Scroll down your Crossfire front page and you’ll see match coverage, LAN & Tournament announcements and new custom maps. It’s hard to think that its 2012 and ET is still going strong. Scratch beneath the surface and you will find problems but for once I want to write a short column about things going right!
I have long raged at people for not getting involved but rarely has anyone paused to praise people when they’re doing it right. At the moment a crack commando unit of writers and admins lurking in a .tournaments IRC channel are working tirelessly for your entertainment. To the outside world the game seems as alive as ever, an Anti Cheat with upcoming upgrades, A LAN on the horizon in the summer and a soon to be announced sequel to Battle for Berlin with sponsored prizes.
I must say what impresses me most is the Draft tournament initiative. This is a completely new way of playing the game that overcomes activity hurdles and has driven a completely new lease of life into many of the top players who are not only showing up to play, but proud of their performances and victories.
It may have taken many years but actually the leagues are cooperating with one another! Scheduling around each other as best they can, contributing coverage to one another’s cups and trying to tag cheaters for all’s benefit.
So come all and rejoice as yet another syringe is plunged into your games community, but don’t rest on your laurels as inactivity is a contagious disease! Get involved and contribute to keep away the fleas.

was alo quite pleased when I heard about that! never understood why they argued and fought for so long :P
Cant understand how regular dota palyers can stream with 1080p and the best we can do is just some shitty stream. And for ETTV, the shoutcast is just too much trouble. It keeps reseting and it's pain in the ass to sync it again.
If that's so I'm offering you my 100/10 for full use if you want to give it a try.
I don't expect anything in return but would love to help out ET :)
+ I have no clue why somebody would watch a stream when they have the possibility to see it in the best quality possible ( .exe ).
edit. Plus I didnt have ET installed and needed to install it again for only that.
And why wouldnt I want to watch stream. With 1080p it's the same or even better than with ETTV + It's so fucking easy just to open own3d link. And you can do other stuff like chatting etc, while streaming.
How should I know you haven't got ET installed
ETTV Chat ( altho I can see why you wouldn't want that )
Guess it's just opinions
Don't misunderstand me, I do get the point of using the stream as a tool to attract other players ( and ofc for ET players to watch, when in 720/1080p )!
I even talked with R0SS about it. Told him that we should make a squad of streamers and shoutcasters so we can provide awesome coverage for ET ;)
We are doing it on our free time, for ppl who don´t have installed ET and want to know smth about communiy & co...
But if tournament managers and their news writers don´t pay attention to us (like some link to our stream in news, etc.), we will not get many viewers (and we don´t like spamming like fumble & Artstar did).
No many viewers -> going to be dead (no reason to stream, if nobody will watch it)
Many ppl are going to cf site, they will see a upcoming tournament and all shit about gtv, they will say: "Don´t have ET, will not pay attention to this"...
All what we want, is when you will make a newspot (coverage) for the cup, just say something simple about stream... We can talk between us and schedule what will be streamed, etc... (we will get more streamers and moderators in a while). And managers behaviour like Robert did last time is unacceptable, that he said "gtfo, fuck off, etc about us" so this is what I´m talking about. YOU DON´T GIVE A SHIT!
There was nothing about streams & shoutcasting here. You're the first one that met both requirements, and you only have a few days experience. Arguing about something that you just started to do is ... odd...
And many people queried me for stream setting, I will help them if they will ask.
I would say I'm fairly good with it just my upload rate is a pain in the ass so I can't stream in HD (don't see the whole point of it but yeah)
It's just upsetting that there isn't such a competitive scene alive anymore. EC means nothing, the EC final before LAN wasn't even settled correctly, and just drowned out. ESL Masters is a joke, and LANs may struggle - that remains to be seen.
The only form of competitive gaming has been these two draft cups (excluding bfb). These cups are great for the community, and spark a high level of interest. That does not however remove the fact that they are still just mix cups, and I hope to see the re-birth of a truly competitive rosters over the next few months.
+ EMS was never a joke, it was always a well run tournament! too bad they had to drop ET but with FoaMeA's help we might be seeing it back soon :) let's just hope for an enjoyable season in Spring.
ESL take a hell of a long time to pay out too if i recall correctly, which is very very sad as it makes it lose all credibility to me at least.
Apart from that, I hope this LAN draws in old faces under new MGCs, but we shall see!
look at my comment and look at yours. I was referring to years of this happening and you're pointing at one season :D who cares if half of the players compete in another mix, it always happened that way. the problem is the LAN teams don't play most online competitions.
CB is and will always be a site run by volunteers, which now may suit ET since it's not THAT BIG anymore since new games like Starcraft LoL & CoD dominate esports.
Not so
then I'll have to rename to "Okay" :(
Agreed
also there wasn't much coverage outside of CF/GTV this time, whereas last time we put coverage in quite a few forums etc :]
for the next cup I'm gonna be posting coverage on all the sites that have the most activity, Crossfire, gamestv, splatterladder, trackbase (if possible), splashdamage etcetc. hopefully Gamestv can impliment stream viewers into the GTV viewerpeak because this time around 60-70 or more were tuned into the stream but those viewerlogs are all lost to nothingness now =]
so overall per decent match it's around 250 including streamviews I guess, not so bad due to the fact that I wasn't spamming the channels and random forums or even journal section so much this time :3 something to learn for every next tournament of course.
dno how to force them to prepare a bit+what fanatic said
Obviously it gives a great advantage to speak the natural language, there's no doubt about that, but it's a draft cup and drafting itself is a skill whether its picking the right players or preventing other teams of getting their dream team.
That being said, one could introduce 3 player per country limit or maybe even consider limiting signups per country but as this cups go along one would think people will pick up on how to draft efficiently.
Anyway from our lineup I'd say that especially Jewe gives excellent comms and so does Salaneuvos and they both have played in European teams before and do speak good English. Also they haven't played in any EU top teams so I'd think that only a few non-Finnish top players have had the chance to play with them (besides one or two mix games perhaps).
Last thing I want to add is the 'real' draft tournament. R0SS talked about it, a tournament with not only the 'skilled' players, but also the low/meds of ET. I think many players agree that the 'skilled' players seem to be 'unreachable'. If we can give other players a chance to play with them, they will be more active in ET, at least that is what I think. Really looking forward to this cup!
P.S. NBS-Gaming is always happy to support cups etc for ET! So contact us if you want to know whats possible ;)
But yeh, good good for ET.
ET is in the worst state it's been in for ages and it's getting worse and worse. Draft tournament was a good idea but matches got around 150 viewers, despite news posts everywhere and loads of people spamming every match on mIRC. And all those people saw was a bunch of ramboes running around trying to be the best and not caring about the team win. Opencup matches in the past used to get more viewers. LAN might be announced but there's not even double figures in terms of the teams interested.
Quit acting like you know stuff and just go back to your eSports crap. ET is on it's last legs whether people like it or not.
too little too late sadly.
I bought/downloaded all new shooters and they are just like some blockbuster popcorn movie which you forget about very fast. Like BF3 which is a lot of fun for a (very long) while on public. The skill ceiling is just very low which makes it boring competitive wise.
Can't tell how entertaining it is for the people to spectate nowadays. I always was the kind of spectator who didn't care for the overall match (e.g. like floating around without POV) but only about certain individuals. Always enjoyed watching the rambo medic (e.g. mystic back then) without ever switching POVs :D
The thing that kept ET interesting to me, just as a spectator has gone. I used to love getting back from school and checking GTV to see what was on and if any of my favourite players were playing that evening but these days it just feels stale. I see the same 20 players mixed and matched in just different lineups again and again.
FPS games in general these days are just dull to watch, there is nothing new worth shouting about in a competitive way, CS:GO is about the only thing that could do well soon and actually be a good game while having a chance to promote esports at a social media level.
I wish ET came out now as a brand new game when eSports has almost enough meat on it to put ET in the limelight that it deserved as a competitive multi-player. Ah well back to CoD4 ;___;
and i used to love watching mystic :c
im still around. just on crossfire tho :P
actually yes it was amusing with you but i did mean mztik :(
miss you maxi :(
I think there are a lot of reasons why the ET-Players are getting more less.
The kids today want everything to show as real as possible. Daddy pays for the needed PC and than they play rambo hide & seek.
But what they do not understand is that a game with a better team balanced multiplayer (like ET does) can bring them a lot more fun than every more than perfect reality grafic can give them.
Another point is that you have to know some guys who play ET for some time, so they can show you how to play.
It is not only the class categories, the map opjectives, (the servers since they are not shown any more in the ET/Online menu).
ET is a game that can give you fun in some kind of ways.
One way I think everybody, or nearly everybody started with is the Public XP Save Serverhopping. You get fun by getting one level up in some class category, by getting akimbos, by getting a Award at the end of the Fraggingtour. Then you are fullskilled and only getting fun by getting "highest Fragger", "most headshots" or "highes accuracy"
And then after years of doing such stupid things like flameing about fullskilled and laggers because off other maxpackets you find/found someone who showed you etpro.
Once you had no 60bullets as medic, only 1 nade and so on ...
But now you had some guys you had to trust and you had to play together. And soon you recogniced that there is more fun by a lucky nade, a good armed dynamite and that your skill is not only your aim...
What I want to say is, that I think etpro is the most worth mod on ET and it is on the comunity to show new players how to play etpro, to make a bit more public work and that is a way we can go I think.
If the grafic junkeys do not want to play ET you can not force them ;D
And if they could see how ET looks like after setting picmic 3 and so on x)
Lg Lucky
