Having lived in Swansea for 3 years i can say there a 3 brothels within walking distance.

Nightlife in Swansea is very good too, although i'm unsure whether the students will be around in September.

Also that place from what i know is quite small, but it seems it has an upstairs too.

Looks a fun lan anyway, n1 merl.

the aim is to give as much as possible to prize fund so as we get nearer to the LAN the prize fund might increase but its £1500 min for 12 teams

by the way we've costed in some money for 5 admins (mainly for petrol) and you get a trophy if you win (Merl wanted a trophy :p)

well.. prize pool isn't as big as it has been for crossfire LANs, but travelling costs from Finland atleast don't seem to be any higher than what they're for LANs at Enschede. for people from NL/BE/DE it of course is more expensive and driving distances are longer so it's understandable if not as many people from those countries would be interested

rough estimations (including return):

FIN -> Amsterdam -> Enschede 240-290 euros (flights 200-250e, train around 40e)
FIN -> Bremen -> Enschede 140-200 euros (flights 60-100e, train 80-100e)

FIN -> Riga -> Bristol -> Swansea 160 euros + trains (no idea how expensive trains are in UK)

would be interesting to participate a LAN in some other place than NL (Rotterdam/Enschede), but not sure if I'll have enough money for it on september :(

You could also fly to Cardiff. The drive/train might be a little longer but its another chance to find a cheap flight.

Trains won't be much perhaps £30 from Bristol to Swansea maybe less.

yeah I didn't really go properly through all the options, just wanted to have a quick glance at what the prices would be. will of course do a lot more research if I decide to go at some point

but combining Ryanair and airBaltic it would be possible to do the flights for around 160 euros which already is a pretty good price in my opinion

I know hosting lans isnt free but only UK teams will sign up for this with that amount of signup cost / prize money ratio. And thats even without considering the travel costs...

Im just bothering to reply since its in ur planning phase, u can still adjust it so my comment might be actually useful.

its just a minimum amount, we would hope for £2000 but if we put this and had to go back to £1500 the whine would be unimaginable

Also we could just raise the entrance fee for more prize money, +50 for each team and it will be a definite £2250 ish - but we preferred lower entry fee for the first attempt. :)

its basicly just the ratio, atm 50% of ur money is prize money and tbh taking 50% from the signup money is a lot, especially if that makes it some 1.5k pot. Try look into 350£ and a 3k prizepot for 16 teams, that should make things interesting :)

I'm aware of that, not exactly a high amount. Lets say 1k will go to winner that means 200€ per player, should be about just enough to cover their food and hotel expenses and not even enough to cover the travel.

Which is why this is interesting for UK players, since without the travel they might actually win something, European players will only lose money even if they win the event.

Of course I'm sure some will say "its not about the money" but I personally dont feel that way, and this is afterall my personal opinion :)

tbh its hard to organise a UK ET event that can cater for the EU competitive scene in terms of prize money etc. Fortunately i should be able to get Anexis there but even if i couldnt its great for the game and the UK community. I am still planning on hosting a big lan in London some time later in the year. This lan might not suite Dignitas, but then having 2 Estonians would always be costly :-)

Swansea is not far from anywhere central UK - I've driven there from Yorkshire in ~3 hours, so you could realistically fly to Birmingham (central UK), Cardiff (very close., just up the M4), London (a little farther) or any of the northern airports - Liverpool / Manchester / Leeds are all realistic - no further than Schipol to Enschede.

+ Bristol (2nd closest after Cardiff)

cheap flights from Ryanair and according to Google Maps it's 1,5 hours drive away from Swansea

was just doing some more research with Demz0r and found out that best option would prolly be to fly from Tampere (FIN) to London and take a train from there

flights (Tampere-London-Tampere) would be only 76 euros and trains (London-Cardiff-London) 74 euros
