - I think the Finns should take it, their lineup looks too strong on paper and they probably have a bit more cohesion than the Estonian lineup. Will be good to see Night and r3vers back in action, however to me the rest of that lineup lacks the punch that the Finnish team has.
Well, there you have it. The makings of perhaps a great group stage encounter, I hope you all manage to jump on ETTV and catch a glimpse of the game and hopefully, if TosspoT gets home in time, we will be able to give us a shout cast as well.
I hope you enjoy the game!
