Wonderbase raises prize purse

image: wbsscu8

Johnny "toker" Törnvall and the people from Wonderbase has been working hard to lay some real pressure on the sponsors and now they have got results. The prize purse for this event has been raised by a considerable amount. And as this happen they also release some CoD2 event only tickets.

The prize purse has been raised to 59 000 SEK (€6 247.35) and the distribution follows:
1st 35 000 SEK (€3 706.06)
2nd 15 000 SEK (€1 588.31)
3rd 5000 SEK (€529.44)
4th 2000 SEK (€211.77)
5th 1000 SEK (€105.89)
6th 1000 SEK (€105.89)
+ Jumbo price

This is not bad for a fresh event considering that the Euro Cup had ~70 000 SEK. This is something that should blow fresh air to all the Call of Duty 2 participiants around the world.

Check out the tournament website for this event at: http://www.callofduty.se/wonderbase/

CoD2 Event tickets
As told there has also been introduced a new ticket type for this event. The ticket will give you access to CoD2 Event Competition Computers. It meens you do not need to bring your own computer in order to participiate in this event. However it also implies that you do not get a space for your computer if you wish to bring it with you, dispite that you actually do not need to.
At the current time there are 34 computers available for the tournament, but they are working on 20 more computers.
More information about these tickets can be found here: http://tickets.wonderbase.se/cod2/

Activision partners up with Callofduty.se

It appears like Activision has finally opened their eyes to the issues of Call of Duty 2 (PC). Little under a month we got to know that callofduty.se representant Johnny toker Törnvall were to meet Activision Nordic early in August. This has now happened and the pressrelease from Callofduty.se follows:

The first meeting between Callofduty.se and Activision has been done. Read more to see what is going to happen, better times lie ahead..

Activision Nordic meets callofduty.se Community

image: toker_atvi1

In the first week of August is Johnny 'toker' Törnvall from Callofduty.se going to a meeting with Activision Nordic. On this meeting there will be discussions about the future of COD2.

Because of this toker wants the community to present him with questions he in turn should present this Activison representant.

Regarding CoD2TV specific questions:*updated
The CoD2TV question about could it be made has allready been stated from toker and his co-workers.
What Activision would like to know about this matter is how it should function. What functions do you want from CoD2TV? Try to be accurate on your describings when it comes to this field so that toker can have an array of specifications allready in august.

In order for him to do this in an orderd fashion, he asks the team to have 1 (one) representative to send him 1 (one) . Again toker hopes that not every clan member will send him an email each, however if you are not a member of any clan you are offcorse also welcome to send him questions regarding CoD2

Sadly there will be no official forum for this norr an IRC channel where you can discuss questions.
E-mail: toker [a] callofduty.se
Please respect his wishes and don't spam him on IRC etc.

Hopefully Toker with the backing of Callofduty.se and the CoD2 community can make this a first step towards cooperation between Activision/InfintyWard and the community.

Call of Duty 2 An eSport opportunity of a life time?

Recently there has been hot activity in the World Series of Video Games (WSVG) forums after zephiwho posted a request to the WSVG staff to consider giving Call Of Duty 2 an oppertunity to prove it self worthy. By giving CoD2 the same oppertunity such as Day Of Defeat and Counter-strike Source has allready had, even with a smaller user base than what CoD2 now has, you could possibly see CoD2 as an official tournament hosted by WSVG in the near future.

CoD2 has a very impressive lan scene and the demand is even greater than the supply. For the Outpost Lan, a non-byoc event in Belgium with a prize pot of €2,750, the 24 spots sold out in 54 minutes and the organisers claim they could have got over 60 teams if they had the space. Another example is the Netgamez Lan where CoD2 had a small byoc event with only €600 for the winners but despite this, 42 teams showed up. It would be a smart move for WSVG to exploit this untapped source and with a large number of European CoD2 teams with serious financial backing you could expect large numbers at an event anywhere in the world.

Info on WSVGimage: wsvg
The World Series of Video Games (WSVG) is the first video game competition circuit on multiple gaming platforms that culminates in final rounds at which true world champions emerge. The WSVG spans eight separate 3-5 day events that will be open to the public and will encompass 150,000 square feet of tournaments, exhibitions, concerts and other attractions, to appeal to a broad audience that includes hardcore and casual gamers. To create the ultimate circuit of competitive events, the WSVG has established partnerships with major competition leagues including CPL, Lanwar and Dreamhack, bringing together PC and Xbox game communities for the first time. The WSVG is working with these leagues to develop a set of unified rules and regulations, and to elevate competitive gaming as a sport and a profession. Sponsors currently include Intel and Xbox, with more to be announced soon.

The WSVG was founded by Games Media Properties, the leader worldwide in the organization of video game competitions, tournaments and festivals. The company operates the world’s largest touring video game festival, GameRiot, which is now in its fourth season and has been held in over 70 cities, attracting over 350,000 attendees per year. Matt Ringel is the President and CEO and Scott Valencia is the Executive Vice President of Games Media Properties. Ringel is one of the top packagers of games-based content for corporate sponsorship and television, and has extensive relationships and experience in the video game industry. Valencia has been involved with nearly every major competitive gaming event over the last nine years on an international level.

How can you support this action?
CS 1.6 is the current B I G Team FPS game on the marked, but could CoD2 MAYBE become a strong contender?

If your answer is yes, then you should really grip this oppertunity to help CoD2 in to the big eSport scenes!
Please head to the official WSVG forum and post why you think CoD2 should have a chance in WSVG:
