Dignitas go into this event, like nearly all events as a team you'd expect to be in the grand finals and once again they are. The side have experienced a rollercoaster of results in recent months and clearly havent found the right blend just yet.
The side last placed first on an international LAN at CPC1 in September, and since then despite a few tweaking's of the roster they've failed to make the grade with the results, most recently bowing out of CPC2 in the quarter Finals. However, they've always faired well against UK opposition. The side have won 3 consecutive iseries events in Newbury and have rarely sweated on any of the results, only Reason Gaming at i30 were able to give them a run for their money.
The side have recently removed former WHOCrew and Check6 veteran, mint, and replaced him with Black from Reason putting them in an excellent position in the UK. The hit the ground running with the latest roster change and have charged into the final of C2e aswell as qualifying from their group in Eurocup. This Final should prove to be a big test of how Mick and co are to their former highs!
I caught up with their latest addition, Black for a chat about the final:
Having join dignitas, you came to win things, is this to be the first? How is the team performing at the moment?
Well to start with we had a shakey game against esuba in the eurocup which to be honest was expected as it was our first game, but after that weve pulled ourselves together winning the remainder of the games and at the moment we are working on some new tactics for WSVG. so ye i think we should be able to win this.
For you this is your first dabble with one of the biggest names in eSports, how is the experience?
My experience so far has been really good, ive been blending in with the team pretty well i think, and the dignitas team as a whole is really fun as we spend a lot of time in the main lobby talking general crap on ventrilo :)
You played against eSource at i30 for Reason, what did you see in your opponents that could cause you problems on Sunday
eSource is a respectable team and are very underestimated by the community with players such as razer who has really good aim so i think we will have to watch out for individual skill and jus lock areas down.
Which of the big names in Dignitas should eSource be most afraid of?
The big name to watch out for will be raz using his shotgun again which recently has proved hes just as good if not better than he was in the past. Although i really think it depends on the map who will be a threat as all members of the team are capable of some really nice shots.
You'll be playing the final, 5 vs 4 will you change anything to make the man advantage count?
no, not really i think we will just stick to what we have been practicing recently and not try to push up and do stupid things.
For Team eSource theres little for them to lose. The weight of expectation is firmly on Dignitas shoulders, eSource will be pulling a 'chelsea' like lineup in the grand final missing one big name player and others playing with an injury (exams), and there is the gaping hole in their roster meaning they'll only be playing with four! However they've made it a long way in the tournament and underestimating them would be foolish.
They'll play on Sunday without former Q3 TDM Eurocup Champion and Call of Duty 1 veteran, Anarchy. This former Ironfist star has under guided his young team through difficult times and without wishing to overstate his prescence, he is a massive loss. However its a team game and that team has pulled team esource into the finals without Anarchy already, players like wolv know exactly where the trigger is and should be able cause Dignitas some problems.
I caught up with twrs for the lowdown on their preparations:
Hows everything going before the final?
Well, at the moment things are o.k. We're having problems with activity, our star sniper Anarchy is away in America visiting his fiancé, also Turpy and razor are doing exams along with my being very busy. Apart from inactivity we seem to be coping!
For eSource this is probably your biggest fixture to date, do you feel any pressure?
Ofcourse, any team thats in a competition with money at steak feels the pressure to perform and prove you are a team to compete with the best. Personally I think we're just going to enjoy ourselves and hope for the best! End of the day, best team wins!
How do you approach playing a team of dignitas' reputation
Well, really we play as normal, the only thing that splits dignitas from any other team is their experience and teamwork. We dont change our tacs to beat dignitas, we just concerntrate and get them picks that are going to win us the rounds
When I've seen eSource, Anarachy has always been a big hitter, how much does his loss hurt you?
Well its massive. He is the reason we are under-performing as of recent. While hes been gone we've played awful in our opencup and alot of cb ladder matches.. the sooner we get him back the better!
Who should Dignitas fear the most in eSource?
wolv. Hes just got unbeatable mp44 aim and with the team performing well around him hes going to unstoppable. Alongside wolv, I'd say allan, hes the one calling the strats, hes gunna make the team make the right moves.
Probable Lineups:
Dignitas: Mick, Trainee, razz, ben, Black
eSource: Allan, wolv, turpy and raf
It should be a cracker of a final, eSource will have to dig deep to find a win playing a man down, but anything is possible and its happened before in this cup!
